Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallYou can make OBS start streaming after a Windows reboot by launching it with the --startstreaming flag, but that alone does not guarantee a 24/7 stream will recover from every failure. First set up a looping music source and YouTube broadcast, then configure startup and test reboots, network loss, and YouTube prompts on your own system.
What OBS can—and cannot—restart
OBS can loop a local music or video file and can be launched with a request to begin streaming. A Windows community example uses --startstreaming in an OBS shortcut, then places the shortcut in Startup or runs it through Task Scheduler. This can start OBS after a reboot; it is not a complete watchdog.

If OBS starts before the network is ready, the first connection may fail. A media source can stop or stall independently of the application, and YouTube may require you to select a broadcast or clear a Manage Broadcast prompt. OBS auto-reconnect is not proof that every failed process, source, or broadcast will recover. Treat this as setup-specific automation and verify it after reboot and simulated connection loss.
1. Build and test a looping music scene
- Open OBS and create or select the scene you want to use for the stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Name it clearly, then choose the local audio or video file. OBS documentation lists MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV among supported audio formats. OBS Media Sources
- In the Media Source properties, enable Loop. The separate Restart playback when source becomes active option controls playback when the source becomes visible or active; it does not restart OBS or the YouTube stream.
- Play the scene and check that the OBS audio meter moves. Listen to the output you intend to send, then let the file reach its end and confirm it begins again. Test a full cycle before relying on it unattended.
2. Configure the YouTube broadcast and protect the key
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and a stream key. The key functions like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Enter the destination details in OBS using YouTube’s current live-control workflow, and do not share screenshots or configuration files that reveal the key.

Review the broadcast’s auto-start and auto-stop choices deliberately. YouTube’s reuse-settings option copies the stream key and those auto-start/auto-stop selections, so check the settings each time you reuse a broadcast configuration. Manage live stream settings
Before leaving OBS unattended, confirm that the intended broadcast is selected and that no confirmation or broadcast-management dialog is waiting for input. Some OBS/YouTube setups do not proceed automatically through broadcast selection.

3. Launch OBS into streaming on Windows
The documented example below is community guidance for Windows, not an official cross-platform recipe. Check the executable path and quoting against your installed OBS version.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Find the OBS shortcut you use to open the correct profile and scene collection. Open its properties and inspect the Target field.
- Append a space and
--startstreamingafter the quoted OBS executable path. Keep the executable path itself inside its existing quotation marks. The resulting target should follow this pattern:"C:PathToobs64.exe" --startstreaming. Your actual installation path may differ. - Test the edited shortcut manually. Confirm OBS opens the expected profile and scene, starts playback, and connects to the intended YouTube broadcast. If the shortcut produces an error or opens the wrong configuration, correct that before adding it to startup.
- To run it after sign-in, place the tested shortcut in the Windows Startup folder. Alternatively, use Task Scheduler to launch the shortcut at the appropriate sign-in or startup event. A delay or a connectivity check may help when the computer boots before the network is ready, but the forum example does not validate a particular delay or scheduler configuration.
The Windows example and flag are discussed in the OBS forum thread on starting after a reboot. It does not establish an equivalent configuration for macOS or Linux.

4. Test recovery as separate failure cases
Do not treat one successful reboot as proof of continuous recovery. Test each failure mode separately, while you can observe both OBS and the public YouTube player.
- Computer reboot: Restart the computer and confirm OBS opens, the correct scene plays, and YouTube receives the stream.
- Brief network interruption: Interrupt connectivity briefly, restore it, and check whether OBS reconnects and the viewer page resumes. A successful test on your network does not guarantee behavior after a longer outage.
- Broadcast selection or prompt: Check whether YouTube or OBS waits for a broadcast choice or confirmation. A community report describes a broadcast-selection prompt remaining even after the launch flag is added. OBS forum discussion
- Media-source continuity: Observe a complete file loop and check that audio continues after the transition. The source’s playback restart option is not application recovery.
- Recording: If you need a durable copy of the music stream, verify that a local recording is being written and that its file continues to grow. A live player and a complete archive are separate outcomes.
A startup shortcut can launch OBS, but it does not by itself detect a dead OBS process, a stuck source, or a stream that needs an operator to select a broadcast. A watchdog or script is an additional implementation choice and should be tested with the exact OBS, Windows, network, and YouTube setup rather than assumed to work.

5. Choose encoder settings that suit the connection
Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations as a starting point, then test with representative audio and video while watching stream health. A setting that exceeds what the upload connection can sustain may produce interruptions even when OBS remains open.
- Protocol and video: YouTube’s guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS and H.264.
- Rate control: Use CBR as YouTube recommends for this encoder workflow.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio.
- Bitrate and quality: Choose a bitrate appropriate to the resolution and the upload capacity you can sustain, and test the complete setup. YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee that a stream will never fail.
See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for its current recommendations. Do not infer an ideal bitrate for your particular music stream without matching it to the chosen resolution, encoder, and reliable upload capacity.

6. Understand the archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 player therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay or archive. If you need a durable recording, plan a local recording and check that the output file is being written. YouTube guidance on archiving live streams
7. Clear music rights before broadcasting
Make sure you have permission for each track and for the actual uses you intend: YouTube live broadcasting, the relevant territories, and any archive or replay. YouTube’s live-stream settings include rights-management controls such as Content ID and rights policies, but those controls do not grant permission to use music. YouTube live-stream settings
For an Indian music stream, do not assume that owning a recording, finding it online, or having permission for personal listening covers a public YouTube livestream or its replay. Confirm that the license specifically covers your channel’s use and the applicable territories.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS opens after reboot but does not go live. | The startup shortcut did not pass the flag correctly, the network was not ready, or YouTube is waiting for a broadcast selection or confirmation. | Run the shortcut manually, verify its target and profile, confirm connectivity, and inspect OBS and YouTube for a waiting prompt. |
| The music stops at the end of the file. | Loop is disabled or the wrong media source is active. | Open the Media Source properties, enable Loop, and observe a full playback cycle. |
| The stream drops during a network outage and stays offline. | The connection did not recover automatically, or the application or broadcast needs action beyond the startup flag. | Test a brief interruption, check stream health and broadcast selection, and do not rely on the reboot startup mechanism as a recovery watchdog. |
| The live stream works, but no complete archive appears. | Long streams may not be captured in full by YouTube. | For a 24/7 stream, use a local recording if a durable copy is required and verify the recording file is growing. |
| A music track triggers a rights issue. | The permission may not cover live use, the territory, or the archive/replay. | Review the license terms for those specific uses; platform rights controls are not a substitute for permission. |
