To keep Larix Broadcaster streaming while your Android screen is off, start the stream, enable Larix’s background-streaming option if it is available in your installed edition, and lock the display without closing the app. If the stream stops, check Android’s battery and background restrictions for Larix; avoid the Restricted battery state.
Set up Larix for screen-off streaming
- Start the stream first. Open Larix Broadcaster, configure and start your stream, and confirm that it is actually live before turning off the display.
- Check for Larix background streaming. In Larix settings, look for the background-streaming option and enable it if it is available. Softvelum’s current Larix for Android page lists “Background streaming when app is not in focus” as a premium feature. Check your installed edition and the options shown in the app; menu labels and availability may differ. Softvelum also provides a tutorial link on its Android page, but there is no universal tap-by-tap path established here.
- Lock the screen, but leave Larix open. Larix’s Android FAQ says background operation continues until the app is explicitly closed. Backgrounding the app or locking the display is not the same as closing it: do not swipe Larix away or otherwise explicitly close it during the stream.
If the stream stops after the screen turns off
Check whether Android is restricting Larix’s background activity. Android documents that the Restricted battery state prevents an app from running in the background; the exact controls and their effects can vary by phone manufacturer. Open your device’s app-specific battery or background settings for Larix and make sure it is not set to Restricted. Android’s guidance is available at Manage your app’s power use.

Settings names and locations differ across Android devices, so there is no single menu path that applies to every phone. Changing a battery setting may help when a restriction is the cause, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted stream. The available guidance does not establish that any particular battery exception is necessary or sufficient on every device.

Screen off is not the same as CPU asleep
Turning off the display does not necessarily mean the phone’s processor is asleep. Android’s wake-lock guidance explains that wake locks can keep the CPU running and drain the battery, so they should be used sparingly. For a long stream, expect battery life and heat to matter; the screen-off setting by itself does not promise the phone will maintain every part of a stream.

Audio-only is a different fallback
If your broadcast does not need a picture, Larix offers audio-only capture for background use. Softvelum says this disables the preview and sends no video. It is not a way to keep a video stream visible while the screen is off; use it only when audio alone is suitable. See the Larix Android feature details.
Common causes and fixes
