How to Loop a Rain Sounds Video on YouTube Live with OBS in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a rain video in an OBS-powered YouTube Live stream, add it to a scene as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop in the source properties. Confirm its audio reaches the OBS mixer, connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream, and test the broadcast before going live. This guide covers a single file and a playlist, plus the rights and channel requirements to check first.

Before you set up the stream

  • Check YouTube eligibility: YouTube says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
  • Have permission for both picture and sound. A rain recording can contain copyrighted audio or visuals even if it appears ambient or is freely available to watch. YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for use on Google services. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content and may replace, interrupt, or terminate a stream. Even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID.
  • Prepare a local media file. OBS Media Source supports common local video and audio formats, including MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, AAC, and WAV. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

The cited YouTube guidance does not establish the India-specific tax or broadcast obligations that may apply to an individual creator. Check applicable requirements separately if you need legal or tax guidance.

Loop one rain video with OBS Media Source

  1. Add the source: In OBS, select the scene you will stream from. In the Sources dock, click + and choose Media Source. OBS explains how to add sources in its Sources guide.
  2. Select the file: In the Media Source properties, enable Local File if shown, then browse to and select your rain video. Confirm the source is visible in the scene preview; if it is hidden or covered by another source, it will not appear in the broadcast.
  3. Turn on repetition: Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS restarts the file when playback reaches the end. Click OK to save the source settings.
  4. Check sound: Let the file play and watch the OBS audio mixer. The media source should register on its meter if the video contains audio. Make sure it is not muted and that the meter moves at a sensible level; a moving video with a silent stream is an easy issue to miss.
  5. Preview, then test: Check that the picture fills the intended canvas and that the rain audio is present. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing settings before streaming.

Loop a playlist instead of one file

For multiple rain videos, add a VLC Video source and use its Loop Playlist option. The source supports a list of media files, but requires VLC to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well. The OBS Media Sources guide documents both the playlist source and its dependency.

Choose Media Source for one file and the fewer moving parts; choose VLC Video when you need a sequence of files to play as a playlist. Keep the files available on the computer running OBS and check their order and audio levels before connecting to YouTube.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio: Create or select an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. YouTube lists encoder streaming as one way to broadcast; its stream settings help page explains stream keys and encoder setup.
  2. Connect the encoder: In OBS, open Settings and select Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream key shown for your YouTube stream, following YouTube’s current on-screen instructions. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your channel. Do not share it publicly.
  3. Check the preview: Confirm YouTube receives the OBS picture and audio before starting the public broadcast. If you need to verify framing or sound, use a test stream or the available private/unlisted settings, and confirm the audience setting before going live.
  4. Start streaming: Start the stream from OBS and monitor YouTube Studio for the incoming feed and any warnings. Keep OBS and the computer running while you use this DIY method; the local media source is being played by OBS.

What looping means for copyright and monetization

Looping only repeats playback; it does not grant permission to broadcast the content or make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s livestream terms state that content providers represent they have the necessary worldwide rights for use on Google services, including music licensing rights. Live scanning can interrupt material identified as third-party content, including content that is licensed but not allowlisted through Content ID.

YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships among ways eligible channels may earn from live streams, subject to feature availability and its policies. Monetization policies apply to live streams; for ads, a monetized channel must turn monetization on for the stream, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and channel monetization policies. A rain loop by itself does not establish eligibility or guarantee revenue.

Troubleshooting

  • The video stops at the end: Open the Media Source properties and verify Loop is enabled. If using a playlist, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
  • You see a blank scene or the wrong picture: Confirm the media source is visible in the active scene, its eye icon is on, and it is not obscured by another source. Check that the selected file opens and plays locally.
  • The stream has no rain audio: Check the OBS mixer while the file is playing. Unmute the source, confirm its meter responds, and test the incoming audio in YouTube’s preview before broadcasting.
  • OBS cannot use the playlist source: Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Reopen OBS after installation if the source is still unavailable.
  • YouTube interrupts or replaces the live feed: Check Studio notifications and the content’s rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party material; having a license does not necessarily prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID.
  • YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm the channel meets YouTube’s live-stream requirements and that OBS is using the stream key for the selected encoder stream. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
