To make a YouTube study stream switch between recorded lessons automatically, queue the lesson files in an OBS Studio playlist and keep OBS running, or upload the videos to a cloud service that plays a playlist for you. With OBS, the computer, files, power and internet connection must remain available. Either way, “24/7” describes the intended schedule—not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime.
Choose local OBS playback or a cloud-hosted playlist
OBS Studio is the do-it-yourself option: it plays local media and sends an encoded feed to YouTube Live. A cloud-hosted service can play uploaded videos without relying on your home computer. Choose based on what you can keep available and monitor.

Prepare the recorded lessons
- Collect the lesson files in the order you want viewers to see them. Check that each file plays correctly before building the playlist.
- Confirm you have the rights to stream every lesson, including its video, audio, slides and any included third-party material. YouTube may apply copyright rules to live content as well as uploads.
- Decide whether lessons should play once or repeat. Check the current OBS interface and playlist behavior; the cited OBS walkthrough is from 2021, so labels and controls may have changed.
- Keep a separate copy of the recordings if viewers need access to the complete sequence later. YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while very long streams may have limited or unavailable rewind.
Set up the local stream in OBS Studio
- Build the media sequence. In OBS, add a media source for the first lesson, enable its playlist controls, and add the remaining files in order. Set whether the sequence should loop if you want lessons to repeat. Confirm the chosen source is visible in the scene and test transitions before going live. OBS screens can vary by version, so verify current labels in your installed release.
- Configure the video output. Open Settings > Video and choose a base canvas and output resolution appropriate for your lesson files and connection. Use a frame rate supported by the sources and stable on the computer. For a lecture stream, matching the source resolution is usually a practical way to avoid unnecessary scaling; preview text and slides at the intended viewing size.
- Configure encoding. Open Settings > Output and select streaming output. Choose an encoder your computer can sustain, set a bitrate appropriate for the selected resolution and frame rate, and use a keyframe interval of 2 seconds where supported. YouTube’s current recommended encoder settings should govern exact bitrate and codec choices; they can change, so consult YouTube’s encoder setup guidance rather than relying on an old fixed value.
- Get the YouTube connection details. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the scheduled broadcast. Copy the current server URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or include it in a public screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming from OBS, then confirm in YouTube Live Control Room that encoder data is arriving and that the audience-facing broadcast is actually live. Scheduling a YouTube broadcast and sending encoder data are separate steps; a scheduled event alone does not make OBS send the lesson playlist.
- Keep the local setup running. Disable sleep or automatic shutdown for the duration, keep the computer powered and connected, and make sure the media files remain accessible. Monitor the stream and have a way to restart OBS and the broadcast if the computer, connection or encoder fails.
Schedule, archive and replay considerations
YouTube supports scheduling a live broadcast, but scheduling does not keep the local encoder supplying video. The stream continues only while OBS sends media and the required local setup remains available.

- YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer stream will produce a complete replay; keep a separate recording when retaining the whole lesson sequence matters.
- YouTube’s DVR guidance warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams beyond 12 hours. Tell viewers who join late if they may not be able to rewind.
- For a truly continuous schedule, plan for interruptions: check the broadcast periodically, retain source files separately, and know how you will restart the encoder and relaunch the live broadcast.
