In OBS, add your piano recording as a Media Source, enable Loop, and send the scene to YouTube Live using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. That makes OBS replay the file; a seamless musical loop also depends on how the recording’s ending joins its beginning. Listen to that boundary before relying on a long broadcast.
What “seamless” means in a looping stream
There are two separate jobs: OBS must restart playback when the file ends, and the audio itself must make that restart sound natural. OBS’s Loop setting repeats the file after playback completes; its documentation does not say it crossfades the ending into the beginning or repairs an abrupt musical transition. A clean repeat therefore starts with a source recording whose last moment flows into its first.
For a source that includes both picture and piano, the same playback loop repeats the whole media file. For audio-only piano, add a visual source separately in OBS if you want an image or other static scene on screen.
Prepare the piano recording and confirm you can use it
Choose a rights-cleared source
Use music you created or have permission to livestream and archive. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. Buying a recording or crediting its composer does not by itself establish that you have livestream rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A stream may be interrupted or terminated, and even licensed music can cause interruptions if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and arrange any required allowlisting with the rights owner before going live.
Listen to the file’s loop boundary
Play the end of the recording followed immediately by its beginning several times. Listen for silence, a sudden change in loudness, a clipped note, room noise, or a shift in the piano’s tone that makes the restart noticeable. If the transition is distracting, use a different recording or edit the source with an audio editor you trust; the OBS setting alone will not smooth it. There is no one edit that guarantees a natural join for every piano file.

Choose a single file or a playlist
| OBS source | Best suited to | Loop behavior and requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One audio file or one audio/video file that should repeat as a unit | Enable Loop to replay the file after it finishes. OBS lists audio support for MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV, and video support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. |
| VLC Video source | A set of files you want to play as a playlist | Use its Loop Playlist property. VLC must be installed for this source to appear in OBS. |
These are documented playback options in the OBS Media Sources guide. A playlist repeats its collection; check the transitions between adjacent tracks as well as the transition from the final item back to the first.
Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube Live
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube lists a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days among its requirements; its current general setup page also says livestreamers must be at least 16. Review YouTube’s live-streaming requirements for current account details.
- Add the media source. In OBS, create or select the scene you want to broadcast. In the Sources panel, choose +, then Media Source; create a new source, browse to the local piano audio or audio/video file, and enable Loop. For a playlist, add VLC Video instead and configure its playlist loop; install VLC first if the source is unavailable.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm the source is visible in the OBS preview if it contains video, and check the audio meter while playback runs. If the source is audio-only, add the visual you want viewers to see to the same scene.
- Get the YouTube connection details. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube describes the key as the password and address the encoder uses to send the feed; keep it private. Follow the current stream settings instructions and encoder setup guide.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then verify that YouTube’s Live Control Room receives the feed and that both picture and audio are present. Do not treat a successful connection as proof that the loop boundary sounds smooth.
- Test a complete repeat before depending on the stream. Listen through the end and restart in the YouTube preview or a monitored playback. Check for a pause, click, abrupt volume shift, or unexpected change in picture. YouTube recommends preparing encoder streams in advance, checking access on watch or channel pages and mobile, and monitoring audio and video quality during the stream; see its live-streaming tips.
Keep the broadcast and its archive in mind
OBS can repeat the local file while the encoder is running, but you still need to monitor the broadcast and respond if YouTube reports a problem. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the current YouTube interface and policy before relying on archive behavior for a longer broadcast; see the encoder setup guide.

Troubleshoot an audible or visual break
- The file plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For multiple files, confirm you used VLC Video and enabled Loop Playlist.
- VLC Video is missing: OBS requires VLC to be installed for that source to appear. Use a single Media Source file instead if a playlist is not essential.
- There is a gap or jump at the repeat: Listen to the source’s end-to-start boundary. OBS repeats playback but does not document automatic seam repair; revise or replace the source if the join is audible.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that OBS has the stream URL and key from the correct YouTube Live Control Room stream. Keep the key private and use YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to reconnect.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast over music: Check the stream’s copyright notice and contact the rights owner if permission or Content ID allowlisting is needed. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
- The preview looks or sounds wrong: Confirm the intended OBS scene and source are active, inspect the audio meter, and verify the incoming preview in Live Control Room before sharing the stream.
