That style leaves the bar at the bottom while apps are open.
That instruction does not establish a universal always-visible switch for the Samsung DeX desktop. Samsung’s One UI 6.0 guide says its auto-hide feature is not supported in DeX mode, while current DeX support pages do not document one taskbar-visibility control for every DeX release. First identify the mode and device before changing settings.

Start by identifying which taskbar you are changing
Galaxy devices can present a taskbar in regular mobile/tablet mode and a different bar in the DeX desktop interface. The setting documented most clearly by Samsung applies to the regular Galaxy taskbar. It is easy to follow those instructions while the device is in DeX and conclude that the option is missing or ineffective.

- Samsung DeX: the device is using the desktop-style interface, either on its own display or through a connected monitor. Samsung’s published material does not establish one universal taskbar-visibility switch for all DeX versions and devices.
The exact question “is there an option to hide Taskbar in dex mode?” has two opposite interpretations: someone may want the bar to stay visible, or may want it hidden. The answer depends on whether the request concerns the regular Galaxy taskbar or the DeX desktop bar.

Set the regular Galaxy taskbar to stay visible
Use this sequence while the device is in its normal Galaxy interface, not in DeX:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Taskbar.
- Open Taskbar style.
- Select Stay on screen. Some software builds capitalize the label as Stay on Screen.
After the selection is applied, the regular taskbar remains displayed at the bottom while apps are open. This is the direct setting Samsung describes for an always-present taskbar on supported Galaxy software.
What the two styles mean

The table describes visibility, not app behavior. Choosing Stay on screen does not pin an app window, change DeX multitasking, or create a new control inside every desktop session. It changes the regular Galaxy taskbar style where the option is provided.

Samsung’s Android 14 / One UI 6.0 Upgrade Customer Consultant Guide, updated October 30, 2023, documents Auto hide and Stay on screen for the regular taskbar and includes the sentence: “The feature isn’t supported in DeX mode.” In context, that warning means the documented auto-hide/taskbar-style feature should not be treated as a DeX setting.

Consequently, selecting Stay on screen before launching DeX is not proof that the DeX desktop bar will obey the same preference. Samsung’s current support page titled Access apps in Samsung DeX explains DeX app controls but does not establish a single taskbar-visibility setting shared by all DeX releases. The separate support page Use the Samsung DeX screen on your Galaxy phone or tablet provides mode and software context, not a universal always-visible taskbar command.
If the DeX bar disappears while an app is active, there is no documented cross-device switch that can be guaranteed to force it to remain visible. Avoid treating the regular Galaxy menu as a missing DeX feature: the two interfaces are governed by different controls, and Samsung’s own guide limits the cited taskbar feature outside DeX.
Use the right workflow for your goal
You want the bar visible in ordinary Galaxy mode
Leave DeX, return to the standard One UI interface, and follow the five-step path above. Stay on screen is the relevant choice when the taskbar you see is the regular Galaxy taskbar.
You want the DeX desktop bar visible
Check whether your specific DeX release exposes a taskbar preference in its own settings or quick controls. The cited Samsung material does not name one universal location or label, so do not assume that every phone, tablet, monitor connection, or One UI release will show the same control. If no DeX-specific option appears, the available behavior is determined by that model and software build.

You want the DeX bar hidden instead
Do not select Stay on screen expecting it to hide DeX. That option has the opposite purpose and is documented for the regular taskbar. Samsung’s statement about Auto hide being unsupported in DeX also means the regular auto-hide instruction cannot be used as a guaranteed DeX hiding method.
When “Stay on screen” is missing
An absent menu does not by itself indicate a fault. Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm the interface. If the screen is in DeX, exit to regular Galaxy mode before looking for Settings > Display > Taskbar. The strongest published instructions apply to that regular interface.
- Check the model. Samsung does not promise that every Galaxy phone or tablet exposes identical taskbar styles. A Samsung Members post dated August 13, 2026, gives the path and the Stay on Screen label for the Galaxy Z Fold8 family; it is device-specific community guidance, not evidence that every model has the same menu.
- Check the software version. Taskbar labels and locations can depend on One UI and Android versions. Compare the device’s installed version with the guide that applies to it rather than assuming a menu from another release will be present.
- Check navigation settings. Samsung specifically limits Auto hide to gesture-navigation users. If you are looking for Auto hide while using another navigation method, its absence may be expected. That qualification does not turn Auto hide into a DeX control.
- Recheck after switching modes. A setting visible in regular Galaxy mode should not be used as evidence that the same setting exists in DeX. Evaluate the taskbar only in the interface for which the control is documented.

Navigation requirements and practical implications
The navigation qualification matters because Auto hide is often mistaken for a general taskbar preference. Samsung’s guide says Auto hide is available only for users of gesture navigation. If your aim is simply to keep the bar visible, choose Stay on screen where that style is offered; changing navigation solely to obtain Auto hide addresses the opposite visibility preference.
In regular Galaxy mode, a permanently visible taskbar can make app switching and launching more immediate because the bar remains on screen. It also consumes a strip along the bottom edge, so the choice is a visibility trade-off rather than a performance setting. The documented style changes presentation; it does not alter the application itself.

In DeX, treat the desktop bar as a separate behavior. The cited documentation does not say that choosing a regular taskbar style reserves space for the DeX bar, nor does it provide a universal command to keep that bar visible over every app window. This is why a setting that works exactly as expected in One UI may appear to do nothing after a DeX session starts.

Samsung’s Galaxy software is not a single, uniform interface. The availability of Taskbar style depends on the device and software combination. The August 13, 2026 Samsung Members post about the Galaxy Z Fold8 series is useful for confirming the menu on that family, but it should be read as model-specific guidance. It does not establish that an older phone, a tablet, or another Fold generation will expose identical wording.
There is also a separate DeX for PC compatibility boundary: Samsung support notes that DeX for PC is not supported on models running Android 15 with One UI 7 or later. That is a connection-compatibility statement, not proof about whether a taskbar is visible in every form of DeX. If your issue is connecting to a Windows or Mac computer, resolve that support limitation first; it should not be used to infer a taskbar setting for on-device DeX or an external-monitor session.

- Identify the screen: standard Galaxy interface or DeX desktop.
- Identify the desired result: keep the regular bar visible, hide it, or change DeX behavior.
- Use the documented control only for its documented scope: Stay on screen belongs to the supported regular Galaxy taskbar.
- Verify model and One UI version: labels and availability are not guaranteed to match across devices.
- Separate DeX for PC connectivity from visibility: Android 15 with One UI 7 or later has a documented DeX for PC support limitation on affected models, but that does not answer every taskbar question.
Common mistakes and the correct interpretation
Looking for Taskbar style inside DeX
The regular path may not appear because the device is in DeX. Return to the standard Galaxy interface before checking Display settings. If the goal remains a visible DeX bar, look for a DeX-specific control on that release; Samsung’s cited pages do not guarantee one shared location.
Assuming Auto hide is a DeX switch
Samsung explicitly says the feature is not supported in DeX mode. Auto hide is therefore not a reliable way to control DeX taskbar visibility, regardless of whether the regular taskbar offers that style.
Assuming a Fold8 instruction applies everywhere
The Galaxy Z Fold8 community post demonstrates the menu on that family. It does not establish universal availability. Use the device model and installed One UI version as the deciding context.
Confusing a missing connection with a hidden bar
If DeX for PC will not connect on a model running Android 15 with One UI 7 or later, that is the documented compatibility issue. A connection that is unsupported cannot be repaired by changing the regular taskbar style.

For a supported Galaxy device in regular mode, the actionable setting is Settings > Display > Taskbar > Taskbar style > Stay on screen. It keeps the regular taskbar displayed while apps are open. Samsung’s One UI 6.0 guide limits Auto hide to gesture-navigation users and states that the feature is not supported in DeX mode.
For the DeX desktop itself, Samsung’s current documentation does not establish a universal always-visible taskbar option. If the menu is absent or the bar behaves differently, check whether you are in DeX, then verify the exact model and One UI version. That distinction prevents a regular Galaxy setting from being mistaken for a DeX control.
