Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A corrupted local gameplay recording does not automatically mean your YouTube live stream or its replay is lost. They are separate artifacts: check the live feed or YouTube archive independently, then preserve the damaged file and look for a backup. If the stream is still live, troubleshoot the outgoing feed rather than expecting a restart to repair the recording.
First identify what is damaged
“Replay” can mean the live feed viewers are watching, the archive YouTube processes after the event, or the gameplay file saved on your computer. These are different things. YouTube’s encoder guidance treats the encoder as the source sending content to the live event, while its troubleshooting guidance separately addresses encoder output and local archive problems. A damaged local file alone does not establish that the live page or a completed YouTube archive has failed.

- Live feed: Check the YouTube watch page, its preview and live status, and the encoder’s audio and video output.
- YouTube archive: If the event has ended, check its status in YouTube Studio’s Live tab and open the watch page.
- Local recording: Check whether the file opens and plays, and whether its size stopped growing or the recording application reported an error.
Check whether YouTube has an archive
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, so an archive is a possible recovery source, not a guarantee. The 12-hour figure is an operational threshold stated by YouTube; the support page does not state a publication year. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams.
- After the event ends, open YouTube Studio and select Content, then the Live tab.
- Find the event and check whether an archive is available or still processing.
- Open the event’s watch page to confirm whether viewers can play the replay.
- If no archive appears, allow for processing and check again. For a stream longer than 12 hours, keep in mind YouTube warns it may not have been captured.
YouTube Help recommends recording a local archive as a backup. That backup is useful only if it is intact; neither the local copy nor the YouTube archive is guaranteed to recover a damaged file.

If the stream is still live, check the feed separately
Do not restart or stop the live event merely because the local recording looks corrupted. First determine whether the outgoing feed is healthy. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance includes checking encoder errors, CPU load, the local archive for audio or video problems, and outbound internet when encoder output looks healthy. These are diagnostic checks, not a published repair recipe for a corrupted file.
- Look at the YouTube live preview and status, and confirm the encoder is actually sending the intended gameplay audio and video.
- Check the encoder’s error messages and the computer’s CPU load. Heavy load or an encoder error can affect the outgoing stream.
- If the encoder output looks healthy but YouTube reports trouble, inspect the outbound internet connection.
- Assess the local archive independently. Problems in that saved file do not, by themselves, show that the live feed is broken.

Preserve the corrupted file and look for other copies
There is no universal repair command for every corrupted gameplay recording. The file format, encoder, application, error and failure cause all matter, and YouTube’s support guidance does not provide a general local-file repair method. Before trying recovery software or editing tools, keep the original unchanged and work from a copy.
- Make a copy of the damaged file to another location, if the drive is readable; avoid overwriting the original.
- Write down the file extension, the recording application and version, encoder, approximate recording time, and the exact error message.
- Check independent copies: the YouTube archive, a separate local archive, or another backup. YouTube recommends a local archive backup, but does not promise it will be usable or that it can reconstruct a damaged recording.
- Do not assume that restarting the stream, changing a setting, or running a particular command will repair the saved file. Choose a repair approach only after identifying the format and cause, and consult the documentation for the relevant recording or repair tool.
Prevent the same problem on future gameplay streams
YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring an encoder event, verifying local archive integrity, and checking that the local archive file size is growing during the stream. Its guidance also says to stop the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube. Before shutting down the setup, check both the watch page and the local recording.

- Easily store and access 1TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive.Specific uses: Personal
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop. Reformatting may be required for Mac
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- Before going live, preview the encoder output so you can catch audio or video issues early.
- During the event, monitor YouTube’s stream status and confirm the local archive is intact and increasing in size.
- Keep an independent backup where practical. YouTube recommends a local archive but does not specify a drive type, capacity, or brand.
- At the end, confirm the event has stopped on YouTube, check the watch page and recording, and then stop the encoder.

Understand live DVR versus the replay
DVR lets viewers rewind during a live stream; it is not the same thing as the completed archive. YouTube says turning DVR off does not prevent viewers from seeing an eventual recording. DVR features can be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded gameplay videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it handles uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed.
