You can make a sleep music livestream with OBS by preparing music and a visual, creating a broadcast in YouTube Studio, connecting OBS with the stream key, and testing the full setup before going live. The main risk is music rights: YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and even licensed music may need the rights holder to allowlist your channel.
1. Check that your channel can livestream
Before building the scene, verify your YouTube channel and check that it has no livestream restrictions from the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. If verification or an eligibility issue is pending, resolve it before scheduling the broadcast. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, which is the route used with OBS. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance has the current requirements.
The YouTube setup guidance reviewed does not specify a separate OBS configuration for India. Use the same eligibility and encoder setup, and check that any music permission covers the territory in which you intend to stream. This is not a determination of how Indian copyright law applies to a particular recording or license.
2. Choose music you can actually use live
Use music you created or recorded, music you have verified is in the public domain, or third-party music whose written license explicitly permits YouTube livestreaming. If you plan to monetize, confirm that commercial use is also allowed for every audio and visual element. Check territory, attribution requirements, and any limits on live or continuous use, and keep the license terms available.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
“Free” and “royalty-free” labels do not, by themselves, establish permission for a commercial livestream. YouTube recommends its Audio Library; check the individual track’s terms, including any attribution requirement. Creator Music is not a route for this use: YouTube says its licensed tracks are limited to long-form videos and cannot be used in livestreams or Shorts. See YouTube’s tips for finding safe music and Creator Music usage details.
Two practical rights paths
| Music source | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Your own original recording or verified public-domain music | Confirm you control the recording and composition, or can substantiate the public-domain status. Do not assume a recording is public domain just because the underlying composition is old. |
| Third-party licensed music | Confirm the license explicitly covers livestreaming, the intended territory, and commercial use if applicable. Check attribution and Content ID handling; the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel. |
3. Build a simple OBS scene
For a sleep music stream, a scene can contain a prepared music source and a still image or original animation. YouTube does not mandate a particular scene design. Keep the visual and audio within the rights you have cleared, and check that the music is audible without being captured twice.

- Open OBS and create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the music file or other prepared audio source as a media source. If you also capture desktop audio, check the mixer so the same music is not doubled.
- Add a still image or original animation as the visual source, and arrange it to fill the output canvas.
- Play the scene and watch the OBS audio meter. Confirm the music is audible and not clipping, and that the image or animation appears as intended.
OBS’s audio/video guide discusses formats and codecs, but its recording-container guidance should not be mistaken for a YouTube live-ingest requirement. OBS Audio/Video Formats Guide.
4. Create the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast. Current interface labels can change, so follow the on-screen encoder connection instructions.
- In OBS, connect through YouTube integration if offered, or enter the encoder connection details from YouTube Studio.
- Copy the stream key into OBS only through the intended private settings field. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Do not share it publicly.
- Confirm the selected broadcast and OBS are connected, then wait for the YouTube preview before starting the public stream.
YouTube’s encoder setup and connection options are described in its live encoder guidance.

5. Set a stable output and test it
Choose resolution and bitrate according to what your computer and upload connection can sustain consistently. YouTube’s encoder recommendations include H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, RTMPS, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds). Use YouTube’s current encoder table for bitrate values appropriate to your chosen resolution and frame rate; there is no single setting established as best for every Indian connection.
- In OBS output and video settings, select a resolution and frame rate your computer can encode steadily, then set a bitrate suited to that output and your tested upload capacity.
- Use H.264 video encoding and CBR. Set the keyframe interval to two seconds, keeping it at or below YouTube’s four-second maximum.
- Use AAC or MP3 for audio and connect using RTMPS where supported by the encoder setup.
- Run a private or unlisted test using audio and motion similar to the intended stream. A test with a static screen alone may not reveal problems that appear during the real broadcast.
- Check the YouTube preview, audio, and stream-health messages. If the connection or encoding is unstable, reduce the output demand and test again.
Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current recommendations. The right bitrate depends on output settings and the connection; test the actual route rather than assuming a speed result guarantees a stable stream.

6. Go live and monitor the broadcast
Before starting, check the YouTube preview and listen for clean audio. Once live, watch OBS’s audio meter and YouTube Studio’s stream-health messages. If YouTube flags third-party content, stop or replace the matched music promptly and review the warning or restriction in Studio.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Copyright claims, interruptions, and monetization
YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder; if matched content continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A copyright strike can also stop a stream. A successful test does not establish that the music is cleared: rights can be enforced later. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams explains the process.

A license and Content ID allowlisting are separate. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel. Without that platform-side step, a stream may still be interrupted even when you hold a license. Keep written permission and any allowlist confirmation.
Rights clearance also does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program monetization. YouTube requires commercial rights for third-party material, and evaluates originality and repetitive or inauthentic content at the channel level. A static visual with a long music loop is not automatically eligible just because the music is licensed. See YouTube channel monetization policies and what content can be monetized.
Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube does not accept the stream key: Check that OBS is using the key and server details for the broadcast currently open in Live Control Room. Keep the key private, and refresh or replace it in Studio if you suspect it was exposed.
- The stream connects but the preview is missing or unstable: Confirm OBS is sending the intended scene and that the computer and connection can sustain the chosen output. Lower the resolution or bitrate and repeat a representative test.
- The music is silent or too loud: Check the OBS mixer, the source’s playback, and the audio meter. If both an application source and desktop audio capture the same playback, disable one to prevent doubling.
- YouTube reports a copyright match: Stop or replace the track and review the Studio notice. Check the license’s live-use and territory scope, then contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if the track is licensed.
- A claim appears after a test or broadcast: A clean test is not proof of clearance. Review the claim and your documentation; confirm that the license covers the actual live use and that any required allowlisting has been completed.
- The stream is not monetized despite cleared music: Verify commercial rights for every asset, then assess the channel’s originality and repetitive-content suitability. Music permission alone does not satisfy channel-level monetization requirements.
