The reliable way to make a Sneak’s Pirate Pack server is to download the separate Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip archive, extract it into a clean directory, start the included Forge server bootstrap, accept Minecraft’s EULA, and then have every player install the matching Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW client release on Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. Do not build the server by uploading an ordinary client instance: the server archive and the client pack serve different purposes.

What Sneak’s Pirate Pack is
Sneak’s Pirate Pack is a pirate-themed Minecraft modpack by sneak. Its official CurseForge description says, “All you need to turn Minecraft into a Pirate game, as seen on my YouTube channel!” The pack adds pirate-style armor and weapons, generated structures and world generation, sailable ships, sharks, pirates and other enemies, and treasure.

The project targets Minecraft Java Edition 1.16.5 and the Forge mod loader. The CurseForge project had more than 100,000 downloads when the project information was recorded, but download totals change continuously, so that number should not be treated as a current measurement. The latest listed project update in the supplied information was May 5, 2024.
Use the right server and client files
The most important decision is choosing the dedicated-server archive rather than copying a player installation. CurseForge lists a file named Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip. The listed archive is 160.39 MB and was released May 5, 2024. It is the correct starting point for a self-hosted dedicated server.
#1 Best Overall
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
| Purpose | File or setup | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated server | Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip | Your server computer or server host |
| Player client | Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW | Each player’s Minecraft launcher instance |
| Game version | Minecraft 1.16.5 | Both server and every client |
| Mod loader | Forge | Both server and every client |
| Recorded Forge build for the NEW release | 36.2.34 | Use the build named by the release or hosting panel |
Modpacks.ch records the NEW release as Forge 36.2.34 with 28 mods and specifically warns operators not to upload a normal client folder blindly. Keep the named pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, manifest and overrides aligned. A server can fail to start, reject a connection or behave unpredictably when one of those elements differs.
Check these requirements before installing
- A Minecraft Java Edition installation capable of running version 1.16.5.
- The official Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip archive for a dedicated server.
- A separate client installation of Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW for every player.
- Forge selected on both sides. Record the exact build shown by the pack or host; the NEW release is recorded as Forge 36.2.34.
- A new, empty server directory for the extracted files. Do not mix this pack with another instance’s files.
- Permission to run programs, create files and allow the server through the operating system firewall.
- A backup location for the world before changing the pack, Forge build or mods.
No validated RAM, CPU or maximum-player figure is published for this pack in the available material. Do not promise a particular player capacity from a generic specification. Start with a host appropriate to the number of players and the activity you expect, then monitor resource use while people explore, generate terrain and use ships or structures.

How to install the dedicated server yourself
1. Download the dedicated-server archive
On the pack’s CurseForge files page, choose the file explicitly named Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip. Check the displayed release name and date before downloading. The similarly named client release is not a substitute for the server archive.
2. Create a clean server directory
Create a new folder dedicated to this server, such as a folder named for the pack and release. Keeping the installation isolated makes backups, upgrades and rollback safer. Place the downloaded ZIP in that folder and extract it there. Avoid extracting into an existing vanilla server, a different modpack or a player’s launcher instance.
3. Inspect the extracted files
Open the extracted directory and identify the startup or Forge bootstrap files included by the archive. The archive is packaged for server use, so follow the launch method and file names it provides rather than inventing a new command or copying files from a client installation. If your operating system hides file extensions, enable them so you can distinguish scripts, JAR files, configuration files and folders.
4. Start the pack’s server bootstrap
Run the included Forge/server bootstrap from the extracted directory. Launching it from that directory matters because the server expects its libraries, configuration and world files relative to the installation folder. The first start may create additional files and stop before the world can be used.

5. Accept the Minecraft EULA
When the first launch creates an EULA file, open it, read the license and change the EULA setting only if you agree to it. Save the file and start the included bootstrap again. A server that has not recorded EULA acceptance will normally stop during startup.
6. Wait for a completed startup
Keep the console visible and wait for the server to finish loading rather than connecting immediately after the window appears. A completed startup gives you a clear indication that Forge and the pack have loaded. Keep the first startup log: it is useful if a later change introduces an error.
7. Make basic server changes carefully
Stop the server through its console before editing files or copying a world. If you change a setting in the server configuration, make one change at a time, restart and test. Never replace the pack’s mod, configuration or override folders with those from a different release unless the release instructions explicitly require it.
8. Back up the world before inviting players
After the first successful start, stop the server cleanly and copy the world and important configuration files to a separate backup location. Repeat the backup before any pack or Forge update. A backup made while the server is writing chunks can be incomplete, so use a clean shutdown first.

- Open GDLauncher and create a new instance.
- Select the Forge loader and Minecraft 1.16.5.
- Open the instance’s Addons tab and choose Add Addons.
- Paste the quick-install ID
#sneaks-pirate-pack. - Download the pack and let the launcher resolve its dependencies.
- Launch the instance after installation completes.
GDLauncher identifies Sneak’s Pirate Pack as supporting Minecraft 1.16.5 and Forge. If the launcher presents a different release from the one running on your server, stop and select the server’s named release instead of accepting a merely similar result.
Verify each player’s instance before connecting
- The instance reports Minecraft 1.16.5.
- The loader is Forge, not Fabric or an unmodded profile.
- The displayed pack name and release match the server’s release.
- The launcher has finished downloading dependencies before the player starts the game.
- The player can reach the Minecraft main menu without a mod-loading error.
Test the server on a local network first
Before exposing the server to the internet, connect from another computer on the same local network. This separates mod and server problems from router and firewall problems.
Recommended Free Tools
- Start the dedicated server and wait for its completed startup message.
- Find the server computer’s local network address using your operating system’s network settings.
- From a second computer running the matching client, add a multiplayer server using that local address.
- Join, move around, generate some terrain and verify that the pack’s content loads.
- Stop the server cleanly and inspect the console if the test produces an error.
A successful local connection proves that the pack and loader are broadly aligned. It does not prove that people outside your network can connect; internet access requires firewall and router configuration.
Let friends connect over the internet
Once the local test works, configure the server computer’s firewall to allow the server program and configure your router to forward the server’s listening port to that computer. Use the port shown in the server’s own configuration rather than assuming a value from another installation. Your friends then use your public address and that port in their multiplayer client.
- Give the server computer a stable local address, or create a router reservation, so forwarding does not point to a different device later.
- Allow the server through the operating-system firewall on the network profile you actually use.
- Forward only the port required by the server; do not expose unrelated administration services.
- Test from a connection outside your home network. Testing only from inside can succeed even when external forwarding is wrong.
- Do not publish your public address in an open forum. Share it only with the people you intend to invite.
If local players can join but outside players cannot, recheck the firewall rule, router destination, public address and whether your internet provider places you behind carrier-grade NAT. Those are networking issues, not evidence that the modpack is missing.
Managed hosting instead of self-hosting
A managed host can remove much of the extraction, startup and networking work, but you still need to select the exact pack release and keep client versions aligned. The documented workflows differ by provider.

| Provider workflow documented for the pack | What you do | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| VeryGames | Create a new installation, select Sneak’s Pirate Pack and its version, then create the server. | The listed build is Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW for Minecraft 1.16.5-Forge 36.2.34. |
| MTXServ | Open Version/Modpacks, select the pack, install the latest version and restart. | MTXServ says backups are performed automatically before updates; confirm the current policy for your plan. |
| BoxToPlay | Select the pack version, check out a Minecraft plan and receive a server with the selected pack installed during setup. | Confirm the exact release and Forge build presented during ordering. |
Managed hosting generally gives you a control panel and automated installation, while self-hosting gives you direct filesystem and configuration control. With a host, compare the current monthly price, player-slot policy, CPU and RAM allocation, storage, backup retention and geographic location before buying. Those prices and limits are not fixed here and can change.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Self-hosting | Managed hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Direct access to files, logs, worlds and configuration. | Control-panel access; filesystem access depends on the plan. |
| Initial setup | Extract the archive, run the bootstrap, accept the EULA, configure firewall and router, and create backups. | Panel-driven installation automates much of the pack setup. |
| Networking | You are responsible for firewall and router forwarding. | The provider supplies the reachable server endpoint. |
| Maintenance | You schedule updates and make your own backups. | Update workflows are documented by the provider; MTXServ documents automatic pre-update backups. |
| Capacity planning | Limited by your hardware, connection and electricity. | Depends on the plan’s published CPU, RAM, storage and slot limits. |
| Best fit | Owners who want maximum control and are comfortable troubleshooting networks and files. | Groups that prefer a panel and do not want to maintain the underlying machine. |
Version matching: the checklist that prevents most failures
Most avoidable connection problems come from one side being on a different release. Record the server’s details in your group chat or a small text file and have players compare their launcher before they troubleshoot anything else.
- Minecraft: 1.16.5 on the server and every client.
- Loader: Forge on both sides.
- Forge build: use the build named by the release or host; the NEW release is recorded as 36.2.34.
- Pack release: use the same named client release, preferably Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW when that is the server’s release.
- Server package: the server must originate from Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip, not a copied client folder.
- Files: keep the release’s manifest and overrides together; do not merge folders from unrelated versions.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The server closes immediately
Confirm that you extracted the entire SERVER.zip archive, launched the included bootstrap from the extracted directory and completed the EULA step. Read the final lines of the console for the first error rather than focusing on later cascade messages. If the bootstrap expects a particular file in the same directory, moving it or launching it from another working directory can cause failure.

Compare the client’s pack name, release, Minecraft version and Forge build with the server record. Reinstall the matching NEW release if the launcher resolved a different version. Do not fix a mismatch by dragging individual JAR files from another pack: that can create a second, harder-to-diagnose mismatch.
The client reaches the server but disconnects during loading
Check that both sides use the same manifest and overrides and that the server was built from the dedicated archive. If the server was updated, restore the pre-update backup and test the previous known-good release before attempting another change.
Players on the same network cannot connect
Verify that the server completed startup, use the server computer’s local address, and check the operating-system firewall. A local failure is not fixed by changing router forwarding; first establish that one machine can serve another on the same network.

The world becomes slow as more people play
The available pack information does not establish a universal RAM requirement or player limit. Watch the host’s CPU, memory, storage activity and network use while players explore and generate new terrain. If the host is saturated, reduce simultaneous activity, move the server to stronger hardware or choose a managed plan with more allocated resources. Make a world backup before changing versions or migrating the server.
Updating without losing the world
- Tell players to stop joining and stop the server cleanly.
- Copy the world and important configuration files to a dated backup location.
- Record the current pack release and Forge build.
- Install the new release in a separate directory when possible, rather than overwriting the known-good installation.
- Apply the new release’s server archive and start it once without players.
- Test a copy of the world first. If the world loads correctly, move the backup-tested world into production according to the pack’s file layout.
- Give every player the same client release before reopening the server.
If an update fails, stop the server and restore the backup rather than repeatedly starting it against the same world. A separate installation makes rollback straightforward and preserves the previous logs for comparison.
A practical launch sequence for a small group
- Choose self-hosting or a managed panel.
- Write down Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge and the exact pack release.
- Download Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip for a self-hosted installation, or select the matching release in the host’s installer.
- Install Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW for one test player.
- Start the server, accept the EULA and wait for a completed startup.
- Connect locally and test movement, terrain generation and several pack features.
- Back up the clean world.
- Install the matching client release for the rest of the group.
- Configure external networking only after the local test succeeds.
- Monitor resource use during the first real session and adjust hosting capacity based on observed activity.
Following this order makes each failure easier to identify: pack files first, then loader and release matching, then the server process, then local networking, and finally internet access.
The Bottom Line
Use Sneak’s Pirate Pack SERVER.zip for the dedicated server and Sneak’s Pirate Pack NEW on every player client. Keep Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge, the pack release, manifest and overrides identical, test locally before opening internet access, and back up the world before every update.
