To keep an OBS playlist live on YouTube over Airtel broadband, set OBS to a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously—not merely one that fits the plan’s advertised speed. Use YouTube’s live-stream settings, leave upload headroom, test the actual playlist, and watch OBS dropped frames alongside YouTube’s stream health. Airtel’s published speed is a maximum, not a guarantee of sustained upload capacity.
Set OBS for the connection you actually have
Choose the playlist’s intended output resolution and frame rate, then select a bitrate that remains below your real, stable outbound capacity. YouTube’s recommendations are useful targets, not proof that an internet connection can sustain them. Its live encoder guidance lists these H.264 recommended bitrates:

| Output resolution and frame rate | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps |
| 480p30 | 3 Mbps |
| 360p30 | 3 Mbps |
These figures are YouTube Help’s live H.264 recommendations, not measurements of Airtel performance. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current guidance and minimums. Choosing a lower resolution or bitrate can be a sensible stability trade-off; do not assume a minimum value will make an unstable connection reliable.

Protocol, encoder, and keyframes
YouTube’s live guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps. For a straightforward OBS setup, configure a supported codec and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. The live encoder page is the relevant reference for an OBS broadcast; YouTube’s separate upload-encoding advice is for prerecorded files.

Use upload speed, not download speed
YouTube says to allow 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. The total includes audio as well as video, and other devices or applications may use upload capacity at the same time. For example, a 6 Mbps video stream plus audio needs more than 6 Mbps of stable outbound capacity; configuring OBS right at a speed-test result leaves no margin for variation. That example is arithmetic guidance, not a measured Airtel result.
Test upload from the streaming computer or its network, preferably at times when the connection is normally busy. If upload fluctuates or other people share the line, choose a lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate until there is practical margin. A fast download test does not establish that the line can continuously send a live stream.

Build and test the playlist scene before going live
- Set up the scene and playlist in OBS. Confirm that the playlist source advances as intended, audio is present at a usable level, and transitions do not reveal an unintended blank or desktop. Check the output resolution, frame rate, codec, CBR mode, bitrate, and two-second keyframe interval against the connection you measured.
- Start a private or unlisted YouTube test. Use the channel’s live setup and stream key in OBS, taking care not to share the key. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream. Run the actual playlist rather than checking only a static scene.
- Watch both ends of the stream. Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and OBS’s dropped-frame indicator during the test. Include normal playlist transitions and representative network activity.
- Adjust and test again if needed. If upload is unstable or OBS dropped frames increase, reduce the configured bitrate or output demands, then repeat the test. A short successful test cannot prove long-term ISP stability; there is no universally specified test duration.
A mostly still playlist graphic may use little visual movement, but its audio, source changes, and local network conditions still matter. YouTube’s advice is to test the stream before starting and to monitor stream health during the event.

Diagnose dropped frames and buffering
If OBS dropped frames are increasing
OBS Project explains: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” In other words, investigate the path from the streaming computer to YouTube’s ingest server and whether the selected bitrate exceeds what the connection can sustain. OBS notes that connection problems are typically outside the application’s control. Its stream connection troubleshooting guide covers further checks.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
- Reduce the bitrate or output quality. Make the change based on upload observed under realistic conditions, not just the advertised plan speed.
- Check the local link. If the computer is on Wi-Fi and can connect by Ethernet, testing a cable can help isolate wireless instability. It cannot increase Airtel upstream capacity or fix ISP congestion or a route problem.
- Try another YouTube ingest server if available in your encoder setup. This can help identify a route-specific issue, but is not a guaranteed fix.
- Consider dynamic bitrate cautiously. OBS offers Windows-only network optimization and TCP pacing options, as well as dynamic bitrate. Dynamic bitrate may reduce quality during congestion to help maintain continuity; OBS cautions that it does not resolve the underlying cause. If steady image quality matters more, a lower fixed bitrate that fits weak periods may be preferable.
If viewers report buffering but OBS is healthy
Broadcaster-to-ingest dropped frames and viewer-side playback buffering are different problems. A viewer’s device and network may buffer even while OBS shows no dropped frames and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream. YouTube also notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering. If the incoming stream is healthy, first investigate the affected viewers’ playback conditions rather than repeatedly lowering the broadcaster’s bitrate without evidence.
What Airtel broadband speeds do—and do not—tell you
Airtel’s broadband page lists advertised speed tiers and makes availability dependent on location. Its terms describe listed speeds as maximum prescribed speeds and say actual delivery can vary for reasons including congestion and technical conditions. Therefore, a nominal plan speed does not establish a specific upload rate, stable capacity, or a clean route to YouTube. Measure the actual connection; if tests show a persistent problem, ask Airtel about service conditions for your line and locality.

- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Airtel’s Xstream Fiber terms list a 3,333 GB fair-usage threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced, and say the policy may be amended. Confirm the terms applicable to your plan and locality. A stream’s data use depends on its bitrate and duration, alongside other traffic counted against the same allowance; there is no single useful estimate without those details. See Airtel Xstream Fiber terms and conditions and Airtel broadband plans and availability.
Choose settings by balancing continuity and quality
- Resolution and frame rate: Use 1080p or 720p, and 30 or 60 fps, according to visual needs and the upload margin you can maintain.
- Fixed versus dynamic bitrate: A lower fixed CBR value prioritizes consistent quality; dynamic bitrate can lower quality during congestion in an effort to preserve continuity.
- Ethernet versus Wi-Fi: Ethernet can remove some wireless-link variability where the setup permits, but does not solve upstream limits beyond the home network.
- Latency versus playback stability: Prioritize interaction only if the broadcast needs it; lower latency can mean more viewer buffering.
- Plan speed versus observed results: Compare address-specific availability and measured upload behavior, not just the advertised maximum or download speed.
There is no single best OBS bitrate or Airtel plan for every channel. The right setting depends on the playlist’s visual requirements and the weakest upload conditions you observe.
