Why a playlist ending can end your livestream
A YouTube livestream has two separate parts: the program content and the live connection. The playlist is the content source; the encoder sends that content to YouTube. If the final track finishes and the playback system stops producing output, the encoder may stop sending valid content and the livestream can end. YouTube’s instructions for looping a playlist describe viewer-side playback, not livestream continuity (YouTube Help: loop videos and playlists; YouTube Help: live encoder settings).

So the key is not just to make the playlist repeat. The source feeding the encoder must keep providing audio and video, and the encoder must remain connected.
How do I keep a YouTube livestream from ending?
- Confirm your channel can livestream. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The minimum age to livestream is 16. Check the current eligibility details in YouTube Help: get started with live streaming.
- Enable repeat in the software that plays the radio playlist. Find the repeat or loop control in the playback or streaming software feeding your encoder. If you want a different program after the last track, configure a valid fallback source, such as an allowed music bed or slate. The exact setting depends on the software you use; YouTube does not document one universal third-party encoder recipe.
- Check the encoder and stream settings in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and verify the selected stream key and stream settings. Review the auto-start and auto-stop choices too: those control starting or stopping an encoder stream, not whether its playlist repeats. If you reuse stream settings, YouTube copies the previous selections, so check them for each new stream (YouTube Help: live encoder settings).
- Test the end of the playlist before relying on it. Start a private or unlisted test stream and let the source reach its final track. Check that the playback system continues sending content and that the watch page remains live. A test verifies your particular setup; it is not a guarantee against later encoder, network, or source failures.
- Monitor the stream. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and confirm that audio and video are present. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, checking the preview, and monitoring the broadcast; where a production setup has failover, test it before an unattended stream (YouTube Help: encoder setup and live streaming; YouTube Help: live stream health; YouTube Help: live streaming tips).
How do I loop music on a YouTube livestream?
Turn on repeat in the program that plays the music and supplies it to the encoder. YouTube’s playlist Loop control is for repeating a playlist during playback by a viewer; it is not a setting for sustaining the live encoder feed. If your playback software cannot repeat reliably, configure an appropriate fallback source so the encoder continues to receive valid content after the final track. Confirm that you have the rights needed to broadcast every track and any fallback material; a working loop does not establish permission to stream it.

What happens when my livestream playlist ends?
It depends on what the playback system does next. If it repeats the playlist or moves to another active source, the encoder can continue sending content. If playback stops and the encoder stops transmitting, the live stream can end. YouTube’s auto-stop setting may affect stream stopping behavior, but it does not restart or repeat a finished playlist.

Plan the stream’s ending separately from playlist continuity. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance is not a stated maximum runtime. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable; that is a separate behavior from archiving (YouTube Help: live encoder settings; YouTube Help: DVR on live streams).

If you intend to end the radio stream, YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers to a Premiere or another live stream after the current stream ends, subject to eligibility. It is an option for routing viewers at a planned ending, not a way to keep the current playlist or livestream running (YouTube Help: Live Redirect).
