Say, “Alexa, play the podcast [podcast name].” To choose a particular provider, add “from [podcast service name]” to the request. If Alexa picks the wrong service, link the provider in the Alexa app and set it as the default for the profile you use.
Start a podcast with a voice command
Ask Alexa to play a show by name. Amazon documents these requests:

- “Play the podcast [podcast name].”
- “Play the podcast [podcast name] from [podcast service name].”
- “Play yesterday’s episode of [podcast name].”
- “Play the latest episode of [podcast name].”
- “What podcast is this?”
Adding the provider’s name is the quickest way to request a show from a specific service. The command works only when the Echo device and podcast provider support playback. Amazon’s podcast voice-command help lists the examples and support limitation.
Control playback by voice
After a podcast starts, use commands such as “Pause,” “Resume,” “Next episode,” “Previous episode,” “Fast forward 5 minutes,” “Rewind 8 minutes,” or “Restart.” When the service account is linked across Alexa devices and services, Alexa resumes the most recently played podcast by default. Amazon’s voice-command guide documents these controls.

Link a podcast service in the Alexa app
- Open the Alexa app and tap More, then Settings.
- Under Alexa Preferences, tap Music & Podcasts, then Link New Service.
- Choose the provider. Enable it if prompted, sign in, and complete the on-screen steps.
If an account window does not appear, open the service’s settings and choose Link Account. Some providers require an existing account or subscription before linking. See Amazon’s account-linking instructions.
Set the default provider for your Alexa profile
To reduce the need to name a provider in every request, set the default service for the profile Alexa recognizes:

- In the Alexa app, tap More → Settings → Preferences → Music & Podcasts.
- Choose the profile tab, then tap Your Default Services.
- Select the provider you want Alexa to use by default.
Amazon says profile-specific defaults require a voice ID for each profile. Household members without a voice ID use family settings. The current directions are in Amazon’s Alexa profile settings guide.

Choose a podcast provider
Start with the service you already use, then check whether it is available in your marketplace, supports the show and Echo device, and requires an account or subscription. Amazon’s documentation does not provide a complete country-by-country podcast compatibility list, so service availability should not be assumed from music or book listings.

A show or playback command does not work
Check that both the Echo model and provider support podcast playback. Amazon limits podcast playback to supported devices and services; availability can vary by marketplace.

Check which Alexa profile is active and whether the person has a voice ID. Amazon requires voice IDs for profile-specific defaults.

You cannot link the provider
Check whether the service requires an existing account or subscription, then return to its service settings and use Link Account if the sign-in window did not open.
You are listening through Fire TV
Amazon’s Music comparison says podcast playback through Amazon Music is unavailable on Fire TV, even though music access is listed.
