Clear rights for both parts of the stream
Use rain recordings and visuals you made yourself, or assets for which you have permission for the intended territories and uses. A licence that allows a one-time video upload may not cover continuous streaming, monetization, edits, or archived playback. Keep the licence or commissioning terms so you can check its limits.

Make the loop work as a continuous ambience
Build a loop with a deliberate beginning and ending so the transition does not produce a sudden jump, silence, click, or conspicuous change in rain level. Listen to the loop repeatedly before launch, and check that any thunder, music, or other added sound is also covered by your rights. A static or slowly changing visual can suit ambience, but it should still be yours or cleared for this use.
Create the YouTube livestream and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio, select Go Live, and create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room.
- Choose the stream’s title, visibility, and other settings. Scheduling can create a watch page people can share and may let viewers set reminders.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching YouTube or RTMP fields in your encoder.
- Treat the stream key like a password. If it is exposed or compromised, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder with the replacement.
- If you reuse settings from an earlier broadcast, review privacy and all copied options before going live.

Choose encoder settings and test the feed
Use settings your connection and encoder can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video options; AAC or MP3 audio; constant-bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Its guidance also recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio and a 44.1 kHz stereo sample rate. These are platform recommendations, not one mandatory profile for every encoder: choose a combination your encoder supports and that your upload connection can sustain. - Run a test stream using audio and motion similar to the finished ambience.
- Open the watch page and confirm that the picture and sound are present and in sync.
- Check the encoder preview and YouTube stream-health messages for warnings or dropped input.
- Listen through the loop boundary for clicks, abrupt cuts, silence, or a noticeable change in loudness.
- Keep monitoring audio and video quality after launch. YouTube’s live-streaming tips specifically advise continuous monitoring.
Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A single uninterrupted 24/7 session exceeds that threshold, so do not assume it will produce a complete automatic replay. If a replay matters, consider scheduling separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify how archives appear on your channel. Understand monetization and reused-content review
Eligible channels may monetize livestreams using features such as ads and Super Chat, but a looping broadcast does not guarantee monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy says repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible as “inauthentic content”; reused-content review applies across the channel. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 clarification said this described existing policy rather than changing its reused-content policy.

Troubleshoot common problems
You cannot start the livestream
- Possible cause: The channel is not verified, has a live-streaming restriction, or does not meet YouTube’s age requirement.
- Fix: Check Go Live and channel notices in Live Control Room, and resolve eligibility issues there. Do not try to bypass a restriction with another channel.
YouTube shows a copyright warning or replaces the feed
- Possible cause: The stream matches audio or visuals controlled by a third party, or a rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.
- Fix: Remove or replace the matched material with content you control or have cleared for livestreaming, and contact the rights owner about allowlisting when appropriate. Keep documentation for any licence.
The preview is unstable or stream health reports a problem
- Possible cause: The encoder settings exceed what the upload connection or selected encoder can sustain, or the chosen format combination is unsupported.
- Fix: Test a lower, sustainable output; confirm the encoder supports the selected codec and audio settings; and check the stream preview and health messages before relaunching.
The loop has a click, abrupt cut, or unwanted silence
- Possible cause: The source audio or video does not join cleanly at the loop boundary.
- Fix: Adjust the edit or mix, then run another test long enough to hear the transition more than once.
The 24/7 stream does not have a complete replay
- Possible cause: The continuous broadcast exceeded YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive condition.
- Fix: If automatic archives are important, test separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and check the resulting archives on your channel; do not promise a seamless transition.
