Then lower screen brightness, shorten screen timeout, limit background activity for high-drain apps, and use Battery Saver when its tradeoffs are acceptable. A 7,200mAh rating describes capacity; it cannot promise a particular number of hours or days because runtime also depends on the phone, its display, signal, apps, and settings.
What a 7,200mAh battery rating does—and does not—tell you
Milliamp-hours (mAh) describe battery capacity, not how long a particular phone will run. Two phones with the same stated capacity can have different runtimes because of their display, hardware, software, cellular reception, and usage. The phone model and operating system are not specified here, and official guidance does not quantify how many extra hours these changes will provide on this device.

These steps are Android-first. Menu names and available features vary by manufacturer and model, so use your phone maker’s instructions if the path or setting differs.

- Open Settings > Battery, then look for Battery usage or a similarly named screen.
- Review the usage over a representative period, such as since the last full charge, and identify apps or features using unusually large amounts of power.
- For an app that is consistently a major drain, check its battery or background-activity settings and restrict background use if you can tolerate delayed updates or notifications.
Avoid routinely force-closing every app: first use the battery report to identify a problem. Motorola phones that support it may also provide battery usage and condition checks through the Device Help app; availability and steps are model-specific. Motorola’s battery guidance describes those options.

Reduce the screen’s power use
- Lower brightness to a comfortable level, or enable adaptive brightness if it works well for you.
- Shorten screen timeout so the display turns off sooner when idle.
- Try dark theme if it is comfortable and supported. Its power benefit depends on the display and app; it is not a guaranteed large saving on every phone.
Google lists display adjustments among its Android battery-saving recommendations. Pixel-specific advice also covers brightness and dark theme in Google’s Pixel battery guide.
Use Battery Saver when you need the charge to stretch
Turn on your phone’s Battery Saver (sometimes called a power-saving mode) when the remaining charge matters more than full background activity. Depending on the phone, it can limit background work, syncing, some network connections, or visual effects. That may mean delayed notifications or updates and a less responsive experience. The feature’s name and behavior differ between Android makers; see Google’s Android guidance for the general tradeoff.

Use connections and location only when needed
- Prefer Wi-Fi when a reliable network is available. Wi-Fi can use less power than cellular data for data access.
- Turn off Bluetooth, location, or mobile data only when you do not need them. Disabling location can affect maps and other apps or features.
- Use Airplane mode only when you do not need mobile service. In a place with poor coverage, it can stop the phone searching for a network, but it also makes you unreachable by normal cellular calls and messages while enabled.
- Limit long hotspot sessions and GPS navigation when trying to conserve a low charge.
Wi-Fi use and poor cellular signal are also identified as battery factors in Apple’s iPhone battery guidance; its settings instructions are for iPhone, not Android.

When you need to make the remaining charge last, avoid prolonged video or music streaming, camera use, navigation, hotspot use, and graphics-heavy games where practical. These activities can demand sustained screen, network, GPS, or processor use. Google also cautions that a hot battery can drain faster—even while the phone is idle—and that heat-related drain can damage the battery. Keep the phone out of hot conditions; no special accessory is required. Google’s Android battery guidance covers heat and high-demand activities.

Separate today’s runtime from long-term battery health
Optimized charging and charge limits are intended to reduce long-term battery stress on supported phones. They do not add charge for the day: an 80% limit leaves less starting capacity when maximum daily runtime is the priority. Availability is model-specific. Google says Pixel’s 80% limit is available on Pixel 6a and later; Motorola notes that optimized charging is not available on every model. Check your manufacturer’s instructions before changing charging behavior.
There is no need to teach a phone its capacity by repeatedly draining it to zero and recharging it. Google’s Android battery guidance says a full discharge is not necessary. For device-specific charging features, consult your maker’s documentation, including Google’s Pixel guidance where applicable.

What to do if the drain remains unusual
Check Battery usage again, then restart the phone and install available system or app updates as appropriate. If one app remains a clear outlier, review its background settings. If the phone continues to lose charge unusually quickly without a clear cause, contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider for device-specific diagnosis. Capacity alone does not establish that the battery is degraded or faulty; replacement advice requires identifying the model and checking its condition.
