Can I loop a YouTube video during a live stream?
Not with YouTube’s ordinary watch-page Loop control. YouTube documents that control for replaying a regular video or playlist. YouTube Live works differently: an encoder or supported console sends a feed to YouTube. The reviewed YouTube Help documentation does not describe a Live Control Room switch that loops an uploaded video inside that incoming feed, so don’t expect the watch-page control to do it.
For a Live event that repeatedly shows gaming footage, the source of the broadcast must supply that repeated footage. That could be gameplay being sent from a computer or console, or prerecorded footage played through a production workflow that sends it as the Live feed. YouTube’s documentation supports the encoder and console workflows, but does not establish one official, universal method for automating a prerecorded loop.
How do I repeat a video on YouTube?
If you only need viewers to replay a published video or playlist, use YouTube’s playback controls. The exact labels can vary by device and interface; these are the instructions in YouTube Help’s Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.

- Computer, single video: Open the video, right-click the player, and choose Loop.
- Computer, playlist: Open a video in the playlist and select the playlist’s Loop control.
- Android: Open the video, tap Settings > Additional settings > Loop video.
- TV or gaming console: Use the Repeat setting for the current video or playlist, where available.
This repeats playback for the viewer. It does not create a Live event or broadcast the video to your channel’s live audience.
How to send gaming footage to YouTube Live
For computer gameplay, YouTube’s documented encoder workflow connects an encoder to a Live Control Room event with a stream URL and stream key. You can send a gameplay feed from an encoder; microphones, headsets, and webcams are optional if you want commentary or an on-camera presentation. A capture card is only needed for some console-to-computer setups, not every broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

- Check access before the planned broadcast. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its current Help page sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming early and confirm it is available. - Choose the content source and workflow. For PC gameplay, capture the gameplay in your encoder and send that feed to YouTube. For console gameplay, check whether your console and chosen workflow support direct-to-YouTube streaming. If you need a computer in a console workflow, the equipment depends on how you connect the console; a capture card is conditional, not universal. Decide whether you need live gameplay and chat interaction or simply want continuous viewing of prerecorded footage.
- Create or select the Live event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s YouTube connection settings. Treat the stream key as private: it connects your encoder to the event.
- Configure the encoder for your connection and source. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion and publishes encoder guidance for resolutions, frame rates, and bitrates. Choose settings that suit your content and available upload capacity; there is no single bitrate appropriate for every creator or connection. YouTube transcodes live feeds into multiple viewer formats, so viewers may see options suited to their devices and networks. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions rather than copying a setting without regard to your upload speed.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and check the preview in Live Control Room. Test representative gameplay movement and audio, confirm the picture and sound are right, and check stream health. YouTube advises having adequate upload capacity and leaving bandwidth headroom. Its live streaming tips cover setup and checks.
- Start the event and verify access. Once the feed looks right, start the Live event using the controls for your workflow. Check that it is accessible from your channel and its watch page, and monitor stream health while it is live.
- End the feed cleanly. When the event is over, stop sending content from the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube. If you are recording an archive locally, check that the recording is intact.
Making prerecorded gaming footage repeat as a Live feed
The key requirement is that your chosen production workflow—not YouTube’s viewer-facing Loop control—must keep supplying the footage to the Live event. A computer-based setup can use an encoder and a playback source, but the exact looping controls depend on the software and configuration. YouTube’s reviewed help pages explain how an encoder connects and how to monitor a broadcast; they do not prescribe a particular automation tool or guarantee an unlimited 24/7 prerecorded-loop setup.
Before relying on any setup, confirm it repeats the entire intended sequence, including the transition from the last clip back to the first; keeps the audio and video synchronized; and continues to send a feed for the duration you need. Test privately or in a non-public workflow where appropriate, and check event visibility and stream health before sharing the link. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the gameplay footage, music, and other material you include, and review YouTube’s current rules for live content. A looping format does not itself establish that content is permitted or eligible for monetization.

DVR for viewers
If DVR is enabled for a stream, YouTube says viewers can pause or rewind and then resume where they paused. That affects an individual viewer’s playback; it does not loop the broadcast feed. See Manage live stream settings.

Common problems and fixes
- The video repeats on your screen but is not Live. You are using the regular playback Loop/Repeat control. Send the content through a Live encoder or supported console workflow instead.
- The event is unavailable or the encoder cannot connect. Check that live streaming is enabled, the event is selected, and the encoder has the correct stream URL and key. If you are enabling Live for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- The preview is blank, choppy, or has missing audio. Check the encoder’s selected source and audio routing, then test the feed again in Live Control Room. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings, reduce the output settings in line with YouTube’s current encoder guidance and available upload bandwidth.
- The Live page exists but viewers cannot find or open it. Verify the event’s visibility and confirm it appears through the channel and watch pages before sharing it.
- The broadcast stops unexpectedly. Check encoder output and connection health. YouTube’s documentation does not promise that a particular prerecorded-loop setup will recover automatically; recovery depends on the workflow you choose.
