The best settings to try first are the ones that address what is making play uncomfortable: check camera and video options for field of view, motion blur, screen shake, or camera sway, then check controls for remapping, sensitivity, and toggle-or-hold choices. What you can change depends on the specific game, edition, platform, and update; no single first-person Soulslike or set of default values is specified here.
Which settings should you check first?
Open the game’s settings and accessibility menu, then look for the options below. Menu labels and availability vary, so treat these as things to search for—not features guaranteed to exist in every game. If an option is absent, the game may not offer it on your edition or platform.

- Camera and video: field of view (FOV), motion blur, screen shake, camera stabilization, sway, or similar motion effects.
- Controls: button or key remapping, sensitivity, and options that let you choose between holding and toggling an input.
There is no universal FOV or sensitivity value established for first-person Soulslikes. Start with the setting that seems most relevant to your difficulty, and assess it in actual play rather than assuming a particular adjustment will suit everyone.

FOV changes how much of the scene is visible at once. Bethesda’s official Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Accessibility Guide says a wider FOV shows more of the scene but may cost performance. It also describes wider FOV as a possible help for some players who feel discomfort at lower FOV, while noting that a narrower view may reduce a fishbowl effect and feel more comfortable to some viewers. These are explanations for that game, not a recommended setting or guaranteed result for another title.

Motion blur, screen shake, stabilization, and sway are other options worth checking if they appear in your game. The same Bethesda guide documents motion-blur intensity choices, camera stabilization, and a screen-shake toggle. PlayStation’s God of War Ragnarök accessibility page lists camera shake, motion blur, camera sway, and camera rotation-speed options. These examples show how game makers may group camera and motion choices; neither page establishes what an unnamed Soulslike includes.
For a first-person combat comparison, Electronic Arts describes Immortals of Aveum as a first-person combat game and provides a game-specific accessibility resource. That makes it a relevant example of the genre perspective, not evidence that it is a Soulslike or that its settings are present in your game.

How should you adjust controls?
If the game offers remapping, inspect its actual bindings and remapping limits. You may be able to assign actions to inputs that feel easier to reach or use, but available sources do not establish that any particular game lets you remap every action or combine actions. Do not assume a layout from another game will transfer: controls and remapping support can differ by game and platform.
Also check for sensitivity and hold-or-toggle options if those would help you. Change only an option the game actually exposes, and keep a record of the previous setting if you may want to undo the change.

How can you test changes without guessing?
- Identify the friction point. Notice whether discomfort or difficulty seems tied to the camera, motion effects, or a control input.
- Find the matching menu option. Check the game’s own camera, video, controls, and accessibility menus. Do not rely on paths or defaults from a different title.
- Change one setting at a time. A single adjustment makes it easier to tell what feels different; this is practical guidance, not a guaranteed or medically established intervention.
- Try it during representative play. Use a situation where you regularly notice the issue, then keep or revert the change based on your own experience.
- Repeat only if needed. If the game provides no relevant setting—or the adjustment does not help—avoid forcing a change that makes play less comfortable.
