For Loki’s Chrome renderer, set --chromeLoadTimeout to the number of milliseconds Loki should wait before taking a screenshot. The documented default is 60000 (60 seconds). For example, to set a 90-second timeout, run:

Loki documents --chromeLoadTimeout as the wait, in milliseconds, before Chrome screenshot capture. The default listed in its command-line reference is 60000. Increase the number if the page needs a longer load period; choose a value appropriate for your page and environment.

The reference gives 60000 milliseconds as the default and was last updated August 27, 2024. If your installed Loki version rejects the flag or behaves differently, check that version’s CLI help and matching documentation.
What the timeout does—and does not establish
The setting controls how long Loki waits for the page to load before taking the screenshot. The documentation does not define this as a network-idle wait, nor does it promise that every client-rendered update, animation, or asynchronous operation has finished. Increasing the timeout alone therefore does not establish that a page’s later application content has reached the visual state you want to capture.

If a screenshot is missing content that appears after the page load event, first determine what readiness condition the page requires. The cited Loki reference documents this timeout, but does not specify a separate readiness-state option for that situation.
Keep the timeout separate from other Chrome settings
Loki’s command-line reference lists other Chrome controls, including concurrency (default 4), retries (default 0), animation enabling (default false), and the default Chrome selector #root > *. These affect other aspects of capture; they are not substitutes for --chromeLoadTimeout.

loki test captures screenshots and compares them with reference files. loki update captures screenshots and updates the reference files, and accepts the same arguments. Use the command that matches whether you intend to compare against existing references or replace them.
Troubleshoot a timeout that does not help
- The package runner reports an unknown option or Loki does not receive it: when using Yarn or npm, put
--before Loki’s arguments. Check the resulting command and your installed version’s CLI help if the flag is still rejected. - The capture starts before late content appears: a longer load timeout only extends the documented wait before capture; it does not prove that later application updates or asynchronous content are ready. The cited reference does not establish a separate readiness condition for those cases.
- The capture waits longer than expected: the flag is measured in milliseconds. For example,
90000means 90 seconds, while the documented default of60000means 60 seconds. - Reference images change after using
loki update: that command updates reference files. Useloki testwhen you want to capture and compare without choosing the reference-update command.
