How to Make a Personalized Concert Playlist From a Tour Setlist

Turn a reported concert setlist into a playlist: verify the show and songs, choose live order or a personal edit, then build and label it clearly.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To make a concert playlist, start with a reported setlist for the show you attended—or a recent, representative tour date if you are preparing for an upcoming concert. Check the song titles and versions, decide whether to preserve the reported order, then add and arrange the tracks in your music service or use a setlist-to-playlist tool. Label the result clearly as a show replay, tour preview, or fan-edited mix: one night’s setlist is a snapshot, not a guarantee of what the band will play next.

Choose what you want the playlist to do

Your goal determines which setlist to use and how closely to follow it. Before searching, decide whether you want to prepare for a future show, remember a particular performance, or make a mix that borrows from a tour. That decision affects both the source date you choose and how much freedom you give yourself to change the order.

  • Prepare for an upcoming concert: Use one or more recent setlists from the same tour to learn songs the artist has been performing. Treat them as a guide to likely material, not a promise about the next show.
  • Recreate a concert you attended: Find the report for the specific date and venue, then preserve its sequence if you want to relive the performance’s arc.
  • Make a flexible listening mix: Keep the songs you want, remove the rest, and arrange them for your own listening rather than claiming the playlist is a complete record of the show.

Tour setlists can change from night to night. Apple Music for Artists advises artists creating a tour Set List to choose the track listing that best captures the tour when performances differ. That is useful guidance for a fan-made tour sampler too: either identify one reported date or say that the playlist represents the tour rather than a definitive set.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Think of “reported” as an important qualifier, not a warning that the playlist is useless. A specific report can be a good record of one show, while a tour preview is necessarily an estimate based on comparable performances. Avoid describing a prior date as the confirmed set for a future date. If several recent shows differ, you can make that variation visible by choosing one representative listing, or by building a sampler from recurring songs and labeling it as your own selection.

Find a recent setlist and check its details

Search for the artist, tour, venue, and date when possible. A specific show report is the best starting point for a concert replay; for a preview, compare recent reports from the current tour so that one unusual night does not define your expectations. Concert Ready describes both selecting likely songs informed by comparable performances and choosing one reported show.

Setlist.fm is a community-submitted setlist source. Its setlist editing tutorial explains that contributors add songs line by line, leave blank lines before encores, mark covers, and provide a source when submitting a setlist. Those details help you interpret an entry, but do not make every report automatically authoritative. For a recent or unusual show, check the list against a reliable report from the venue, artist, or another credible show source when available.

  • Confirm that the artist, venue, and date match the show you mean.
  • Notice whether the listing separates an encore or includes an intro, outro, medley, or other nonstandard entry.
  • Look for cover labels and verify whether the title refers to the original song or a different track with the same name.
  • For a tour preview, compare more than one recent date if setlists are changing.

When comparing dates, focus on whether the same songs recur, not only on whether the complete lists match. You can make a tour-preview playlist from likely or recurring songs, but prior reports do not establish that any particular next performance will follow them. A single unusual event, a missing report detail, or a change between nights can make one listing a poor stand-in for the whole tour.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep track of what your source actually represents. If you attended a show, the exact date and venue make the playlist easier to identify later. If you are preparing for a show, use a recent date from the same tour when possible and retain the date in your notes or playlist description. That small bit of context prevents a listener from mistaking a fan-made estimate for a setlist confirmed by the artist.

Match each song to the right recording

Search the title together with the artist, then check the result before adding it. A cover can appear under the original songwriter’s title, and similar or identical titles can lead to the wrong recording. If the purpose is to hear the songs before the show, studio versions are often straightforward choices. If you want to recreate the live sound, look for an official live recording and confirm that it is the intended song; availability depends on the artist’s catalog and your service.

Some setlist entries may be intros, outros, medleys, or other performance elements rather than separately available songs. Do not silently substitute a different track just to fill a playlist slot. You can omit an unavailable or uncertain item, or add a note in the playlist description that the recording could not be matched.

Make the version choice deliberately. For a pre-show playlist, a familiar studio recording may be easiest for learning a song. For a show replay, an official live version can better evoke the performance if it exists in your service’s catalog, but it is still a substitute recording—not proof that the exact concert performance is available. The cited sources do not establish availability for a specific artist, track, service, or territory, so confirm the result in your own catalog rather than assuming a match will appear.

For covers, check both the title and the performing artist shown in the result. The setlist entry may identify a cover, while a search may return the original recording first. Add the version you intend to hear and avoid treating a search result with a matching title as automatically correct. If a setlist item is a medley or a short intro with no clear catalog equivalent, it is reasonable to leave it out rather than add an unrelated track.

Pick a creation method

There are two broad routes for a listener: add tracks manually, or use a tool that starts from a setlist or suggested song selection. Manual entry offers direct control over every match and the order. A tool can reduce searching, but you still need to review what it selects. The right choice depends on how much control you want, whether you have one show in mind or a tour preview, and where you want the finished playlist to live.

Method Input and control Destination stated by the source Best fit
Manual creation You search for every track and control the matches and order yourself. Your chosen music service or library. A show replay where you want to verify each recording and preserve the sequence.
Setlist Concert Its App Store listing says it creates playlists from a selected setlist; check the matches before saving. Apple Music, Spotify, or a local library, according to its App Store listing. Starting from a specific reported setlist with less manual track entry.
Concert Ready Browse likely songs or select a reported show, review the selections, then connect a service to save. Apple Music or Spotify, according to Concert Ready’s setlist page. A tour preview or a playlist based on one show when you want to review the song selection first.
Apple Music for Artists Set List An artist or team member selects a concert, tour, or residency, adds an event, searches for performed tracks, arranges them, and publishes. Apple Music. An artist-facing official Set List, not a general fan playlist generator.

The comparison is about workflow, not a claim that one method is universally better. Manual creation has the most transparent track-by-track review, while conversion and song-selection workflows may reduce manual entry. A tool’s stated ability to create or save a playlist does not establish that every suggested match is correct. The destinations listed above are the ones described by the cited listings; check their current details before relying on a particular destination or feature.

The feature descriptions for Setlist Concert and Concert Ready come from their own listings or service page; they do not establish guaranteed matching accuracy or endorsement by a music service or setlist.fm. If exact track identity matters, inspect the selection before saving. The sources do not provide a comparative accuracy test, a universal price, or confirmed affiliate availability for these options, so do not assume a tool is free, paid, endorsed, or available in every territory without checking its current terms.

Manual: add and arrange tracks yourself

  1. In your music service, create a new playlist and give it a temporary descriptive name.
  2. Search for each setlist entry by title and artist. Confirm the recording is the right song and version before adding it.
  3. Add songs in the reported sequence, or add them first and use the service’s move or drag controls to arrange them afterward.
  4. Compare the finished track order against the setlist, including any encore break you want to preserve.

Exact menu labels and controls differ by service and app version, so use the playlist’s own add and reorder controls rather than assuming a universal UI path.

A deliberate pass through the list is useful even if you add songs in order. Check off each source entry as you find a match, then compare the finished playlist with the source from top to bottom. This catches accidental omissions, duplicate tracks, and a track that landed in the wrong position. If an encore is separated in the report, you can preserve that break in the order even if the music service does not provide a special encore marker.

For a personal playlist, you do not need to reproduce every reported element. Make the edit visible in the name or description: for example, distinguish a complete reported setlist from a “show replay — selected tracks.” If your service allows a description, it can note the source date and any songs you could not match. This is particularly helpful when the playlist is shared or revisited long after the concert.

Assisted: convert or review a suggested selection

  1. Choose a specific reported show or the likely-song option, depending on whether the playlist is a replay or a preview.
  2. Review the selected tracks for wrong artists, covers, duplicate titles, and mismatched versions.
  3. Connect the destination service if the workflow requests it, then save the playlist and inspect its final order.

The available destination and exact steps depend on the tool and its current listing. A conversion can save entry time, but the review step remains important because the cited sources do not establish that every match will be correct.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the review screen as an editorial checkpoint rather than a formality. A selected track may have the right title but the wrong performer, or may be a studio version when you meant to use an official live recording. Verify that the number and order of saved tracks make sense against the source, especially where the listing includes covers, encores, intros, or unusual entries. If you cannot verify one, remove it or make the uncertainty clear instead of presenting the conversion as exact.

Artist-facing: publish an official Apple Set List

Apple Music for Artists has a separate publishing workflow intended for an artist or authorized team member. The instructions in Apple Music for Artists’ Set Lists guide require selecting a concert, tour, or residency, adding an event, setting a publish date at least one day in the future, searching for and ordering tracks performed, and publishing. Apple says the playlist can contain only tracks performed at that show or tour and limits publication to five Set List playlists per calendar year. This is not the route for a fan to generate a personal playlist from a setlist.

That distinction matters because an official artist Set List and a listener playlist have different purposes and requirements. The artist-facing workflow is tied to an event and publication schedule; its tracks must have been performed at the show or tour. A fan can make a preview, leave out songs, select a different version, or edit the order, but should label those choices honestly. The official feature is not a generic import button for a fan’s chosen setlist.

Apple’s September 29, 2025 article, “Build excitement for your tour with Set Lists”, presents the artist-facing feature as a way to connect a tour to its songs. It quotes Scott Borchetta, chair of Big Machine Label Group, describing the Riley Green Set List as a playlist source that lets fans hear songs from his catalog in the order they are performed live on tour. That comment is an industry testimonial carried by Apple, not independent testing of fan playlist tools or a promise about what a listener’s next show will include.

Personalize the playlist without mislabeling it

Once the core tracks are in place, decide whether you are documenting a reported performance or making a playlist inspired by it. Keeping the order helps retain the show’s pacing; changing it makes the playlist more personal but less like a replay of the concert.

  • For a show replay, keep the reported order and identify the date and venue in the title or description.
  • For a tour preview, combine songs that recur across multiple recent reports, but describe it as a sampler rather than a confirmed future setlist.
  • For a personal mix, remove songs you do not want or substitute an official live version when one is available and is the recording you want.
  • If you omit an intro, unavailable song, or uncertain match, avoid presenting the result as a complete setlist.

A clear title can include the artist, tour, date or city, and playlist type. For example: “Artist — Tour Name — City, 12 Oct 2026 — Reported Setlist” or “Artist — Tour Name — Preview Sampler.” Use “fan-edited” or similar wording if you have changed the order or selection substantially.

For a tour preview, you can choose a method that matches your appetite for uncertainty. A single reported show is simple and concrete: it gives the playlist a clear source, but it may include songs that do not recur. Comparing several recent reports lets you create a broader sampler, but that playlist is your synthesis rather than a copy of one performance. In either case, describe the input and the purpose, rather than implying that the playlist predicts the setlist.

For a replay, preserving order is the main way to keep the performance’s arc. The reported sequence can capture how a show moved from one song to another and where an encore was separated. If you reorder tracks for everyday listening, that is a valid personal choice, but the result is better described as a mix inspired by the show. Similarly, replacing studio tracks with official live versions can change the sound without changing the source list; explain that choice if the distinction matters to you.

Keep names short enough to scan but specific enough to identify later. Artist plus tour and date is often more useful than a generic title such as “Concert playlist.” If the playlist is a representative tour set rather than a particular date, say so. If it is incomplete, edited, or built from several nights, a label such as “preview sampler,” “selected tracks,” or “fan-edited” gives listeners an accurate expectation.

Share it with the right expectations

Use your music service’s sharing controls if you want others to hear the playlist. The controls, public-playlist options, and availability can vary by service and territory, so check the settings shown in your account rather than assuming every playlist can be shared in the same way. Apple describes artists sharing official Set List playlists through Apple Music and social media, but that does not establish identical sharing behavior for every listener-created playlist.

If you share a tour preview, include the word “preview” or “sampler” in the title or description. If you share a concert replay, include the date and venue where possible. Those labels explain the source and limit confusion when a later show has a different set. A playlist link also does not guarantee that every recipient can play every track: the cited sources do not establish availability for every service, account, or territory.

Apple’s September 29, 2025 article reports 2x deeper engagement than an artist’s latest album, 3.5x deeper engagement than catalog albums, and a 500% spike in plays on concert day for Apple’s Set List playlists. These are Apple’s vendor-reported promotional comparisons; the cited article does not provide detailed methodology or sample size in the available text. They describe Apple’s artist-published playlists, not fan-made playlists, and should not be used to predict how many people will play or finish a personal playlist.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no independent statistic in the available information about fan-made playlist accuracy, completion, or benefit. The relevant lesson is practical rather than numerical: choose a source that fits your goal, check the matches, and tell listeners whether the result is a reported show, a representative tour set, or your own edit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make a playlist from a setlist.fm setlist?

Yes. You can search for each song and add it manually, or use a tool whose listing says it can create a playlist from a selected setlist. setlist.fm is community-submitted, so check the date, venue, song identities, covers, and unusual entries before treating a listing as definitive.

How do I make a playlist for an upcoming concert?

Choose recent reports from the same tour and compare them if the set changes between nights. You can use likely songs informed by comparable shows or start from one reported show, then label the result as a tour preview or sampler—not a confirmed future setlist.

Should I keep the songs in the reported order?

Keep the order if your goal is to recreate a particular performance and preserve its pacing. For a preview or personal listening mix, you can reorder or remove tracks, but call it a sampler or fan-edited mix rather than a complete show replay.

Are conversion apps guaranteed to match every song correctly?

No guarantee is established by the available sources. Setlist Concert and Concert Ready describe playlist creation or song-selection workflows, but there is no independent accuracy test in the available information. Review artists, covers, versions, duplicates, and final order before saving.

Can I publish an official Apple Set List as a fan?

Apple Music for Artists’ Set List workflow is intended for an artist or team member, not as a general fan playlist generator. It requires an event, a publish date at least one day in the future, tracks performed at the show or tour, and publication; Apple limits it to five Set List playlists per calendar year.

Can I use live recordings instead of studio versions?

Yes, if the official live recording you want is available in your service’s catalog. Check that it is the right song and version. The cited sources do not establish availability for any particular artist, track, service, or territory.

How much do setlist-to-playlist tools cost?

The cited sources do not establish current pricing for the cited tools or services. Check the app listing or service terms directly before relying on a feature or assuming it is free or paid.

The Bottom Line

Start with a reported setlist that matches your purpose: the exact show for a replay, or recent comparable shows for a preview. Verify the song identities and versions, choose whether to preserve the live order, then build manually or review a tool’s selections before saving. Label the playlist as a reported setlist, tour sampler, or fan edit so it does not promise more than its source can support.
