On a dedicated Arma 3 server, an administrator can remove a connected player for the current session with the in-game #kick command, or create a server-local ban with #exec ban. For remote administration, BattlEye RCon uses players to find a player number, then kick, ban, or addBan. These controls require server-administration authority; an ordinary player cannot run them.

Choose the right kind of removal
“Kick” and “ban” are different actions. A kick ends the player’s current connection but does not, by itself, prevent a later join. A ban adds an identifier to a ban list so the server can refuse future connections. The scope depends on the administration path you use:

Kick a connected player from the in-game administrator console
The following procedure applies to dedicated-server administration commands. You need the server administrator password and must be authenticated as an administrator.

- Authenticate. Join the server and log in with the configured server administrator password.
- List players. Enter
#userlist. Note the target’s displayed name, server ID, or player number. Copy the identifier exactly; similar names are an easy way to remove the wrong person. - Kick the player. Use
#kick 3for an example numeric target, or#kick Nicknamefor a name target. The value must identify the intended connected player. Use the reason field offered by your administration interface when it is available. - Confirm the result. Run
#userlistagain or watch the player list to verify that the connection has ended. A kick is a one-session action, so the player may be able to reconnect.
The number shown by #userlist is the safest choice when names contain spaces, unusual characters, or duplicates. Treat it as a current-session identifier; do not assume it remains the same after a reconnect.
Ban a player locally with #exec ban
Use a local ban when you want this Arma 3 server to reject the player on future connection attempts. The official multiplayer command reference requires a quoted string for the target of #exec kick and #exec ban.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Run
#userlistand identify the player. - Enter one of these forms, replacing the example value with the exact target:
#exec ban "3",#exec ban "Nickname", or#exec ban "UID". - Keep the quotation marks. They are part of the command syntax for the target string, even when the value is numeric.
- Record why the action was taken and which identifier you used. This makes later appeals and unban decisions easier to handle.
The command adds the player ID to the server’s ban.txt. That is a ban maintained by this server, not a BattlEye-wide action. If you operate several servers, a local entry on one server does not automatically establish the same entry on the others.
#exec kick follows the same quoted-target rule when you need the execution form rather than the shorter #kick command: for example, #exec kick "Nickname". Use one administration path consistently so your staff know where the resulting record is stored.
Identify the right player before acting
Name
A name is easy to read but can be ambiguous. Players may use spaces, punctuation, or names that closely resemble another player. If you use a name with #exec ban or #exec kick, keep it inside the required quotation marks.

Server ID and player number
The in-game #userlist output provides identifiers you can use for an immediate action. BattlEye RCon has its own players listing and player numbers. Confirm the number in the same session and administration tool immediately before issuing the command; a disconnect and reconnect can change the displayed number.
UID, GUID, and IP address
A UID can be supplied as a quoted string to the local #exec ban command. BattlEye RCon’s addBan accepts a GUID or an IP address, which lets you create an entry even when the person is no longer connected. An IP can identify a network endpoint rather than a single person, so use it carefully where shared networks or changing addresses are possible.
Use BattlEye RCon for remote administration
RCon is the appropriate route when you are not in the game or need BattlEye’s timed-ban and ban-list controls. BattlEye documents three relevant server settings:
RConPortspecifies the port on which the RCon service listens.RConIPis optional and can restrict which address the service binds to.RConPasswordis required for authentication.
Configure those values in the server’s BattlEye settings, protect the password, and connect with an RCon client. Do not expose the RCon port more broadly than necessary.
Find a connected player
After authenticating, run:
players
The response lists connected players and their player numbers. Use the number from that current listing for the next command.

Kick with RCon
Use the documented form:
kick [player #] [reason]
Replace the bracketed fields with the number and a short reason. This removes the player from the current session but does not create a lasting ban.
Apply a timed or permanent RCon ban
For a connected player, use:
ban [player #] [time in minutes] [reason]
The time is measured in minutes. BattlEye documents an omitted time or 0 as a permanent ban. A positive value creates a timed ban, so write down the duration and start time if your staff need to review it later.
Ban an offline player
When the player is no longer connected, use:
addBan [GUID or IP address] [time in minutes] [reason]
This is different from ban: it targets a GUID or IP directly and does not require a current player number. Use the same time convention—an omitted value or 0 is permanent according to BattlEye’s reference.
Inspect and maintain the BattlEye list
RCon provides separate commands for checking and maintaining entries:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
bansdisplays the current BattlEye ban list.loadBansreloads entries from the ban-list file.writeBanswrites the current list so changes persist.removeBanremoves an entry when an appeal is accepted or an identifier was entered incorrectly.
Use bans after an action to verify the identifier and duration, and use writeBans when your operating procedure requires explicitly persisting changes.

Understand local bans versus BattlEye global bans
There are two separate authorities:
- Server owner or administrator: controls the Arma 3 server’s local ban list, including entries made through
#exec ban, and can manage BattlEye entries on that server through RCon. - BattlEye: administers global BattlEye bans. Bohemia Interactive states that it does not administer those global bans and directs global-ban questions to BattlEye.
A local ban can therefore affect one server while the player remains able to join another server. Conversely, a BattlEye global ban is not something a server administrator can cancel with removeBan or by editing the local ban.txt. Identify which message and authority applies before promising an appeal or unban.
Server-side scripting administration
Arma 3 also exposes a server-side administration scripting reference. The commands run in a VM separate from the ordinary game scripting environment:
users
kick userId reason
ban userId reason
unkick userId
unban userId
clearKicks
clearBans
users lists users available to the server-side administration VM. The kick and ban forms act on the supplied user ID and accept a reason; unkick and unban reverse the corresponding action where an entry exists. clearKicks and clearBans remove the respective collections, so treat them as broad administrative operations rather than routine single-player fixes.
Recommended Free Tools
Mission scripts cannot directly call these server-side commands merely because they run on the server. The scripting reference says a mission must compile a script containing a server command to use this VM. Keep that boundary in mind when a mission author reports that a command “does nothing”: the code may be running in the normal mission scripting environment rather than the server-administration VM.

| Situation | Recommended path | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You are in the game and need an immediate one-session removal | #userlist, then #kick |
Fast and does not create a lasting entry |
| You are in the game and want this server to reject future joins | #userlist, then quoted #exec ban |
Creates a local entry in ban.txt |
| You administer the server remotely | RCon players, then kick or ban |
Works without joining the game and supports timed bans |
| The offender is offline but you have a GUID or IP | RCon addBan |
Does not require a connected player number |
| You need automated policy enforcement | Server-side administration scripting | Can apply repeatable rules, provided the code runs in the correct VM |
| A player reports a global BattlEye ban | Refer the case to BattlEye | Global bans are administered by BattlEye, not the server owner |
Troubleshoot common failures
“Unknown command” or no response
- Confirm you are authenticated as the dedicated-server administrator. These commands are not ordinary player chat commands.
- Check that you are using the syntax for the path you chose. In-game commands begin with
#; RCon commands do not. - For
#exec kickand#exec ban, put the target in quotation marks. - If a script is involved, verify that it is executing in the server-side administration VM rather than only in the mission VM.
The wrong player was removed
Run #userlist or RCon players again immediately before acting. Prefer the current numeric identifier over a similar display name, and do not reuse a number from an earlier connection.
Best Value
The ban did not affect a reconnect
Check which ban system you used. A #kick is not a ban. A local #exec ban affects this server’s local list, while an RCon ban or addBan affects the BattlEye list. For RCon, inspect bans and, where required by your setup, run writeBans. Also verify that you banned the correct identifier and that a timed ban has not expired.
The player is offline
You cannot use a connected-player number after the connection has ended. Obtain the GUID or IP and use RCon addBan, or wait for the player to reconnect and identify the new number with players. The local in-game workflow is designed around identifying a player through #userlist.

Ask for the exact message and determine whether it refers to the server’s local ban or BattlEye. A server administrator can review and remove local entries and can manage that server’s BattlEye RCon list, but cannot administer a BattlEye global ban.
Administration practices that prevent mistakes
- Verify first: take a fresh player listing before every action.
- Use the narrowest action: kick for a one-session problem; use a timed ban when a permanent block is unnecessary.
- Record the identifier and reason: retain the name, numeric ID, UID/GUID or IP used, the command path, and the time.
- Protect RCon credentials: keep
RConPasswordprivate and limit access to the RCon port. - Separate authorities: tell players whether an action is local to your server or controlled by BattlEye.
- Review before clearing:
clearKicksandclearBansare broad scripting operations; use single-entry removal where possible. - Keep an appeal route: when an identifier was mistyped or circumstances change, use the relevant unban or removal control instead of silently editing unrelated records.
How a removed player can determine what happened
A disconnect without a lasting restriction is consistent with a session kick. A later rejection from one server points toward that server’s local ban list or its BattlEye list. A BattlEye global-ban message is handled by BattlEye rather than by the individual server owner. The server’s administrators are the right people to ask for the reason and local records; BattlEye is the authority for a global-ban case.
