Then use safe mode to see whether a downloaded app is involved. These steps can address common software and storage causes, but they cannot guarantee the phone will perform exactly as it did when new. Android settings and safe-mode steps vary by manufacturer and version.
Why is your Android phone so slow?
A slowdown can come from software, low available storage, or a downloaded app. If the problem happens only while loading websites or online content, check the network connection first; a weak connection can make internet tasks feel slow even when the phone itself is responding normally. Google’s general troubleshooting guide covers Android devices, while Pixel-specific instructions may differ from other manufacturers’ menus and restart methods.

Start with a restart and updates
- Restart the phone. Use its normal power menu. Button combinations differ across models; for a Pixel, use the instructions for your model in Google’s Pixel slow-phone guide.
- Check for an Android system update. Open Settings and look for the system update option; its label and location can vary by phone.
- Check app updates. Open Google Play’s app-management screen and review available updates. The exact screen labels may change.
After each step, restart and check whether the same slowdown remains. This makes it easier to tell whether a change helped.
Check storage and free space carefully
Open Settings → Storage to see how much space is available. Google Android Help says, “Your phone can start having issues when less than 10% of storage is free.” This is Google’s troubleshooting threshold, not a guarantee that every phone will slow down at that point.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

If space is low, remove files or apps you no longer need, or move files elsewhere. On Pixel phones, Google distinguishes storage—where items such as photos and music are kept—from memory, which programs use while running. See Google’s Pixel instructions for freeing space for device-specific guidance.
Know the difference between clearing cache and clearing app storage
- Clear cache: removes temporary data. An app may take longer to open the next time while it rebuilds that data.
- Clear app storage: permanently deletes that app’s data from the phone. Do not use it casually; check whether you need the app’s local files, settings, or sign-in information first.
Use safe mode to check for a downloaded app
Safe mode temporarily turns off downloaded apps. If the phone responds better there, a downloaded app is a likely cause. Safe-mode entry varies by manufacturer, so follow your phone maker’s support instructions if the generic steps in Google’s Android troubleshooting guide do not match your device.

- Restart and check after each removal to identify whether the slowdown changes.
Consider a factory reset only after simpler steps fail
A factory data reset is an advanced step: it removes data from the phone and uninstalls apps and their associated data. Back up first, and verify that important app-specific information is saved. Google’s backup can include apps and app data, call history, contacts, device settings, and SMS/MMS, but not every app backs up or restores all of its data. Photos and videos are backed up through Google Photos when you use that service. Google describes backup and restore at Back up or restore data on your Android device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRestoration generally takes place during setup after the reset. A backup from a higher Android version cannot be restored onto a phone running a lower Android version. If you reinstall the app that caused the problem, the slowdown may return.

Contact the manufacturer or carrier if the phone is still slow
If restarting, updating, checking storage, and testing apps do not solve the problem, contact the phone’s manufacturer or carrier for model-specific troubleshooting or service options. Generic cleaner apps are not an established fix in Google’s guidance.
One Pixel-specific service option is Repair Mode. Google says it is available on eligible Pixel phones running Android 14 with the December 2023 update or higher and at least 2 GB of free space. It starts a clean Android OS in a secure dedicated partition for technicians, which can allow service without a factory reset. This feature is specific to eligible Pixel phones, not a general Android setting; details are in Google’s Repair Mode guide.
