To repeat one finished saree catalog video on YouTube Live from Ubuntu, run FFmpeg with -stream_loop -1 before the file’s -i option. The flag loops that input indefinitely; it does not keep your internet connection, computer, or YouTube event running indefinitely. The command below is a starting point, not a verified fit for every Ubuntu installation or video.
What you need before you start
- An Ubuntu computer with FFmpeg installed and enough sustained upload capacity for your chosen stream settings.
- One continuous, rendered video file. This example loops a single file; it does not combine separate clips, images, or files in a directory into a playlist.
- A YouTube channel able to create a live stream, plus the server URL and stream key for an encoder stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Permission to use the catalog footage, product images, music, and other material in the video. A live broadcast does not grant rights to content you do not own or have permission to use.
Prepare the catalog video with a consistent frame size and frame rate, and decide whether it needs an audio track. There is no single saree-catalog format established for this workflow; choose settings to suit your source, upload connection, and YouTube’s current guidance.

Check FFmpeg and create a YouTube encoder stream
Check the Ubuntu installation
In a terminal, run ffmpeg -version to see the installed build. Ubuntu package versions vary by release and updates: Ubuntu Jammy’s manual identifies package version 7:4.4.2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1, which should not be assumed for other installations. If an option behaves differently, consult ffmpeg -h full on that machine and its installed FFmpeg documentation.
Get the server URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create or select an encoder stream and copy the server URL and stream key displayed for that stream.
- Use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room if your FFmpeg build supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS; it carries RTMP over TLS/SSL to encrypt the stream in transit.
Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, commit it to a public script repository, or paste it into a public support post. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.

Run the single-file loop
From the directory containing the video, use this illustrative command, replacing the filename and output destination with your own values:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "catalog.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"-rereads the file at its normal playback rate rather than sending it as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely. It must come before the corresponding-i; FFmpeg options are position-sensitive.-i "catalog.mp4"identifies the one video being looped.-c:v libx264selects H.264 video encoding, while-pix_fmt yuv420pand-r 30request a common SDR pixel format and 30 fps output. Confirm they are suitable for the source and selected YouTube stream.-g 60requests a 60-frame GOP, which at 30 fps corresponds to a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says it should not exceed four seconds.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100encodes AAC audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. YouTube lists 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 kbps as recommendations; if the input has no audio, adjust the command rather than assuming an audio stream exists.-f flvselects the output container commonly used for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. The destination combines the ingest server URL and stream key provided for your stream.
The example does not set a video bitrate, and it is not guaranteed to run unchanged on a particular FFmpeg build or source file. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and CBR. Check the current guidance and the requirements shown for your stream before selecting a profile.

Choose bitrate and verify stream health
Bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, codec, content, and available upload bandwidth; do not treat one figure as universal. For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube’s current Help table, accessed in 2026, lists a minimum video bitrate of 2 Mbps and a recommended bitrate of 6 Mbps. Those figures apply to that codec, resolution, and frame rate combination, not automatically to other profiles.

- Choose a bitrate appropriate to your intended resolution and frame rate, and ensure the connection can sustain it with headroom for normal variation.
- Configure constant bitrate (CBR) where applicable to the chosen encoder settings, following YouTube’s current recommendations.
- Start FFmpeg and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages.
- Test with audio and motion similar to the real catalog stream, and monitor health while it runs.
Test privately or as an unlisted stream before a public event. A successful FFmpeg process alone does not confirm that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.

If you mean a playlist of separate items
The command above repeats one already-rendered file. It does not turn a folder of saree clips, still images, or a text playlist into a continuous video. If your materials are separate, first prepare a continuous video with consistent dimensions, frame rate, and audio behavior, then loop that output file. A playlist-specific FFmpeg recipe depends on the actual formats and arrangement of its source assets, so do not substitute a generic directory path for the single-file input.
Understand the limits of an infinite loop
-stream_loop -1 describes FFmpeg repeating its input; it does not guarantee uninterrupted network service, encoder operation, or YouTube availability, nor does it make a live event perpetual. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance is not a promise of an archive for longer streams or of an endless broadcast.

Troubleshooting
