To loop a video on YouTube Live with Streamlabs Desktop, add the video to a scene, connect Streamlabs Desktop to your YouTube stream, and confirm in the installed app that the source repeats. The available official Streamlabs guidance explains scenes, sources, and platform connections, but does not verify the current loop control or its location. Test the start-to-end transition before relying on the stream to run unattended.
Before you start
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days.
- First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before your planned broadcast.
- Have the video file ready if you plan to use a local media source, and make sure you have the rights needed to stream its video and audio.
- Keep the YouTube stream key private. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials for connecting an encoder.
Set up the YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create or select a live stream, then obtain its stream URL and stream key.
- Treat the key like a password. Do not include it in screenshots, recordings, or messages, and replace it if you believe someone else has access to it.
Add the video in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and create or select the scene you want to use.
- Add the video as a source. A local media source uses a file available to the computer running Streamlabs Desktop. A Browser Source displays a webpage and can be interacted with through the source’s Interact control, but Streamlabs’ Browser Source guidance does not establish that this is a recommended way to loop a live video.
- Check the video framing and audio in the preview. Confirm that the intended audio source is audible and that no unwanted scene elements cover the video.
- Open the source’s properties and inspect the controls in your installed version for repeat or playback behavior. The current control name and location are not established here, so do not assume a particular checkbox or setting exists.
- Test playback through the end of the video and observe whether it starts again at the beginning. Check the transition and audio as well as whether playback continues for the full duration you need.
Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube
- In Streamlabs Desktop, connect YouTube if that option is available in your installed version.
- If connecting manually, enter the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room in the encoder’s stream settings.
- Confirm that the preview shows the intended video and that its audio is present before starting the broadcast.
Choose stream settings and check bandwidth
YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. Choose a resolution and bitrate appropriate to your available upload speed. YouTube’s network tips recommend keeping about 20% of upload bandwidth in reserve rather than using the full connection capacity.

Those are general YouTube encoder recommendations, not a promise that one bitrate fits every resolution or connection. If the stream stutters or drops frames, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again, leaving bandwidth headroom for other network traffic.

- Test with audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the event is accessible to its intended audience.
- Start only after the preview, picture, and sound are correct.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the event rather than assuming the initial preview guarantees a stable broadcast.
Troubleshooting
The video plays once and stops
The repeat behavior may not be enabled, or the installed source controls may differ from what you expect. Reopen the source properties, inspect the available playback options, and test a full end-to-start cycle before broadcasting. The exact current Streamlabs Desktop loop control is not verified here.
