YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Public replays can contribute qualified watch hours, but that does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program (YPP) acceptance or ad revenue.
How to prepare a 24/7 stream for eligible replays
Use separate broadcast sessions rather than relying on one uninterrupted, day-long stream. YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream that is less than 12 hours, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording as a backup, as YouTube recommends one for live streams. YouTube’s archive guidance explains the limit.

- Plan sessions shorter than 12 hours. End each session before it reaches 12 hours, then start a new one. The under-12-hour limit is the safer choice for archive capture; it is not a guarantee that every archive will be complete.
- Record a local backup. Keep a recording of each session in case the YouTube archive is missing or incomplete.
- Check the archive in Studio. Open YouTube Studio and go to Content → Live. Open the relevant session and verify that its archive is present and its visibility is set as intended. You can change privacy from the Content page.
- Set the replay to Public. Private and unlisted videos do not count toward qualified public watch hours. Deleted videos do not count either.
- Confirm it is available as a VOD. YouTube excludes livestreams that have not been converted to video on demand from qualified watch hours. Do not assume that a live session counts simply because it was broadcast.
- Review content rights and originality. Before relying on a replay for monetization, check that you have rights to the video, audio, and music, and that the channel adds original or meaningful value.
Which replays can count toward public watch hours?
YouTube’s YPP eligibility guidance counts qualified watch hours from long-form videos set to Public. It excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. In practical terms, the replay needs to exist as a public VOD; a live broadcast alone is not enough.

Archive capture and watch-hour eligibility are separate checks: first confirm a usable archive exists, then confirm it is public and available as a VOD. A replay’s eligibility does not mean YouTube will approve the channel for YPP.

Watch hours are not the same as monetization approval
As of YouTube Help’s eligibility page checked on October 3, 2026, the higher ad-revenue route lists 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. YouTube also lists prerequisites including living in a YPP-available country or region, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling 2-Step Verification, having access to advanced features, and an AdSense for YouTube account. These are current published figures, not permanent guarantees; check the current Earn tab and YouTube’s eligibility page before applying. YouTube notes program updates beginning in 2027.
Meeting the numbers does not automatically admit a channel. YouTube reviews the channel against its policies, so watch-hour progress and approval are distinct outcomes.
What must be in place to earn from eligible replays?
If YouTube accepts the channel into YPP, Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue from eligible long-form and live-streaming videos requires accepting the Watch Page Monetization Module in Studio’s Earn area. After acceptance, enable applicable live monetization controls. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are enabled when live monetization is on, and mid-rolls may be automatic or manual; an enabled setting does not guarantee that an ad will serve. Why continuous loops can fail monetization review
A technically valid public archive can still fail monetization review. YouTube applies its reused-content policy at the channel level: republishing material from YouTube or another source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value can make a channel ineligible. A looped still image, borrowed ambient video, or music stream should not be assumed monetizable just because it runs continuously. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Rights matter too. YouTube’s livestream terms say creators represent that they have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Public visibility and successful archiving do not resolve copyright or other third-party rights issues. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and clear rights for every element you use.

Troubleshooting missing or ineligible replays
- No archive appears: Check whether the session ran for 12 hours or longer; YouTube warns that longer streams may not be captured. Use shorter sessions and retain a local backup.
- The replay exists but watch hours do not qualify: In Studio, verify that the replay is Public and available as a VOD. Private, unlisted, deleted, and unconverted livestreams are excluded.
- The channel has enough watch hours but is not accepted: The numerical threshold is not approval. Check the current Earn tab, listed prerequisites, and channel-wide policy compliance.
- The replay is public, but monetization is unavailable: Confirm YPP acceptance and acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module. Review applicable live monetization settings; ad delivery is not guaranteed.
- Monetization review raises content concerns: Assess whether the channel adds meaningful original value and whether all video, audio, and music rights are cleared.
