YouTube’s podcast RSS feature is available in India, but submitting an RSS feed does not create a live stream. It publishes podcast episodes as videos with static show art. To broadcast an episode live—or run a continuous audio show—you must create a YouTube live broadcast and send it an audio-video feed through an encoder or cloud streaming service.
Choose the right workflow
| What you want | Use | What viewers get |
|---|---|---|
| Publish new podcast episodes to YouTube when they appear in your feed | YouTube RSS feed delivery | Individual episode videos using static show art; not a live broadcast. YouTube Help |
| Broadcast an episode or audio programme at a scheduled time, or keep a stream running | A YouTube live broadcast plus an encoder or cloud streaming service | A live audio-video feed sent to the broadcast. The RSS feed itself is not replayed as a live stream. Google for Developers |
RSS is the simpler choice for automatic episode publishing. Use the live workflow when viewers should join an event as it happens. The two workflows can be used for different purposes, but RSS setup alone does not start or schedule a live broadcast.
Set up podcast episode publishing from RSS
YouTube lists India among the locations where RSS feed delivery is available. Availability is based on the channel owner’s location, so check the country setting associated with your channel. See YouTube’s RSS availability locations.
- Open the RSS submission flow. Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create > New podcast > Submit RSS feed.
- Submit and verify the feed. Accept the RSS ingestion terms, enter the podcast feed URL, request a verification code, and enter the code sent to the email address listed in the feed. If you cannot access that address, contact your podcast hosting provider.
- Choose which episodes to import. Select all existing episodes, episodes published since a chosen date, or future episodes only.
- Review visibility and save. Check the visibility settings before submitting. Initial uploads can take a few days; YouTube sends an email when the podcast is ready to publish. YouTube’s RSS setup instructions cover the process.
Know what RSS publishing changes—and does not change
YouTube uses the podcast’s show art to create a static-image video for each selected episode. New feed episodes can then be uploaded automatically. These are episode videos, not a continuous broadcast. If you later add back-catalogue episodes, subscribers are not notified for those additions. After an RSS-uploaded episode is published, you cannot simply update its audio in place: publishing it again from RSS creates a new video and makes the previous one private. Read YouTube’s guidance on publishing or disconnecting RSS episodes.

Make an actual live broadcast from podcast audio
A YouTube live event has two parts: the broadcast viewers watch and the live stream that carries its audio-video feed. You create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio, then configure an encoder or streaming service to send content to the associated stream. YouTube’s API documentation explains broadcasts and streams.
- Prepare the programme. Use the podcast audio you have the rights to broadcast. Because a live stream carries audio and video, pair audio-only material with a visual track such as show art, a waveform, or a branded screen. YouTube’s cited live-stream documentation establishes the audio-video delivery workflow; it does not mandate a particular visual design.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create a live broadcast and obtain its stream settings. Keep the broadcast and stream distinct in your setup: the broadcast is the event, while the stream is the feed that supplies its content. Developers can also create, associate, and manage these resources through YouTube’s Live Streaming API. YouTube Live Streaming API overview.
- Configure the encoder or streaming service. Enter the stream settings in the encoder and send the audio-video feed to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint. YouTube documents RTMPS, HLS, and DASH delivery, with different technical requirements for each. Use the current YouTube-compatible settings for the protocol and encoder you select: RTMPS, HLS, or DASH.
- Check the preview and stream health. Confirm that audio and video reach the Studio preview before the event begins. If delivery is failing or unstable, check the stream status and health information in Studio; YouTube’s API documentation also describes stream health data for diagnosing delivery issues. Broadcast and stream status guidance.
Keep the RSS and live workflows separate
This live workflow sends an encoder-supplied feed to a YouTube broadcast; it does not make YouTube read episodes from the RSS feed and play them live. If the goal is for each new episode to appear on YouTube after publication, use RSS delivery. If the goal is a scheduled or continuous live programme, prepare and send the audio-video feed through the live workflow.

Check rights and publishing policies
- Verify feed ownership. RSS verification depends on access to the email address included in the feed, or assistance from the podcast host.
- Review advertising and promotions. YouTube’s RSS best-practice guidance says RSS-submitted podcast content cannot contain advertisements. It separately says host-read promotions, sponsorships, and endorsements must be disclosed as branded content and comply with applicable policies. Review the current guidance for the publishing route you use: RSS feed delivery.
- Check content rights before publishing or going live. Review the audio, artwork, and any other material for copyright or monetization issues. Having an RSS feed or a live encoder does not establish that you have the rights to broadcast its contents.
