You can make OsmAnd feel more familiar by choosing a suitable map style, adjusting labels and road visibility, and simplifying the on-screen controls. These changes create a personal approximation—not an exact Google Maps replica. The menu names and available options can vary by platform, app version, and profile.
Start with the profile you actually use
OsmAnd keeps map settings and screen layouts by profile, so first switch to the profile you use for the task—such as browsing or navigation. Otherwise, you may customize one profile and then wonder why the changes are missing in another.

On many versions, map options are under Menu → Configure map, while interface controls are under Menu → Configure screen. Follow the equivalent labeled section if your app’s menus differ.

Open Menu → Configure map → Map style and try the built-in vector styles. They offer different levels of detail and visual character; choose the one that best suits the familiar, easy-to-scan map you want. A style is a starting point, not a Google Maps clone.

If none of the built-in options works for you, OsmAnd also supports custom vector styles. You can import a .render.xml file or an .osf package, then select the imported style. This advanced route is for people comfortable handling style files; it is not necessary for ordinary appearance adjustments.
Adjust map brightness, roads, and labels
Use the map display controls to tune the visual hierarchy and readability. Depending on your version and platform, options may be grouped or labeled differently.

- Map mode: Choose light, dark, or an automatic day/night behavior where available.
- Road style: Adjust road presentation when the selected style offers the option. Look for enough contrast to distinguish the routes you care about without letting roads dominate the map.
- Magnification and text size: Increase them if roads or labels are hard to read. Larger rendering can make the map feel busier; very low magnification can make a vector map look noisy or slow, as OsmAnd’s guide cautions.
- Map language: Set the language used for displayed place names, where supported. This changes name spelling, not the underlying style.
Change one group of settings at a time, then look at the same area at the same zoom level. That makes it easier to tell whether a change improved readability or simply increased map density.
Decide which map details and layers to show
In Configure map, use Details and Hide to control which map objects are visible. Keep the information you use and remove visual clutter you do not need.

Layers are overlays that add information on top of the base map. Enable them only when they help with your task: a layer does not replace or redefine the underlying map style.
Make the screen less cluttered
Open Menu → Configure screen to choose which widgets and buttons appear and how the screen is arranged. Widget visibility and order are profile-dependent, so make these changes in the profile you intend to use.

- Keep the widgets that answer a real question while you browse or navigate.
- Hide buttons you rarely use to make the map easier to see.
- Use custom buttons for quick actions you want close at hand. Button appearance controls are available only in supported configurations.
Tune the map separately for navigation
If you want the in-navigation view to feel more familiar, review its route line and navigation widgets separately from the general map. The documented path is Menu → Settings → App profiles → Navigation settings → Map during navigation; labels may vary by version.
OsmAnd documents advanced route-line customization as a Pro feature. Check the option’s availability in your app and on your platform before relying on it. Navigation settings are not a substitute for adjusting the general map style.

Refine the result with a simple comparison
Compare the same map area before and after each round of changes. Check these elements in order:
- Base map style and day/night mode.
- Road contrast and visible map details.
- Label size and map language.
- Widget and button clutter.
- Route-line appearance while navigating.
Once the map is readable and the controls feel natural, stop adjusting. Matching the familiar parts that matter to you is more useful than trying to reproduce another app pixel for pixel.
