You can earn from YouTube live streams through Watch Page ads and eligible YouTube Premium viewing, viewer-paid Super Chats and Super Stickers, channel memberships, Shopping, and negotiated brand partnerships. These are separate routes with different eligibility and terms—not a single monetization switch—and enabling ads does not guarantee an ad or a payment on every stream.

Watch Page ad and Premium revenue require acceptance of YouTube’s Watch Page Monetization Module. Fan-funding tools have separate conditions and must be turned on individually. Shopping availability is also conditional, so do not assume a channel can tag products simply because it can stream. YouTube’s official eligibility page, reviewed October 3, 2026, lists two relevant threshold levels. Meeting a subscriber and viewing threshold does not automatically unlock every feature: policy compliance, location, age, module acceptance, and feature-specific requirements can also apply.

How to enable monetization for live streams
- Check eligibility in YouTube Studio. Open the Earn area and review your channel’s status, available features, and any outstanding requirements. The thresholds above are not a substitute for the account-specific eligibility shown there.
- Accept the relevant terms. For Watch Page ads and qualifying Premium revenue from live streams, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. For memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, YouTube requires YPP participation, age and location eligibility, acceptance of the Commerce Product Module or a qualifying prior addendum, and activation of each feature.
- Turn on the features you can use. In YouTube Studio’s Earn area, enable applicable ads, memberships, and fan-funding features. Availability and exact controls can vary by channel and location; follow the prompts shown in your account.
- Set up Shopping only if eligible. Check the Earn/Shopping area in Studio and YouTube’s current requirements before tagging products. Do not promise viewers that an item is available unless the product and feature are actually accessible to your channel and audience.
- Review the stream’s monetization settings before going live. Confirm the intended monetization options for that broadcast. For mid-roll ads, choose automatic insertion or use the available manual controls; neither setting guarantees that an ad will serve.
What YouTube’s revenue-share figures do—and do not—tell you
YouTube’s partner earnings overview, reviewed October 3, 2026, lists creators at 55% of net Watch Page ad revenue under the Watch Page Monetization Module, and 70% of net revenue for memberships and fan-funding features under the relevant module. These are module-specific shares of net revenue. They are not percentages of every kind of income, a promise of a particular payout, or necessarily the amount remaining after taxes. YouTube’s cited materials do not establish a universal amount earned per live stream, viewer, or thousand views. Ad delivery is not guaranteed, and results vary with actual ad serving, qualifying viewing, audience purchases or memberships, feature eligibility, and any negotiated commercial arrangements. Treat any fixed “earnings per stream” estimate as an estimate for its stated channel and conditions, not a dependable YouTube-wide rate.

Make viewer-paid features useful to the audience
- Super Chat and Super Stickers: explain briefly how viewers can use them, then acknowledge paid messages fairly without suggesting that payment buys a particular outcome unless your published rules say so.
- Memberships: describe the actual perks and how viewers receive them. Set a sustainable schedule and do not offer benefits you cannot reliably deliver.
- Shopping: feature products that fit the stream and identify what is being promoted. Check product availability and program terms rather than assuming affiliate access.
- Brand partnerships: agree in writing on deliverables, payment, timing, usage rights, and any other material terms before the stream. Verify the proposed partner and comply with applicable disclosure rules.
Keep monetized streams within YouTube’s rules
Monetization depends on more than having a live stream enabled. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to monetized content, and feature-specific commerce policies also apply. Use material you own or have permission to use, including music and video; a live broadcast does not make copyrighted material safe to reuse. Check policy and feature eligibility in Studio, and do not assume a stream, product, or paid feature is available worldwide.
