Why playlist clips can sound uneven
Videos may have different recording levels, dynamics, or mixes, so one clip can sound much louder or quieter than the next even when both look acceptable on a meter. Matching peak readings alone does not guarantee matching perceived loudness.

Wirecast supports playlist-based production and audio mixing, but the exact way to reach a source-level control depends on the installed version. Telestream’s detailed explanation of individual Live Audio controls and a Stream Volume master control appears in its December 2012 Wirecast for YouTube guide. Treat that as a description of the mixing concept, not a current click-by-click map; confirm the labels and placement in your version.

Balance clips before going live
1. Listen to representative sections
Preview the loudest and quietest portions of each playlist item, including the beginning and end. Pay particular attention to the handoff between clips: a transition can reveal a sudden jump that is less obvious when listening to each video separately.
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
2. Adjust an individual source when available
In Wirecast, look for an audio level control associated with the relevant clip or source, if your release exposes one. Adjusting a source changes that source relative to the rest of the mix. If several playlist items share one source and cannot be adjusted independently there, prepare the files before importing them: adjust their levels in an audio or video editor, export the balanced versions, and use those files in the playlist. This is an alternative production workflow, not a confirmed Wirecast playlist feature.
Do not assume Wirecast automatically loudness-normalizes each playlist item. The available product descriptions establish playlist and audio-mixing capabilities, but do not establish automatic per-clip normalization or a verified current-version per-clip gain procedure. Telestream’s Wirecast product information describes playlists and audio channels; consult the documentation for your installed release for its precise controls.

- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
3. Set the overall stream level last
Once the clips are reasonably balanced against one another, use the master stream control to set the combined output level. A master control affects all stream audio together, so using it to fix one unusually loud or quiet item shifts every other source as well.
4. Test transitions in YouTube
Before the event, start a private or unlisted test stream if your setup permits. Open YouTube’s Live Control Room, check the preview, and listen through playlist transitions. YouTube advises creators to preview and monitor the stream; its guidance says, “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” See YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.

- High-performance A/D converter with resolution up to 24-bit/192 kHz provides crystal-clear output for voice and instruments
- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ¼"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
Monitor audio during the broadcast
Continue listening as the playlist advances. If one transition is noticeably louder or quieter, make a cautious source-level adjustment if your current Wirecast setup allows it. Avoid compensating for a single clip with the master control, since that changes the whole mix.
Telestream’s Wirecast version history describes its meters as using a consistent dBFS scale and says levels turn yellow at -6 dB and red above -1 dB. These thresholds are from a version-history entry, not YouTube guidance; verify meter behavior and thresholds against your installed release. Meter peaks are useful for spotting possible overloads, but they do not by themselves establish perceived loudness or a universal target level.

Choose where to make the adjustment
| Workflow | Useful when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Adjust a source in Wirecast | Your installed version exposes separate controls for the relevant sources and you need to make changes during production. | Control availability and labels vary by version; changing levels live requires attentive monitoring. |
| Prepare files before import | Playlist items share a source or you want the same prepared files to behave consistently in future streams. | It takes preparation and export time before the show; this is an external workflow, not a Wirecast feature claim. |
| Adjust the master stream level | The overall mix is uniformly too high or low after clip-to-clip balance is established. | It moves all stream audio together and will not resolve differences between playlist items. |
Troubleshooting level jumps and clipping
- One clip is much louder than the next: Balance that source separately if possible, or prepare the file before import. Do not rely on a master adjustment to correct only that clip.
- The whole stream is too loud or too quiet: After checking the individual sources, adjust the master stream level and recheck the YouTube preview.
- Audio jumps at a playlist boundary: Listen to the start and end of both adjacent items in a test stream. Adjust the relevant source or revise the files before the live event.
- The meter looks safe but loudness still feels inconsistent: Peak meters do not fully describe perceived loudness. Compare the program by listening across representative sections rather than matching peak readings alone.
- You cannot find a per-clip setting: Wirecast control placement and labels depend on version, and a current per-clip playlist gain path is not established here. Check your release’s documentation; file-level preparation is an alternative.
