To protect your NYT Wordle streak, finish the original daily puzzle before midnight where you are, and use hints that narrow the possibilities without showing the solution. Wordle gives you six tries to guess a five-letter word; its letter-and-position feedback is enough to guide a solve without needing an answer reveal.
What keeps a Wordle streak going?
Play the original daily puzzle and complete it before the local day changes. NYT help material surfaced in a copy of its guidance says finishing after midnight local time breaks the streak and starts a new one. Because the rollover detail comes from a copy hosted outside NYT rather than a directly opened live help page, treat it as practical guidance, not a quoted official statement.

Set a recurring reminder with a comfortable buffer before local midnight, especially if you tend to play late or are traveling. A reminder avoids relying on memory when the day is close to rolling over.

NYT Games app and help materials describe Wordle statistics and streak tracking. If you want progress associated with your NYT account, play through the official NYT Games app or site and check that you are signed into the intended account. The available descriptions do not establish every cross-device synchronization behavior, so do not assume a particular sign-in or device switch will preserve every edge case.

The displayed Wordle stats include Played, Win %, Current Streak, and Max Streak, according to the surfaced copy of NYT help content. The labels can help you distinguish a current run from your longest one.
Use hints in stages instead of asking for the word
A useful hint should reduce uncertainty without doing the solve for you. Ask for the least specific clue that will help, then move to a stronger tier only if you are still stuck.

- Category or context: Ask what broad topic, usage, or kind of thing the answer relates to, without naming the answer.
- Letter property: Ask whether a particular letter is present, repeated, or a vowel or consonant. Avoid requesting a complete list of plausible words.
- Position or sound: Ask for a constraint such as whether a known letter is in the first or last position, or whether the word has a particular sound pattern.
- Near-reveal: Request a stronger clue only when you deliberately want one. Put it behind a clear spoiler warning or reveal control if sharing it with others.
This is a practical hint ladder, not an official NYT feature. Its purpose is to let you choose how much help you receive.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteHow to avoid accidental spoilers
- Do not put the answer or a word list in a hint, message preview, or page heading.
- Avoid giving the first letters when those letters would identify the solution immediately.
- Be cautious with unusually specific clues: a supposedly indirect description can leave only one plausible word.
- Do not share a screenshot if it shows the solution or otherwise gives away the board state.
- If publishing or sending a stronger clue, place it after a conspicuous spoiler barrier so readers can stop before revealing it.
Do bonus puzzles protect the daily streak?
No. NYT says bonus-puzzle play does not affect the stats or streak for the original daily puzzles. A bonus puzzle can be separate practice or entertainment, but it does not replace completing the original daily puzzle for streak purposes.
