You can loop a YouTube Live stream only after its replay is available as a video: open the replay and use YouTube’s Loop control. While a broadcast is still live, DVR may let you pause and rewind, but it is not a whole-stream repeat control. If you own the replay, remove manual chapter timestamps and turn off automatic chapters in YouTube Studio; viewers do not have a documented setting to hide chapters on someone else’s video.
Live broadcast or published replay: what can you loop?
| Playback state | What you can do | Limit | Who controls chapters? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live now | Pause or rewind with DVR, if available | DVR is not documented as a whole-stream loop; seeking cannot go before the broadcast began | The creator; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not describe a viewer chapter-hiding control |
| Replay published as a video | Use YouTube’s Loop control to repeat the replay | The channel must publish an accessible replay | The creator can remove manual chapters and disable automatic chapters |
YouTube says a channel may post highlights or a replay after a live event, so an archive is not guaranteed. Its guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Learn about live streams.

How to loop a published live-stream replay
On a computer
- Open the channel’s published live-stream replay.
- Right-click inside the video player.
- Select Loop from the player menu. The replay repeats until you turn Loop off or leave playback.
YouTube also documents repeat controls on mobile, TV, and gaming-console interfaces, though the exact controls vary by device and app version. See YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists.

Use pause and rewind if DVR is available. When playback resumes, it continues from the point where you paused; that does not restart and repeat the entire broadcast. You cannot seek to a point before the live stream began. YouTube’s DVR guidance says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Lower limits apply on Apple TV, Apple AirPlay, and older YouTube app versions. Changes to DVR settings during an event apply only to viewers who start watching after the change.

How a creator can remove chapters from a replay
These controls affect a replay you manage. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not document a viewer-side setting to hide chapters on someone else’s video. Looping repeats playback; it does not remove chapter markers.
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content, select the replay, and open its details.
- Inspect the description. Delete any manually entered chapter timestamps and titles if you want chapter-free playback. Manual chapters take precedence over automatic chapters.
- Expand Show more, find Automatic Chapters, clear Allow automatic chapters, and save.
YouTube says automatic chapters are allowed by default for new uploads, but it does not create them for every video and not all videos are eligible. Disabling automatic chapters alone will not remove a timestamp list in the description. See YouTube’s Video Chapters guidance.

Why you may not see a replay or chapter-free playback
- No replay appears: The channel may not have published one, or the archive may not have been captured. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Creators are advised to keep a local archive as a backup. Learn about live streams.
- Loop is missing: Confirm that you are watching a published replay as a video, not the live broadcast. Controls can vary by device interface.
- Rewinding is limited during a live event: DVR availability depends on the stream and device. You cannot rewind before the broadcast started; for streams longer than 12 hours, DVR may be limited or unavailable. YouTube’s DVR guidance.
- Chapters remain after disabling the automatic option: Remove manual timestamps and titles from the description too; they override automatic chapters.
- You are a viewer who wants to hide chapters: The reviewed YouTube Help pages explain chapter navigation and creator settings, but do not establish a viewer-side chapter-hiding option. Ask the channel owner to remove the chapter sources.
