To keep game audio and commentary consistent across YouTube reruns, use the same source gains and mix template, compare the same kinds of gameplay moments, and check speech clarity, loudness, peaks, and mono playback separately. YouTube does not specify an integrated-loudness or true-peak target for gaming reruns, so treat loudness frameworks as production tools—not platform rules.
Build a repeatable mix, not a one-off level adjustment
Keep commentary and game audio on separate tracks while recording or editing whenever your setup allows. That lets you adjust the voice without changing game effects or music, and vice versa. Once a mix works, keep its source gains and processing consistent from rerun to rerun unless the microphone, room, game, or capture chain has changed.

Start with intelligibility: the commentary should be understandable during quiet scenes and busy gameplay without making the listener reach for the volume control. Adjust game effects or music that mask speech. If the voice level varies substantially, use gentle compression or automation, then listen for pumping—an audible rise and fall in the background as the compressor reacts to speech.
Compare equivalent moments across reruns
Choose reference moments that represent different listening conditions. Compare the same kinds of moments in each rerun rather than judging one mix from a quiet scene and another from an explosion or music cue.

- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
- A quiet section, to check whether the voice remains present without making the game sound unnaturally loud.
- Normal gameplay, to judge the usual commentary-to-game balance.
- A loud effect or music passage, to catch harsh peaks or masking.
- A moment when commentary overlaps busy game audio, to verify that the words remain understandable.
Use a loudness meter to compare the overall level of equivalent passages, and a true-peak meter or limiter to catch overloads. These answer different questions: a peak reading alone does not tell you how loud a passage sounds overall. The European Broadcasting Union’s R 128 loudness guidance and its production guidelines distinguish loudness normalization from peak normalization and discuss true-peak limiting for streaming. They can inform production, but are not YouTube requirements for gameplay reruns.
Run the same quality checks on every export
| Check | What to compare | What a mismatch can indicate |
|---|---|---|
| Speech intelligibility | Can you follow the commentary in quiet and loud gameplay? | Game audio masks speech, voice level varies, or commentary processing changed. |
| Overall loudness | Do equivalent passages sound similarly loud across reruns? | Source gain, balance, or dynamics processing changed. |
| Peaks | Do loud effects or voice peaks overload or trigger harsh limiting? | There may be too little headroom or inconsistent peak control. |
| Mono compatibility | Does the mix remain clear when collapsed to one channel? | Phase cancellation or problematic stereo processing may be affecting the mix. |
| YouTube playback | Does playback after upload differ from the local export, especially with audio enhancements? | Player enhancement behavior may be affecting what a viewer hears. |
Listen through the complete export in stereo, then check it in mono. YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance says to make sure audio is “in phase”; it also warns that mono conversion can reduce quality or mute audio on devices with one speaker. After upload processing, compare YouTube playback with your local export. YouTube describes Stable volume as continuously balancing quiet and loud levels to reduce variations, and also offers Voice boost. Those playback enhancements can change what an individual viewer hears; they are not substitutes for a clear, consistent source mix. YouTube explains the enhancements in Video & audio quality enhancements and the viewer controls in Control video volume on your device.

Save a template and troubleshoot changes
When a rerun passes your listening checks, preserve its source gains, processing chain, and export settings as a template. Revisit them if the microphone, recording environment, game audio, or capture setup changes.
- Commentary disappears during action: Lower masking game effects or music, or adjust the voice gently. Recheck a loud overlap passage rather than raising every track indiscriminately.
- Voice sounds uneven between reruns: Compare the same quiet and normal-play sections. Confirm source gain and processing match; use restrained compression or automation if needed.
- Loud effects sound harsh: Inspect true peaks and limiter behavior. Inconsistent peak control or inadequate headroom may be the cause.
- Audio weakens or disappears on a phone or other single-speaker device: Check the export in mono and inspect stereo processing and phase relationships.
- YouTube playback differs from the local file: Compare the uploaded playback and account for Stable volume or Voice boost before making changes to the source mix.
