Repeat the shortcut for a larger view. To return to the normal size, press Ctrl + 0 or Command + 0.
These shortcuts use Page zoom, which enlarges the entire webpage. If you want larger words without enlarging images and videos, use Chrome’s Font size setting where the website supports it.

| Device | Make the page larger | Make it smaller | Reset zoom |

| Linux | Ctrl + + | Ctrl + – | Ctrl + 0 |

- Open the webpage you want to read.
- Select the three-dot More button in the upper-right corner.

Make text bigger on every website
Increase everything with default Page zoom
- Open More (the three dots).
- Select Settings.
- Select Appearance.
- Under Page zoom, choose a larger setting.
This is the most reliable browser-wide option because it scales the page itself, including graphics and controls.
Increase words with Font size
- Open More → Settings → Appearance.
- Under Font size, choose a larger option.
- Select Customize fonts if you need more control over text settings.
Font size attempts to enlarge text without scaling other page elements. Some websites control their typography in ways Chrome cannot override, so this setting will not work independently on every site. If a page ignores it, use Page zoom instead.
Make text bigger on one website only
For a single difficult-to-read site, open that site and use More → Zoom → +, or use the appropriate keyboard shortcut. Chrome remembers the selected zoom level for that site without changing your defaults for other websites.

To remove or manage saved site zoom levels, open More → Settings → Privacy and security → Site Settings → Additional content settings → Zoom levels. Select the X beside a site to delete its saved setting. These menu names reflect Chrome’s current desktop help documentation; later releases can move or rename controls.

| Control | What it changes | Best use | Possible drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Page zoom | Text, images, videos, controls, and layout | Quickest fix, site-specific enlargement, or pages that ignore Font size | Layouts can become wider, wrap navigation, or require more scrolling |
| Font size | Primarily text where the site permits browser overrides | Making words larger while leaving media closer to its original size | Some websites do not respond to text-only resizing |
Start with Page zoom when readability is the priority. Choose Font size when enlarging images would be distracting and the sites you use respond correctly.

If Chrome text is still too small
- The shortcut does nothing: confirm that you are using the plus key (often Shift + =), then use More → Zoom instead.
- You are on a phone or tablet: use the Android or iPhone/iPad menu paths above; desktop keyboard shortcuts do not apply.
- Only words need enlarging: try Settings → Appearance → Font size on desktop, while remembering that site support varies.
- An Android page blocks zooming: enable Force enable zoom under Chrome’s accessibility settings.
- The page is already enlarged: press Ctrl + 0 on Windows, Linux, or Chromebook, or Command + 0 on Mac. You can also use the minus control in the More menu.
- Everything on the computer is too small: use your operating system’s display scaling, accessibility text size, or screen magnifier. Chrome settings affect webpages, not every application.
- The content is a PDF, image, embedded frame, or specialized web app: its own controls may determine how much Chrome’s text settings can change.
When to use another accessibility control
A website may offer its own text-size button or reading mode, which can preserve its layout better than browser zoom. For occasional close-up reading, your operating system’s screen magnifier can enlarge a region without permanently changing Chrome. Use an extension only after checking its current permissions, privacy policy, maintenance, and compatibility.
