You can improve your chances of earning from Vimeo On Demand by choosing a format that fits your work, setting a clear price and sales page, promoting the page, and using analytics to see where interest comes from. But there is an important limit: Vimeo says On Demand will shut down on November 20, 2026. New subscriptions and subscription renewals are disabled after September 21, 2026. That short runway matters if you are deciding whether to launch or invest more time in a title.
First, decide whether the remaining sales window is worth the work
Vimeo’s official service notice says Vimeo On Demand “is still available for now” but will fully shut down on November 20, 2026. Vimeo also says new subscriptions and subscription renewals are disabled after September 21, 2026. The notice does not list a publication date or named author. Treat those dates as the product’s announced availability limits, not as a guarantee that a title will earn enough to justify a new launch.

For an existing title, use the remaining period to review sales and plan where your audience will go next. For a new title, weigh the time needed to prepare the page, attract buyers and migrate your offer against the time left before shutdown. Vimeo recommends Vimeo OTT for creators just starting to sell video, but that is a different product with different fees and setup choices.
Choose the sales format that matches the work
Standalone film or video
Vimeo On Demand lets sellers set rental and purchase prices for a single film or video. A renter streams for the term selected at checkout, from one day to one year, and cannot download the title. A buyer can stream the title only until On Demand shuts down. If you enabled downloads, buyers may keep an eligible downloaded copy; do not describe a purchase as permanent streaming access.

Series
For a series, sellers can offer episode-level or whole-series rental and purchase choices, and can set subscription pricing. Subscriptions are subject to the September 21, 2026 cutoff for new subscriptions and renewals, as well as the November 20 shutdown. Vimeo’s documentation does not establish that one format earns more than another for a particular audience, so choose based on how viewers are likely to watch and what you can deliver during the remaining service life.
Set a price with net proceeds—not the list price—in mind
Vimeo says sellers keep 90% of gross revenue after transaction costs have been deducted. Transaction costs vary from 4% to 17%, depending on the title’s price, the purchaser’s payment method and currency. Applicable taxes also affect proceeds; in VAT/GST regions, the displayed buyer price may include tax. Vimeo then takes 10% of the amount remaining after transaction costs and taxes. As a result, the list price multiplied by 90% is not a reliable estimate of your payout.

Vimeo’s setup article illustrates the calculation with a $10 purchase by a New York buyer: about $7.80 remains after a stated $0.48 transaction fee, $0.85 applicable tax and $0.87 revenue share. That is Vimeo’s example calculation, not a general payout or earnings guarantee. Check your actual sale statement or CSV for the sale-level breakdown instead of estimating from the listed price.

Make the offer and title page easy to understand
Vimeo’s setup feature is documented for sellers on Standard, Advanced, Pro, Business, Premium or Enterprise plans; check your plan’s availability before building around a setting. The title page can include a title, description, release year, genre, tags, rating, language, distribution regions and selected currencies. Sellers can upload a trailer, feature or episodes, bonus content, poster and page thumbnail, and use promotional codes or VIP access.
- Explain exactly what is being sold. State whether the offer is a single film, a series, or particular episodes, and make the rental term or purchase limitations clear.
- Use the trailer to represent the finished work. Vimeo identifies a trailer as part of the setup; its documentation does not establish that trailers or any particular trailer length increase sales.
- Make the title and description specific. Include the subject, format and intended audience so a prospective viewer can decide whether the offer fits.
- Use bonus content and promo codes selectively. These are available configuration options, not proven conversion boosters. Decide whether the extra production or discount serves a clear purpose.
Vimeo’s help documentation describes available settings, not controlled evidence that any one page element or price will raise conversion. Treat changes as hypotheses and use your own sales and traffic data to decide what to retain.

Promote the page and inspect the signals Vimeo provides
You can share the On Demand page by link through social media or email, or embed it on another site. On Demand analytics include sales, gross revenue, trailer plays and likes, comments, contacts, referrers and geographic views. Use them to identify where interest and sales are appearing, then decide where further promotion is worth your effort. A referrer or geography metric shows an association; it does not prove that a particular channel caused sales.
Vimeo does not give sellers the names or contact details of all buyers. You can export addresses for people who opted in to seller updates, subject to Vimeo’s email policy. Do not plan a marketing funnel on the assumption that you will receive a complete customer list.

Plan the migration before changing your offer
Vimeo says OTT is its suggested option for creators just starting to sell video. OTT supports ad-based and free content, pay-per-view, transactional purchase or rental, and subscriptions. Its fee structure differs from On Demand, and the official materials do not establish that switching will make a particular creator more money.

Before moving, compare the actual offer and audience fit—not just headline fees. Include payment costs and taxes, catalog migration work, setup time, supported countries, download access, customer-contact tools and analytics. The Vimeo materials cited here do not quantify migration costs or predict relative sales.
Also plan for format changes carefully: Vimeo’s FAQ says changing a title between rent/buy and subscription requires creating a new On Demand page and deleting the old one. With the shutdown approaching, assess that work alongside the destination you intend to use.
