This changes the Home button; startup pages, new tabs, and address-bar searches are separate settings.
Choose which Edge setting you mean

Microsoft groups the first and third options in related settings, but they do not automatically control one another.
Set Google as the Home-button page on desktop Edge
These steps apply to Edge on Windows and macOS. Labels can vary slightly by release, language, or an organization-managed installation.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner, then select Settings.
- Open Start, home, and new tab page.
- Turn on Show home button on the toolbar.
- Choose the option to enter a URL or use a specific page.
- Enter
https://www.google.com. Google identifieswww.google.comas its homepage address (Google support). - Leave the field or save it if Edge presents a save control.
- Select the house-shaped Home button to verify that Google opens.
Microsoft’s current desktop instructions are documented at Change your browser home page. You can also use Alt+Home on Windows or Command+Shift+H on macOS to open the configured Home page (Edge keyboard shortcuts).

Make Google open when Edge starts
Changing the Home button does not determine what Edge displays at launch. Configure startup separately:
- Go to Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Open Start, home, and new tab page, or find a section labeled On startup.
- Choose the option to open a specific page or pages.
- Add
https://www.google.com. - Remove unwanted startup pages if more than one is listed.
- Close Edge completely and reopen it to test.
Microsoft describes startup customization as a separate choice in its Edge guidance (Make the switch to Microsoft Edge). If Edge is set to restore the previous session instead, it may reopen those tabs rather than the specified page.

Set Google for address-bar searches
A Google Home page does not change the search provider used when you type words into Edge’s address bar. To change that provider:
- Open Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services.
- Open Search and connected experiences.
- Select Address bar and search.
- Choose Google under Search engine used in address bar.

Why new tabs may still show Microsoft content
Pressing Ctrl+T on Windows or Command+T on macOS opens Edge’s new-tab page, not the Home-button page. The standard new-tab screen can continue to show Microsoft Start content, quick links, and its feed even after Google is configured as Home.
Use the controls on the new-tab page to adjust its layout, background, quick links, or feed. Standard Edge settings may not offer a simple built-in switch that replaces every new tab with Google. An extension can alter new-tab behavior, but review its permissions, privacy policy, maintenance record, and compatibility first. Microsoft notes that extensions can change browser settings and recommends disabling or removing ones that modify behavior (Microsoft Edge extensions FAQ).

Set Google as the Home page in Edge on Android
Mobile Edge uses different menus from desktop Edge. In the Android app, open Menu (… ) → Settings → Home page, choose the option for a specific page, enter the web address, and save it. Microsoft lists mobile Home-page, new-tab, and search controls separately in Microsoft Edge app help. Do not assume the desktop Start, home, and new tab page path exists on your phone. iPhone and iPad options may use different labels and availability.

The Home button is missing
Return to Start, home, and new tab page and enable Show home button on the toolbar. The URL setting has no visible effect until the button is displayed.

Home opens Google, but startup opens another page
You changed only the Home-button destination. Configure the separate startup option, check for multiple startup pages, and check whether Edge is restoring the previous session.
Address-bar searches still use Bing
Set Google under Privacy, search, and services → Search and connected experiences → Address bar and search. The Home-page setting does not change this provider.
New tabs still show the Edge feed
This is normal when only the Home or startup setting was changed. Adjust the new-tab page or consider a carefully vetted extension if replacing it is essential.
The setting keeps reverting
- Temporarily disable extensions that alter the homepage, search, or new-tab page.
- On a work or school device, open
edge://policyto see policies that may lock the setting or restore it. - Check whether browser sync is bringing a setting from another signed-in device.
- If the change occurs without your permission, scan for unwanted software. Google provides additional homepage troubleshooting at Google Search help.
Organization controls can prevent edits entirely; in that case, an administrator must change the policy.
A simpler alternative
If you only need quick access to Google, add https://www.google.com to Favorites or the favorites bar. This avoids changing startup, Home-button, search-engine, or new-tab behavior.
