In OBS, enable Loop on a Media Source for one file, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist enabled for an ordered sequence. YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control only repeats playback for viewers.
Choose the right kind of loop
There are two different tasks people describe as looping a YouTube playlist:
- Repeat a playlist while watching YouTube: Use YouTube’s playback controls. This repeats viewer playback and does not change a live broadcast.
- Repeat videos as the source of a YouTube Live broadcast: Configure repetition in OBS or the playback source that feeds the encoder.
The OBS steps below are for local video files used as a live source.
Loop one local video in OBS
- In OBS, select the scene that should contain the video.
- In the Sources panel, click + and add a Media Source.
- Choose the local video file in the source properties.
- Turn on Loop, then apply the settings. OBS documents this option as replaying the file when playback completes. Its Media Source documentation lists formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM: OBS Media Sources.
Use this approach when the live source is a single file. If the source should move through several files in a specific order, use a VLC Video source instead.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Loop several local videos in order
- Install VLC Media Player if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. Match the VLC architecture to OBS: a 64-bit OBS installation requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select the intended scene, click + in Sources, and add VLC Video.
- In the source properties, add the local files to the playlist in the order they should play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS documents that this restarts the source after it has played through its media files; the option is on by default.
- Check the source’s visibility behavior. The documented default is Stop when not visible, restart when visible. If a scene change hides the source, playback may stop and restart when it becomes visible again. Review the Visibility Behaviour setting and test the transitions you plan to use.
See OBS’s instructions for the VLC source and its settings at OBS Media Sources.
How the OBS options differ
| Option | Best for | What to set | Key consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One local video | Enable Loop | OBS repeats the file when playback ends. |
| VLC Video source | Several local videos played in order | Add files to the playlist and enable Loop Playlist | VLC must be installed; check how source visibility affects playback during scene changes. |
Test the stream before leaving it running
A loop setting controls media repetition; it does not guarantee the computer, encoder, network connection, or broadcast will remain available indefinitely. Before relying on the setup, follow OBS’s recommendation to run a short stream test and confirm the sequence and scene transitions behave as intended. OBS’s quick-start guide covers testing a stream: OBS Quick Start Guide.

If you meant looping a playlist while watching YouTube
These are viewer playback controls, not encoder settings. YouTube documents the following methods in its playlist help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
- Desktop: Open a video that belongs to the playlist, expand the playlist panel, and select Loop.
- Android: Play the playlist and use the Loop control in the playlist control box. Tap it again to repeat the current video.
- TV or gaming console: Select the playlist, open playback controls, and set Repeat until it shows Repeat • Playlist.
For a playlist embedded on a web page, YouTube’s IFrame Player API also supports the loop parameter. To loop a single embedded video, its documentation says to set the playlist parameter to that same video’s ID as well as setting loop=1. This applies to embeds, not OBS source playback: YouTube IFrame Player API parameters.

Looping is a playback setting, not permission to broadcast a video. Before streaming, confirm you have the rights to use the media and that the content complies with YouTube’s rules. The loop controls described above do not establish whether a particular video is permitted for a live broadcast.
