To loop one video in an OBS YouTube Live scene, add it as a Media Source, select the file, and turn on Loop in the source properties. OBS replays the file when playback completes. For a sequence of videos, use a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist instead.
Loop one video with OBS Media Source
- Create or select your scene. Choose the scene that will be part of your live output.
- Add the video source. In the Sources dock, click + and select Media Source.
- Choose the file. Select the local video you want to play. OBS documents support for
.mp4,.ts,.mov,.flv,.mkv,.avi,.gifand.webmfiles. - Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, check Loop, then confirm the source appears in the preview.
- Check visibility and layering. If the video is missing from the preview, check that the source is visible and not covered by another source. OBS renders sources higher in the Sources list above those beneath them, so a higher source can hide the video (OBS Sources Guide).
- Start your stream. Use your already-configured YouTube Live connection in OBS. These steps cover looping the media source, not connecting or setting up a YouTube stream.

Loop is different from restarting when the source activates
Media Source also has a separate setting called Restart playback when source becomes active. OBS says it restarts the file when the source is in the current scene and visible. Use Loop to repeat the file at its end; use the restart setting to control what happens when the source becomes active. They respond to different events and are not substitutes.
Loop a playlist instead of one file
- Install VLC so OBS can provide the VLC Video source. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In the Sources dock, click + and choose VLC Video.
- Add the files in the order you want them to play, then enable Loop Playlist to restart the sequence after it runs out of media files.
- Check the preview and source visibility before starting your live output.

What this OBS procedure does—and does not—cover
The settings above make a local video or playlist repeat in an OBS scene. They do not establish whether a YouTube account is eligible to livestream, what current YouTube limits apply, or whether you have the rights to broadcast a particular video or its audio. Check YouTube’s current requirements and make sure you have permission to use all media you stream; OBS source documentation does not settle those questions.
