A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To loop a church video on YouTube Live, play the local file through OBS Studio and enable looping. For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source and turn on Loop Playlist. An .srt subtitle file needs separate attention: OBS’s documentation does not confirm that it automatically loads an SRT sidecar, and YouTube does not accept a plain SRT file as a direct live-caption feed. For words every viewer can see, render subtitles onto the video before streaming; for selectable captions, use a compatible live-caption delivery workflow and test it.
Choose how viewers should see the subtitles
There are two different outcomes: subtitles burned into the picture are visible to everyone watching, while closed captions are a separate track viewers may be able to turn on or off. The right setup depends on which outcome the church needs.

For visible words on every screen: render open captions
Use a video editor to render the SRT subtitles into the picture, then use that captioned video in OBS. The text becomes part of the image, not a selectable caption track. Check that the subtitles are legible on a phone, appear at the right times, and remain in sync through the beginning, middle, and end of each video.

For selectable live captions: use a supported caption path
YouTube says captions must be sent to the live stream. Its documented options include captions embedded as EIA 608/CEA 708 or compatible software that sends captions over HTTP POST. YouTube’s guide says it currently supports one caption track. The guide does not establish that an OBS scene can send a separate SRT sidecar directly as live captions, so do not assume adding an SRT file to the video will create a selectable YouTube caption track. See YouTube’s live-caption requirements.

Prepare and check the church’s video files
- Match each video to its subtitle file. Confirm which
.srtbelongs to each video and that the video plays with the intended audio. - Check subtitle timing. Spot-check the beginning, middle, and end of each file. Correct timing or legibility problems before a long stream.
- Decide whether the subtitle track is embedded or separate. An SRT sidecar is separate from the picture. OBS’s VLC Video source includes subtitle controls, but OBS’s documentation does not say that it automatically detects a separate SRT sidecar. Test the exact files in the installed setup rather than relying on an assumed naming convention.
- Keep the final playback files together. Use stable local file paths for the video and any related files so a moved or renamed file does not break the scene.
Set up a repeating video or playlist in OBS
OBS documents looping for a single Media Source and playlist playback with its VLC Video source. The VLC source requires VLC to be installed; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources guide for the source controls.
Loop one video with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene that will carry the stream.
- Under Sources, select + and add Media Source.
- Give the source a recognizable name, then choose the local video file.
- Enable Loop in the source properties. Confirm the video restarts after reaching the end.
- If you prepared an open-caption version, select that rendered video file. If you are relying on a separate SRT, verify its behavior in the actual OBS installation; looping the video alone does not establish that the sidecar is loaded or synchronized.
Loop several videos with VLC Video
- Install VLC with the same architecture as OBS: for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- In the selected scene, choose Sources > + > VLC Video.
- Add the video files to the source playlist in the sequence the church wants.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle off if the order matters.
- If the media exposes a subtitle track, use the source’s Subtitles Enabled checkbox and Subtitle Track selector. Test the exact video and SRT combination: the documented controls do not guarantee that an external SRT sidecar will be found automatically.
- Watch a full transition between clips and verify picture, audio, subtitle timing, and the next clip’s playback.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
A looping scene only handles local playback; it does not by itself start or maintain a YouTube broadcast. The channel must be eligible, and OBS must send the output to YouTube’s live ingest.

- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements before planning the service.
- Create or schedule the live event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow and copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a password; do not share it publicly.
- Prefer RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingest. Follow the current YouTube encoder setup instructions and encoder settings guidance for the event and encoder.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting publicly. Confirm the correct scene, sound, subtitles, framing, and destination are appearing as intended.
Test before relying on the stream
Run an unlisted or private test before a service or scheduled broadcast. YouTube advises testing with similar audio and movement to the intended stream, checking the preview, and monitoring stream health and messages while live. Its live-streaming tips also recommend advance setup and checking watch-page and archive behavior.
- Confirm that the captioned words are visible or that the chosen closed-caption path is working as intended.
- Listen for silence, clipping, or unexpected audio when one clip ends and another begins.
- Check aspect ratio, scene framing, and that no desktop notifications or unrelated windows are exposed.
- Verify the YouTube watch page can be opened by the intended audience and check the archive setting for the event.
- Monitor OBS and YouTube’s live health messages during the test; a successful local loop is not proof of a continuous, unattended broadcast.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Video ends instead of repeating | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source, or playlist looping is not enabled. | Check the source properties and test playback through a complete cycle. |
| Video plays but SRT text does not appear | The SRT may be an external sidecar that the source did not load, or the wrong subtitle track is selected. | Use a rendered open-caption video for guaranteed visible text, or verify the subtitle controls and exact files locally. |
| Captions are visible in OBS but not selectable on YouTube | Text rendered into the picture is open captions, not a separate live caption track. | Use a supported EIA 608/CEA 708 embedded or HTTP caption-software workflow for selectable live captions, then test it. |
| Playlist order changes or clips are skipped | Shuffle may be enabled, file paths may have changed, or a file may not play correctly. | Disable shuffle when order matters; check each file path and play every item in sequence. |
| YouTube receives no signal | The stream key or URL may be wrong, the event may not be ready, or the channel may not be eligible. | Recheck the event’s encoder details, confirm eligibility, and inspect OBS and Live Control Room status. |
| The broadcast stops when the church computer is turned off | OBS is running on that computer, so shutting it down ends its contribution to the stream. | Keep the streaming computer and connection available for the broadcast, use a suitable dedicated appliance, or move playback to a cloud service. |
Other ways to schedule prerecorded YouTube output
For software-based play-out, OBS is the documented basic option: use Media Source for one loop or VLC Video for a playlist. YouTube also lists the AJA HELO Plus, whose PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. It is a specialized hardware option, not a requirement for the OBS workflow; check current availability and fit before purchasing. See YouTube’s encoder list.
