This guide covers the setup, stream settings, monitoring, YouTube’s archive limit and the rights issues to resolve before going live.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, eligible for live streaming and free of live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s help guidance, so enable it ahead of your planned launch. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- A computer that can run OBS continuously, a stable internet connection with sufficient upload speed, and the video or audio you plan to loop.
- Media rights for worldwide streaming. Use narration, music and visuals you created or have permission to use; YouTube requires the necessary rights for live content and compliance with its policies and applicable laws. YouTube Terms of Service
Prepare the affirmations video and OBS scene
Choose media you are allowed to stream
Make a video file containing the spoken affirmations and any background music or visuals, or prepare separate audio and image sources for OBS. Clear rights for every component, including music, even if it is only background audio. A license should cover the intended use and territory; do not assume that music available in a video editor or on another platform is cleared for a YouTube livestream.

Create a scene and add a looping source
- Open OBS and create a scene, for example “Affirmations.”
- In Sources, select + and add Media Source. Name it, choose the local video or audio file, and enable Loop so the file starts again when playback ends. OBS documents this as replaying the file once playback has completed. OBS: Media Sources
- For multiple files, add a VLC Video Source, select the files and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source option to appear in OBS. Check that the files play in the intended order and that transitions or gaps are acceptable.
- Add optional image, text or other visual sources to the scene, then position and size them in the preview. Keep on-screen text legible at the output resolution.
Check audio before connecting YouTube
Watch the OBS Audio Mixer while the media plays. Confirm the affirmation voice and any intended music register on the right source, and listen to the output rather than relying only on meter movement. For a prerecorded stream, mute an unintended microphone or desktop-audio source to avoid room noise, notifications or duplicate audio.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service and enter the server URL and stream key. If the service setup offers account connection instead, use the available YouTube connection flow.
- Keep the stream key private: it authorizes software to broadcast to your channel. Do not share it in a screenshot, public document or chat. If it is exposed, reset or regenerate it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
Set OBS output for a stable feed
There is no single bitrate or resolution that suits every file, computer and upload connection. Start with a resolution and bitrate your connection can sustain, then test the actual OBS output. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and stream quality rather than assuming the connection is adequate. YouTube: Live streaming tips
- Rate control: Use CBR (constant bitrate), which YouTube recommends for live encoders.
- Keyframes: Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube’s guidance says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: Use AAC or MP3 audio as supported by the encoder guidance. Confirm the OBS audio track you intend to send is enabled and audible.
- Resolution and bitrate: Match the output to what your computer and sustained upload can handle. YouTube transcodes incoming video for viewers on different devices and network conditions, but that does not remove the need for a stable source feed.
These are general encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular setting will work on your connection. Refer to YouTube’s current encoder settings and test the planned configuration before leaving it on. YouTube: Recommended encoder settings

Test, publish and monitor the broadcast
- In OBS, start the stream and check that YouTube’s Live Control Room receives the picture and sound. Use a private or unlisted test where appropriate before making a public broadcast.
- Check for a clean, correctly framed image, intelligible affirmation audio, acceptable music levels and no unintended microphone or desktop sounds.

- For a long-running broadcast, decide who will notice a dropped stream and how it will be restarted. A local OBS setup depends on the running computer, OBS process, power and internet connection; the reviewed YouTube and OBS guidance does not promise uninterrupted unattended operation.
Will YouTube archive a 24-hour affirmations stream?
Do not count on one continuous 24-hour broadcast producing a complete replay. YouTube’s help guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not make the same promise for longer streams. If you need a replay, plan for a local recording, consider shorter scheduled segments, and verify the resulting archive in YouTube Studio. Check YouTube’s current guidance before relying on archive behavior. YouTube: Archive live streams
Copyright, reused content and monetization
Rights clearance and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships as livestream revenue features where available, but ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Monetization depends on eligibility and policy compliance, and YouTube Partner Program policies apply to live streams, including copyright and reused-content rules. Repeating prerecorded material does not by itself establish eligibility; create original, valuable content and leave eligibility decisions to YouTube. Common problems and fixes
- OBS does not show VLC Video Source: Install VLC, then restart OBS and check Sources again. For a single file, use Media Source instead.
- The video ends instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a VLC playlist, enable Loop Playlist and confirm the playlist contains the intended files.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm the stream key and server URL match the stream in Live Control Room. If the key was reset, replace the saved key in OBS.
- Audio is silent, doubled or contaminated by room noise: Check the Audio Mixer during playback, verify the intended source is audible, and mute unwanted microphone or desktop-audio inputs.
- Stream health is poor or the feed drops: Test sustained upload speed, reduce output demands if necessary, and run another test. A wired connection is worth trying if Wi-Fi is unstable, but a cable does not guarantee uptime.
- The first live broadcast is not available yet: Check channel verification and restrictions, then allow for activation time; YouTube says initial activation may take up to 24 hours.
