Plan a few purposeful shots, prioritize clear lighting and sound, edit out distractions, and disclose sponsorships, free products, or affiliate commissions when relevant.
1. Choose the question your video will answer
Start with the viewer’s need, not a list of product features. Decide what someone should understand after watching: how the product works, how a particular feature looks in practice, or what you noticed while using it. Then build the video around that purpose. There is no single script that suits every product; the aim is to make the product and its practical use easy to understand.

Be precise about what you have personally tried. Separate your observations from claims that need independent support. The FTC advises endorsers not to describe experience with a product they have not used or make claims they cannot substantiate. 2. Plan shots that help viewers judge the product
Before filming, write a short shot list that follows the question your video answers. Google’s Production Guide for Effective Ads on YouTube recommends tight framing, showing the product in use, lighting the set and product, paying attention to audio early, and capturing close-ups and extra footage for alternate edits.

- Establishing view: Show the whole product clearly so viewers know what they are looking at.
- Useful details: Film close-ups of controls, materials, ports, labels, or other details that matter to the viewer’s question.
- Product in use: Demonstrate the relevant action rather than relying on description alone.
- Extra footage: Capture additional angles and close-ups. They give you choices when editing and can help clarify a point without repeating narration.
Keep the framing steady and close enough for important details to be visible. A phone mount or tripod can help if handheld movement makes the product difficult to see, but choose equipment for your device and filming space rather than assuming a particular model is necessary.
3. Make the picture and sound clear
Light the product so its details are visible
Set up lighting before recording the full demonstration. Check that the product is not hidden in shadow and that reflective surfaces do not obscure the feature you are showing. A simple setup that makes the relevant details visible is more useful than elaborate lighting that distracts from them.

Record intelligible audio
Choose a quiet place, listen for background noise, and make sure narration can be understood. If you use a microphone, check that it works with your camera or phone and whether its placement suits your setup. Record a short test and listen back before filming the complete video. Clear sound matters even when the product itself is the visual focus.

Arrange the footage so the viewer can follow the product demonstration from beginning to end. Keep the shots that explain or show the product, use close-ups where they make a detail easier to judge, and remove repetition that does not add information. Extra footage gives you flexibility to choose the clearest angle.

The production guidance cited above does not establish a universal video length, editing application, or export specification. Choose an editing workflow that suits your device and the result you need; do not add technical complexity that does not improve the explanation.
5. Make claims and commercial disclosures responsibly
Keep endorsements truthful
Describe what you actually experienced, and do not present an unsupported performance or health claim as fact. A disclaimer does not make a misleading claim accurate. The FTC’s guidance is U.S. regulator guidance; applicable duties can depend on where you and your audience are located. The FTC notes that U.S. law may apply to posts made abroad when effects on U.S. consumers are reasonably foreseeable, and other countries may have their own rules.

Disclose sponsorships, gifts, and other material connections
If you received payment, a free or discounted product, or another benefit connected to your endorsement, viewers may need to know about that relationship. The FTC’s Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers says a disclosure for a video endorsement should appear in the video, not only in its description. Audio and visual disclosure can help viewers notice it. For affiliate commissions, the FTC says to disclose in the video and near the affiliate links in the description; see its Endorsement Guides Q&A.

YouTube asks creators to report branded content, sponsorships, endorsements, or other commercial relationships using the paid-promotion option in the video details. YouTube says this adds a disclosure label at the beginning of the video. See YouTube Creator Academy’s paid-promotion disclosure guidance and YouTube’s information for viewers about branded content. The platform label does not replace any disclosure required by the laws that apply to you; YouTube says creators and brands are responsible for understanding local obligations, as explained in its creator guidance.

6. A simple filming checklist
- Can you state the viewer’s question in one sentence?
- Does the shot list include a clear overall view, useful close-ups, and footage of the product in use?
- Can viewers see the product’s important details?
- Is the narration intelligible, and have you checked a test recording?
- Do your statements match what you know and have actually experienced?
- Have you disclosed relevant commercial relationships in the video and, for affiliate links, near those links in the description?
- If the video includes branded content or another commercial relationship, have you used YouTube’s paid-promotion control where applicable?
