To loop a recorded Fortnite match on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio to encode and send the stream, with either OBS’s built-in Media Source for one video or its VLC Video source for a playlist. VLC can loop playlist playback, but VLC alone does not send a live stream to YouTube. Add your YouTube stream URL and key in OBS, check the preview and audio, then start the stream.
What you need before you start
- A locally playable video file of the Fortnite match. The steps below loop a recording; they do not capture a live Fortnite session.
- OBS Studio, which encodes the video and sends it to YouTube Live.
- VLC installed if you want to use OBS’s VLC Video source for a playlist. OBS requires 64-bit VLC when you use 64-bit OBS. OBS documents the source requirements and playback controls.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so check readiness before scheduling. YouTube also requires streamers to be at least 16. Review YouTube’s encoder livestream requirements and livestreaming tips.
Fortnite’s Replay feature can be used to review recorded matches and create captures or clips. Epic’s cited instructions specifically cover enabling Record Creative Replays for Creative islands; they do not establish that replay capture or export works the same way in every mode or on every platform. Use a video file you can already play on your device. Epic’s Replay documentation explains the feature.

Choose how to loop the recording
| What you want to play | OBS source | Loop setting |
|---|---|---|
| One recorded match | Media Source | Enable Loop in the source properties. |
| Several recordings in sequence | VLC Video | Add the files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist. |
OBS’s Media Source supports common formats such as MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. The VLC Video source is useful when you want playlist playback. Find both options in the Sources panel when adding a source to a scene. See OBS Media Sources for the available properties.

Set up OBS and YouTube Live
- Make a scene and add the video. In OBS, select or create a scene. In the Sources panel, choose +. For one file, add Media Source, select the local video, and enable Loop in its properties. For multiple files, choose VLC Video, add the video files to its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. Confirm the source is visible in the preview and fits the canvas as intended.
- Get the YouTube ingest details. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube’s live stream settings help covers the stream URL and key.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings and select Stream. Choose YouTube as the service if it is available, then enter or select the server and stream key according to the fields OBS presents. If configuring a custom server, use the stream URL supplied by YouTube. Do not share screenshots or recordings that reveal the key.
- Set output and video settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. In OBS, these controls are generally under Settings → Output (set the encoder, bitrate control, bitrate, and keyframe interval) and Settings → Video (set output resolution and frame rate). YouTube’s recommendation does not guarantee your computer or connection can sustain a particular setting. Choose resolution and bitrate to match your available upload capacity. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance.
- Test before broadcasting. Start the OBS stream and look for its preview in Live Control Room. Check that the match is moving, the game audio is present at a suitable level, and the video is not cropped or stretched. Watch YouTube’s stream health indicators; test with representative motion and audio before the intended broadcast. YouTube advises testing before going live.
- Start and stop deliberately. Once the preview and stream health look acceptable, start the event in Live Control Room if the stream setup requires that step. When finished, stop streaming in OBS and end the event in Live Control Room. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived automatically. See YouTube’s encoder and archiving guidance.
Can VLC loop a video while streaming?
Yes, as the playback source within OBS: add VLC Video, make a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS then captures that playback in the scene, while OBS—not VLC—encodes and sends the stream to YouTube. If you only need one match to repeat, Media Source with Loop is a simpler setup and does not require VLC. OBS lists the loop controls for both source types.

Fortnite replay, copyright, and YouTube rules
Use a recording you have the right to broadcast. Fortnite gameplay may include music, voice chat, overlays, or other material whose rights differ from the gameplay itself. A repeat stream does not remove copyright obligations. Check the relevant rights and YouTube’s current policies before using music or third-party content, and do not assume that looping a recording makes it eligible for monetization or exempt from reused-content review. The sources cited here do not establish a blanket permission or monetization outcome for a particular Fortnite recording.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is missing in OBS | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. Restart OBS and add the source again. OBS documents this requirement. |
| The video stops after one play | The source loop option is off. | Open the source properties and enable Loop for Media Source or Loop Playlist for VLC Video. |
| YouTube receives no picture or reports a stream issue | The stream key or URL may be wrong, the event may not be ready, or the outgoing settings may exceed the connection’s capacity. | Recheck the URL and key in Live Control Room, confirm the correct stream is selected, and lower bitrate or resolution if upload capacity is insufficient. Check YouTube’s stream health and preview. |
| Video appears but game audio is missing or too loud | The source or OBS audio routing/mixer level may be incorrect. | Check the source’s audio behavior and OBS mixer meters while the clip plays. Listen to the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. |
| The broadcast is not available when scheduled | Livestream access may not be enabled, or the channel may not meet eligibility requirements. | Check verification and restriction status in YouTube Studio. For first-time enablement, allow up to 24 hours. |
| A long stream is not automatically archived | YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. | Keep the broadcast within that duration if automatic archiving is important, or consult current YouTube guidance for longer streams. |
