To loop podcast episodes on a YouTube live stream, play the episode files through an encoder such as OBS, enable repeat for the media source or playlist, and send the encoder’s live feed to YouTube. YouTube receives that feed as a live broadcast; it does not turn a normal uploaded podcast into a live stream just because viewers can replay it. The local method works only while the computer, encoder, and internet connection keep running.
Before you set up the stream
Check that your channel is eligible to livestream. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. If live streaming is unavailable in Studio, resolve the channel’s eligibility issue before troubleshooting OBS.
- Have the podcast episode files ready on the computer that will run OBS.
- Use only audio and video you have the rights or permission to broadcast. A live rebroadcast does not make copyrighted music, clips, or guest material permissible. Repeated or prerecorded programming also does not guarantee monetization; YouTube makes its own decisions under its current policies.
- Decide whether to loop one episode continuously or cycle through several episodes in a playlist.
Set up a looping podcast in OBS
1. Create the YouTube live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Get the stream connection details shown for that stream and configure OBS to send to YouTube. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or send it to anyone who does not need access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Keep the Live Control Room open so you can check the incoming preview and status. The exact Studio labels and controls can change, so use the current controls shown for your account rather than relying on an old screenshot.
2. Add the episode or episodes
- In OBS, create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the episode as a media or video source, then select the file on your computer. For multiple episodes, add the files using a playlist-capable source or arrange the episodes as sources in the playback sequence your OBS version supports.
- Enable the source’s loop or repeat option if you want the same episode to restart automatically. For a playlist, enable repeat for the playlist if you want it to start again after the last episode.
- Check the scene preview: confirm the intended video appears, and check that the audio meter moves during playback. If your podcast is audio-only, provide a suitable visual in the scene rather than assuming YouTube will create one for you.
OBS controls and source labels vary by version and source type. If you cannot find a repeat control, check the selected source’s properties and the playlist controls; do not assume that repeating a viewer’s YouTube player repeats the feed being broadcast.
3. Connect OBS and verify the feed
- Use OBS’s YouTube streaming configuration with the connection details for the stream you selected in Studio.
- Start the encoder feed from OBS. Wait for the Live Control Room to show an incoming preview and a healthy or active stream status.
- Check the picture and sound in the preview before starting the broadcast for viewers. Confirm the episode is playing and that the repeat behavior is set as intended.
- When the preview is correct, start the live broadcast from the Live Control Room if Studio is waiting for that confirmation. Check the live page as a viewer if practical.
Resolution, bitrate, and stream settings
There is no single bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, computer specification, or maximum dependable broadcast duration established for this workflow here. OBS and YouTube settings should be chosen for the source material and the connection available to the encoder, not guessed from a universal number. Use the current recommendations displayed in YouTube Studio and OBS for your selected stream configuration, and verify the result in the Live Control Room before relying on a long broadcast.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Keep the episode’s frame shape and intended quality in mind when selecting the OBS output resolution; avoid enlarging a low-resolution file and expecting extra detail.
- Use the encoder’s current YouTube-recommended stream settings where available, and make one change at a time if Studio reports a problem.
- Run a preview before the planned broadcast to catch audio routing, black video, unintended overlays, or a source that stops instead of repeating.
- Do not treat a successful short preview as proof that a local computer or connection will remain available indefinitely.
Keep it running: local computer or cloud playout
With OBS, playback and encoding happen on your computer. The computer must stay powered, OBS must keep running, and the internet connection must remain available. That gives you direct control of the scene and files, but a shutdown, sleep setting, crash, or connection loss can interrupt the feed.
For a cloud alternative, StreamNeo is #1 for this use case: it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

Troubleshoot common problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | The channel may not be verified, may have a recent live-streaming restriction, or may not meet YouTube’s age requirement. | Check the channel’s live-streaming eligibility and notices in YouTube Studio before changing OBS settings. |
| Studio receives no preview | OBS may not be sending to the selected stream, or the stream connection details may not match. | Confirm OBS is configured for the intended YouTube stream, start the encoder feed, and check for a preview in the Live Control Room. If the key was replaced, update OBS with the current one. |
| The episode plays once and stops | Repeat may be off, or it may be enabled on a different source or playlist. | Open the active source or playlist controls in OBS and verify its repeat setting. Observe the transition at the end of the episode before going live. |
| The preview has video but no sound | The episode’s audio may not be reaching the active OBS scene or output. | Watch OBS’s audio meter during playback and check the selected source and scene’s audio routing. Confirm sound in the Studio preview before starting the broadcast. |
| The video is black or the wrong scene appears | The scene may not contain the intended source, or the source may be inactive or pointed at the wrong file. | Select the broadcast scene, inspect its sources and file selection, and confirm the correct image appears in OBS and Studio. |
| The broadcast stops unexpectedly | A local computer, OBS, or network interruption can stop a locally encoded feed; YouTube may also disconnect an incoming stream. | Check whether OBS is still running and connected, whether the computer slept or restarted, and what status Studio reports. Resume the encoder feed and follow Studio’s current prompts. A local setup cannot promise uninterrupted operation. |
Cost and operating trade-offs
The DIY OBS route can make sense if you already have a computer and are comfortable leaving it and its connection running. Its practical cost includes the electricity and connectivity used during operation, plus the risk that local equipment or the network interrupts playback. The available guidance does not establish a minimum computer specification or a reliable total cost.
