Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If an older Samsung Galaxy tablet feels slow, start with the reversible fixes: check storage and memory in Device Care, restart the tablet, and install any available software update. Then investigate recently installed apps. These steps address common causes Samsung identifies, but they cannot guarantee a particular speed increase; menus and features vary by model, software version, and carrier.
1. Check storage and memory
Full storage and apps running in the background can make a Galaxy tablet feel sluggish. Samsung’s Device Care guidance explains how to review and optimize device resources; the exact menu name and available options vary.

- Open Settings and look for Device care or Battery and device care.
- Tap Storage to review large files and apps you no longer use. Delete only items you are sure you do not need.
- Return to Device Care and open Memory, if available. Close apps you are not using and use the cleanup option if the tablet offers one.
Do not delete personal files just to chase an arbitrary free-space target: Samsung’s guidance does not establish a universal amount of storage that guarantees faster performance.
2. Restart, then check for updates
A restart can clear temporary background activity. After restarting, check for software updates; Samsung lists outdated software among the possible causes of slow performance.

- Follow the on-screen instructions. An older model may have no update available.
Samsung says updates can help with performance, stability, and compatibility, but does not promise that an update will make every tablet faster. Its slow or unresponsive device guidance also notes that settings can differ by device and software version.
3. Find out whether an app is responsible
If the slowdown started after installing an app
Review recently installed apps and remove ones you do not recognize or trust. If the tablet is slow only when using one app, try clearing that app’s cache first: open Settings > Apps, select the app, tap Storage, then Clear cache. Labels may differ by version. Samsung’s app troubleshooting steps explain the distinction between clearing cache and data.

Clearing data is a more disruptive step: it resets the app and removes saved app data or settings stored on the tablet. Use it only if you understand what the app may erase and can sign in or restore its information afterward.

Safe mode disables downloaded apps temporarily. If the tablet works normally in Safe mode, a downloaded app may be contributing to the problem. Follow Samsung’s Safe mode instructions for your model, then uninstall suspect apps after restarting normally. Safe mode is a diagnostic, not a permanent performance setting.

4. Treat microSD as extra file storage, not a speed upgrade
Some Galaxy tablets support microSD cards and others do not. Check the specifications for the exact model and its supported card capacity before buying one. A compatible card can provide room for files, and some apps may allow content to be moved, but it does not add RAM or upgrade the processor. Samsung also says its Android devices do not support Adoptable storage, so a card should not be treated as internal memory. See Samsung’s microSD compatibility guidance and storage-card guidance.
5. Run diagnostics and decide when to get service
If the slowdown continues, run diagnostics in the Samsung Members app if it is available on your tablet. If performance remains poor in Safe mode, Samsung says hardware may be involved; contact Samsung support or a qualified service provider, particularly if you suspect physical damage or a failing component.

6. Use factory reset only after backing up
A factory reset erases personal data from the tablet. Try the lower-risk steps first, then back up files and information you want to keep before resetting. Samsung’s factory-reset guidance explains the process and its consequences. If your microSD card is encrypted, decrypt it before resetting; otherwise, the tablet may no longer be able to read it afterward.
