To make a bakery website, choose a domain and website builder, create a clear mobile-friendly design, add accurate menu and business information, configure online ordering if it fits your operations, improve local discovery, and keep the site current. The best setup depends on whether customers mainly need to find your bakery or also place and manage orders online.

1. Choose a domain and hosting

Pick a domain that customers can remember and type—usually your bakery’s name, or its name plus a location or specialty if that makes it clearer. Check that the domain is available and review its renewal cost before purchasing; prices and availability vary and should be confirmed at checkout.

Hosting is where the website’s files and services live. Many website builders include hosting, which can simplify setup; if you choose a separate hosting arrangement, confirm that it works with the site platform you plan to use.

2. Choose a website builder and template

Start with the work the site needs to do. An informational site may only require pages, business details, and a reliable contact route. A bakery taking online orders also needs a way to maintain its menu and control payment and fulfillment options. Wix’s bakery website guide treats choosing a builder and template as an early step.

Before committing, check how easily you can edit menu items, accept custom-order requests, set pickup or delivery rules, configure payments and taxes, and manage the site on a phone. Also consider ongoing cost, domain control, and whether the platform gives your bakery the branding flexibility it needs. The available sources do not establish a current, like-for-like price comparison or show that one builder is best for every bakery.

3. Design the site so customers can act quickly

Make the essentials easy to locate from the main navigation: menu, hours, location or service area, contact details, and ordering. Keep the next action obvious—such as viewing the menu, placing an order, or asking about a custom cake. Check the site on a phone, especially the menu and any checkout or inquiry flow, before publishing.

Choose a visual style that suits the bakery, but let product information remain readable. Clear product photos can help customers understand what you sell; Wix recommends using photos and videos to showcase baked goods. Avoid relying on imagery in place of practical details such as size, flavor, availability, and price.

4. Add accurate bakery content

Give customers enough information to decide what to buy and how to get it. Add product names and descriptions, prices where appropriate, custom-order instructions, and the bakery’s story. Include current hours, contact information, and a street address or service area. Wix’s guide recommends showcasing products with photos and videos.

Use a custom-order page or a clearly visible inquiry route if cakes or other products need advance discussion. Explain what information customers should provide and how they can reach the bakery. Only publish details the business can keep accurate.

5. Set up online ordering only if it fits your operations

Online ordering is useful only when its settings match the way the bakery actually fulfills orders. Before launch, check the menu and availability, payment and tax setup, pickup windows, delivery area, and how custom orders are handled. Make sure staff know how to update items that sell out or become unavailable.

Square documents online ordering profiles for food and beverage sellers. Its profiles use menus and menu items to create a catalog, with pickup and delivery settings for fulfillment; see Square’s instructions for creating an online ordering profile. Check current availability and account requirements before choosing an ordering workflow.

6. Improve local discovery

Keep the bakery’s name, location or service area, hours, and contact details consistent and accurate across the website and business listings. Wix recommends local SEO and an accurate Google Business Profile. Clear location and service information also helps customers determine whether pickup or delivery is practical.

Google ordering integration is conditional, not automatic. Square lists prerequisites that include a published site, website ordering, a Google Business Profile, and pickup or local delivery; some merchant categories may not be eligible. Review Square’s Google ordering setup requirements and confirm that the feature is available for your account before advertising it.

7. Maintain and promote the site

A published site needs regular updates. Refresh seasonal menus and photos, remove sold-out items, update holiday ordering deadlines and hours, and keep pickup instructions current. Link to the site from the bakery’s existing channels, and periodically place a test order or submit an inquiry to check that the customer path still works.

Bakery website example: what to look for

Wix’s Yori’s Bakery example combines product photography, simple navigation, online ordering, custom cake inquiries, and background about the business. These are useful components to consider, not proof that a particular layout increases sales. Explore the Wix bakery website examples for ideas, then adapt the choices to your own menu and workflow.
