If you mean adding episodes to an ongoing YouTube podcast, connect the show’s RSS feed in YouTube Studio where RSS delivery is available; new eligible episodes added to the feed can then upload automatically. If you mean a literal live broadcast that stays on air, that is a separate encoder-based workflow—not the way YouTube’s podcast RSS feature works.
Choose the right kind of “running”
| What you want | Use | What happens when you add an episode |
|---|---|---|
| A podcast catalog that grows over time | A YouTube podcast playlist, optionally connected to an RSS feed | New eligible feed episodes can upload automatically after setup. Availability depends on your region and feed configuration. YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed |
| A broadcast continuously on air | YouTube Live with an encoder configured in Live Control Room | This is a live production workflow, not RSS episode publishing. The guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings |
A YouTube podcast is a playlist of full-length video episodes. Clips and Shorts do not belong in the full-episode podcast playlist. An MP3 alone cannot be added as a podcast episode through Studio; add or upload a video, or use RSS delivery to have YouTube create a static-image video from audio episodes. YouTube Help: Create a podcast in YouTube Studio
Set up the podcast and connect its RSS feed
1. Create or identify the podcast playlist
In YouTube Studio, create a podcast or assign podcast features to an existing playlist. Keep the playlist focused on full-length episodes in listening order. For the playlist workflow and eligibility details, see YouTube Help: Distribute podcasts on YouTube.
2. Connect the feed to the show
- In Studio, open Content > Podcasts, select the podcast, then open Details > RSS settings.
- Enter or connect the show’s RSS feed and verify feed ownership using the email code sent to the feed owner.
- Choose the episodes to publish from the feed. If episodes already exist on YouTube, select feed episodes after the latest one already published there to avoid duplicates.
- Set the default visibility for newly delivered episodes to private, unlisted, or public. New episodes use this setting.
- Let selected episodes finish uploading and review them for copyright or monetization issues before publishing, as YouTube recommends.
RSS delivery is available only in selected countries and regions. The exact Studio options may therefore differ by account location. YouTube’s setup and management instructions are at Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed and Publish or disconnect episodes from an RSS feed on YouTube.

What happens when you add or change episodes
New episodes
After the RSS feed is connected and the selected episodes are published, YouTube can upload new episodes added to that feed automatically. Eligible subscribers can be notified of new episodes. RSS delivery sends the podcast to YouTube and YouTube Music; it does not replace distribution on other podcast platforms.
Back-catalog episodes
You can select additional episodes from the podcast’s Studio details page. Subscribers are not notified when older back-catalog episodes are added through RSS. For an existing YouTube podcast, selecting only episodes newer than the latest already-published episode helps prevent duplicate uploads.

Revised audio or episode details
Replacing an audio file in the RSS feed does not update audio in a YouTube video that has already been published. Use Re-upload from RSS feed to make a replacement video. YouTube sets the previous video to private; its views and comments remain available to you.
If you edit episode details directly in Studio, later edits to those details in the feed are blocked. Disconnecting the feed stops future episodes from being uploaded. Plan which system—Studio or the RSS feed—will manage episode metadata before making manual edits.

Episode order and dates
YouTube orders RSS-uploaded episodes in the podcast playlist by feed release date when one is present; otherwise it uses YouTube’s publish date. YouTube does not verify the feed’s release date. The channel’s Videos tab uses YouTube upload date, so a large archive migration may appear differently in the playlist and Videos tab.
Copyright, monetization, and sponsorship checks
- Review selected episodes for copyright or monetization issues before publishing them.
- If an episode includes branded content, sponsorship, or an endorsement, disclose branded content and follow YouTube’s policies.
- For RSS delivery, check the rendered static-image video and episode details before making episodes public.
These checks matter whether an episode is uploaded from a feed or added as a video; automatic delivery does not remove the creator’s responsibility for the published material.

If you mean a literal always-on live broadcast
Use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and an encoder configured with the stream URL and stream key. You can reuse stream settings and configure auto-start and auto-stop. This is separate from a podcast playlist or RSS feed; YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not establish a 24/7 uptime guarantee.
YouTube recommends testing, previewing, verifying access, and monitoring audio and video quality. For higher-production events it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders, but that recommendation does not mean every creator needs dedicated encoder hardware. See YouTube live streaming tips – Computer and Manage live stream settings.
