Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You can loop a recorded lecture in OBS and keep a static image visible by combining a Media Source with an Image source in one scene. Connect OBS to YouTube Live with your server URL and stream key, then test and monitor the broadcast. “24/7” describes the intended schedule, not a guarantee that one stream will stay online or produce a complete replay.
What you need before you start
- A computer that can run OBS continuously, with dependable power and internet access.
- The lecture video and the static image you want viewers to see. Confirm you have permission to use the recording and all material in it.
- A verified YouTube channel that is eligible to livestream. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours; the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
OBS’s Media Source supports common video and audio formats. Its Loop option is off by default. For a playlist of several files, OBS offers a VLC Video source; VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. These source options are documented in the OBS Media Sources guide.

Build the OBS scene with a lecture and static image
- Create a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene for the lecture stream.
- Add the lecture. In Sources, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, select the lecture file, and enable Loop so playback restarts when it reaches the end. Loop is not enabled by default.
- Add the still visual. In Sources, select + and choose Image, then select your image file.
- Set source order and framing. Arrange the sources in the Sources list so the image appears where intended. A source above another source can cover it; if the image should remain as a background while the lecture is visible, position and size the lecture source over the image. Use the preview canvas to fit and place each source.
- Check the whole playback cycle. Preview the scene, including the end of the lecture and its restart. Make sure the image remains visible as intended and that the loop transition is acceptable.
Choose a loop method for one lecture or a playlist
| Content | OBS source | Loop control | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| One recorded lecture | Media Source | Enable Loop. | Preview the end-to-start transition and confirm the image stays in the intended position. |
| Several lecture files | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist. | Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. Check playlist order and transitions. |
The OBS documentation describes looping controls, not a dedicated 24/7 scheduler. Plan how and when the broadcast starts and who will check it rather than assuming the source options schedule or supervise a stream.

- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use.
- In the encoder settings, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the corresponding OBS stream fields. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe entering these details.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your destination. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube and update OBS.
- Start with a test stream. Check the OBS preview and YouTube Live Control Room before relying on the broadcast schedule.
Use YouTube’s current instructions for its Live Control Room and encoder because labels and eligibility requirements can change. A channel with restrictions may not be able to stream even if OBS is configured correctly.

Set output quality and test the connection
Use YouTube’s encoder settings guidance as a YouTube-specific starting point, not a universal OBS preset. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube lists 14 Mbps as its recommended bitrate and 5 Mbps as the minimum. These figures apply to that codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate that match the lecture and the upload capacity available to the computer.
- Set the encoder bitrate to suit the connection. A bitrate that exceeds available upload capacity can cause dropped frames or an unstable stream.
- Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval for the YouTube encoder setup; do not exceed YouTube’s stated four-second maximum.
- Run a test before the intended long session. Watch OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s stream preview and health messages.
- Continue checking the stream during operation. YouTube recommends testing and continuous monitoring; a successful initial connection does not establish that a computer, network, or broadcast will remain available around the clock.
Understand the limits of a 24-hour broadcast
A 24/7 schedule is not an uptime guarantee
OBS depends on the computer, power, internet connection, and encoder remaining operational. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing and monitoring, but it does not establish an uptime guarantee or prescribe a redundant power or network design. A single desktop setup can stop sending if its power, connection, or encoding process fails.

A single 24-hour stream may not become a complete replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on one continuous 24-hour broadcast to create a complete archived lecture. If a complete replay matters, plan shorter sessions and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior before publishing the schedule. The reviewed guidance does not establish that a stream longer than 12 hours will be fully archived. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Check copyright and permissions before going live
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; unresolved third-party content can lead to temporary interruption or termination. If you have licensed material, YouTube says to ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. An archived stream can also receive Content ID claims after it ends. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Troubleshoot common OBS and YouTube problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The lecture stops at the end. | Media Source’s Loop option is off. | Open the source properties, enable Loop, and preview the restart. |
| The playlist does not play or loop. | VLC is missing or the installed VLC architecture does not match 64-bit OBS; playlist looping may also be disabled. | Install the compatible VLC version and check the VLC Video source’s playlist and Loop Playlist setting. |
| The image covers the lecture or is not visible. | The sources are stacked or positioned incorrectly. | Adjust source order and placement in the OBS Sources list and preview canvas. |
| YouTube does not accept the stream. | The server URL or stream key is incorrect, the channel is not eligible, or live streaming has not finished enabling. | Verify the encoder details against Live Control Room and check the channel’s live-stream eligibility. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. |
| OBS reports rising dropped frames or the stream looks unstable. | The connection to the destination may be unstable or unable to keep up with the selected bitrate. | Check upload capacity, lower the bitrate if needed, and test again while monitoring OBS and YouTube’s stream health. See the OBS dropped-frames guide. |
| The live stream is interrupted after a content match. | YouTube detected third-party content, or licensed material is not covered by channel allowlisting. | Review the match and rights, and ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel where applicable. |
| The stream is live but no complete 24-hour replay appears. | YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior covers streams under 12 hours; a complete archive for a longer stream is not established. | Use shorter sessions if a complete VOD is important and confirm current archive behavior before setting the schedule. |
Or let it run in the cloud

Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
