How to Make Website Thumbnails for a Podcast Guest Link Page

There is no universal size for a podcast guest link page thumbnail. Choose an approved image, design for responsive crops, and keep website cards distinct from platform artwork.

Make each appearance card recognizable, readable on mobile and easy to open: use a guest-approved portrait or episode image, keep important details away from the edges, and link the image and its text to the episode. There is no universal thumbnail size for a podcast guest link page. The right dimensions depend on the site or card component displaying it.

Start by deciding what the card should do

A guest link page collects appearances in one place. Each thumbnail should help visitors identify an episode and reach it without suggesting that the image is the episode itself.

  • Link to the episode: Use a static image card when the goal is to send visitors to the episode page or listening platform.
  • Embed a player: Use an interactive player when you want visitors to listen on the page. Spotify says its embeds are interactive and can be adjusted for width and height. See Spotify’s embed guidance.

For a Spotify preview, the oEmbed response can include a title, embed HTML, and—when available—an image URL and dimensions. The image is not guaranteed by the documented response. See Spotify’s oEmbed documentation.

Choose an image and make a repeatable design

Use an image you have permission to use

Choose a clear portrait the guest has approved, approved show or episode art, or a branded design made for the appearance. If you did not create the image, confirm permission with its owner or the guest where appropriate. Platform artwork instructions do not establish a permission policy for guest-page images.

Keep the card legible at small sizes

Use a recognizable face or image, a short guest or episode label, and show branding. Keep the face and any essential type near the center rather than close to the edges: responsive cards may crop the image differently at different widths. Avoid clutter and check that the text remains readable in a small preview.

Spotify’s creator guidance recommends simplicity, high image quality, and a consistent series style. It suggests making the thumbnail clearly communicate the episode topic or feature a recognizable guest. These are qualitative design recommendations, not a promise of higher click or listen rates.

Make a template, but do not make every episode indistinguishable

Use a consistent placement for the show name, guest, and visual identity so the page feels like a series. Let the portrait or episode image make each appearance distinct. Keep a high-resolution original so you can crop or resize later without rebuilding the artwork.

Export for the website, not an assumed universal size

Use the dimensions and image format required by your site builder or card component. The platform specifications below apply to native platform artwork, not to every website thumbnail:

Use Documented artwork guidance What it means for a guest link page
Spotify video episode thumbnail Horizontal 16:9; suggested resolution 1920 × 1080. Spotify says creators can select a video frame or upload an image in the episode details workflow. Spotify Support Follow this when preparing the video’s Spotify thumbnail; it does not prescribe your website card dimensions.
YouTube podcast artwork Square podcast thumbnail; recommended resolution 1280 × 1280. YouTube represents a podcast as a playlist and its episodes as videos. YouTube Help This is artwork for the YouTube podcast, not a universal guest-page thumbnail size.
Website guest-page card No universal specification established. Use the requirements of the actual site or component and preview its crop at desktop and mobile widths.

When the card component crops an image, preview the exported file inside the real page before publishing. A crop that works in the image editor may cut off a face or label in the site layout.

Build the card and verify its destination

  1. Prepare the image: Export to the site’s required dimensions and format, keeping the original master for future edits.
  2. Link the card: If the card is a link, make the image and an accessible text link point to the same episode destination. Give the link meaningful text such as the guest name and episode context rather than relying on the image alone.
  3. Embed only when it serves the page: If you use Spotify’s player, follow its embed workflow, adjust width and height to suit the page, and test the player in the actual layout.
  4. Check real display sizes: View the card on desktop and phone widths. Confirm the guest’s face, name, and episode context remain clear after cropping.
  5. Open the link: Test that it reaches the intended episode page or that the embedded player loads as expected.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need screenshots of the finished guest link page for a review or handoff, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot from one GET request. Its cleanup removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation.

Common problems and fixes

  • The face or text is cut off: The card is cropping the source image. Move essential content toward the center, then preview the image in the actual card at phone and desktop widths.
  • The thumbnail looks cluttered or unreadable: Reduce the number of words and decorative elements, and use a clearer image. Spotify Support’s advice is: “Keep it simple: Make sure your image is clear and not cluttered.”
  • The website image looks different from platform artwork: The website card and platform-native artwork have different uses and may have different crops or dimensions. Export separate versions when the site and platform require them.
  • A Spotify preview has no thumbnail image: Spotify’s oEmbed response may include an image URL and dimensions when available, but the documented response does not guarantee a preview image. Use an approved image or episode art you can use instead.
  • The card looks right but does not take visitors to the episode: Check both the image link and the accompanying text link, and test the final destination on the published page.

What thumbnail guidance can—and cannot—promise

Official platform guidance supports image clarity, simplicity, recognizable guests, and platform-specific artwork dimensions. It does not establish a universal website-card size or a numerical increase in clicks or listens from a particular thumbnail design. Treat mobile legibility, accurate episode context, and a working destination as practical checks—not performance guarantees.
