If it still causes pain, eye strain, nausea, dizziness, or overheating, pause instead of trying to push through. Accessories can help with a specific fit problem, but they must match your exact headset model.
Adjust the fit before adding accessories
Follow the fitting instructions for your headset; designs differ, so there is no single adjustment method that works for every model. In general, loosen the headset’s adjustments before putting it on, position it so the rear support sits properly, then tighten only enough to keep the display steady during ordinary head movement.

If pressure builds at your forehead, cheeks, or nose, reposition the headset and rebalance its support rather than simply tightening it further. If it slips, check that it is seated correctly and that its strap and facial interface are intended for your device.
Align the lenses to your eyes
If your headset lets you adjust lens spacing or interpupillary distance (IPD), set it to suit the wearer’s eyes. Meta’s comfort guidance, updated December 17, 2025, specifically advises matching IPD to the user’s eyes. A headset can feel physically comfortable and still cause visual strain if the image is not well aligned.

Avoid improvised padding near the lenses, vents, sensors, or cameras. Such changes may interfere with the headset, and there is no general safe DIY padding method established for all models.
Take breaks and respond to discomfort
Pause if you develop pain, eye strain, nausea, dizziness, or feel overheated. A good fit cannot prevent every kind of discomfort: motion sickness can occur when the movement shown in VR does not match the movement your body senses.

Meta Horizon OS Developers’ July 24, 2025 guidance recommends designing VR games for a regular 20–40 minute session zone, with breaks every 10–15 minutes. Those are recommendations for designing experiences, not medically validated limits or a universal safe-use schedule for individual players. Stop sooner if you feel unwell; a scheduled break is not a reason to ignore symptoms.
Meta identifies physical discomfort, eye strain, motion sickness, social isolation, and limited battery life as factors that can constrain session length. Its session-length guidance frames the 20–40 minute zone as a way for developers to avoid encouraging users to continue past their comfort levels.

Consider a compatible strap or facial interface for a specific problem
If careful adjustment does not resolve a particular pressure or fit issue, a replacement head strap or facial interface made for your exact headset may be worth considering. Check the device compatibility and how the accessory changes weight distribution and contact with your face. Also consider its material and cleanability, whether it changes the eye-to-lens position, any added weight or battery impact, and how easily it adjusts. There is no basis here for naming a universally most comfortable brand or accessory.
Quest 2 examples from Meta
In a 2020 Quest 2 product announcement, Meta described optional head straps and facial-interface add-ons intended to improve fit and comfort. It said the Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery offered increased balance and ergonomics and “double the playtime”; that battery statement is Meta’s product claim, not an independent test result. Meta also described the Quest 2 Fit Pack as providing swappable interfaces for wider or narrower face shapes. These examples are specific to Quest 2, and the announcement does not establish current availability or suitability for other headsets.
