If a video ends but you want your YouTube broadcast to continue, keep the vMix stream live and make playback move on to another video or loop the sequence. Use vMix PlayList for a small group of loaded inputs, or a List input for a video sequence that should play back-to-back and repeat. Do not finish the vMix stream unless you intend to end the YouTube broadcast too.
Why the stream ends when playback stops
A video reaching its end and an encoder ending a broadcast are different events. The video can finish while the broadcast stays live if vMix has another item to play or restarts the sequence. YouTube’s encoder guide says, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” In vMix’s documented YouTube Live Stream Now workflow, finishing the stream in vMix also automatically ends it on YouTube. Choose the right vMix playback option
| Option | Best fit | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| PlayList | A short set of vMix inputs already loaded | Plays inputs back-to-back on a constant loop. |
| List input | A longer sequence, especially when loading every video at once would use too many system resources | Plays videos back-to-back, can loop, and can randomize playback. It does not require loading every video at once. |
These are continuous-playback options, not fixed-time broadcast scheduling. vMix says it does not support time-of-day scheduling for 24/7 television programming; its PlayList and List options are basic alternatives when videos do not need to start at specific times. vMix: Scheduling
Set up a repeating sequence in vMix
Use PlayList for a small set of loaded inputs
- Load the videos you want to broadcast as vMix inputs.
- Open the vMix PlayList and add the inputs in the order you want them to play.
- Enable the PlayList’s constant-loop behavior, then start playback.
- Start or continue your YouTube stream from vMix. When one input ends, the next should play; when the sequence reaches its end, the playlist repeats.
Use List for a larger video sequence
- Add a List input and include the video files in the sequence you want.
- Set the List to play back-to-back and enable looping. Use randomize only if you want the order to vary.
- Start the List input and keep vMix streaming to YouTube.
vMix’s documentation supports these playback behaviors but does not specify a single click-by-click path that applies to every installed version. Control names and layout can vary, so check the help for your version if a setting is not where expected. vMix: Scheduling

Keep the YouTube encoder connection live
In YouTube Live Control Room, use the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in your vMix streaming configuration. YouTube describes the stream key as identifying where the encoder sends its feed and allowing YouTube to accept it. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your stream. YouTube: Encoder streaming · YouTube: Set up your stream
YouTube’s stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop options that can be enabled. Check their state in Live Control Room for your account and workflow; do not assume those settings change what vMix does when you finish a broadcast. For the documented vMix Live Stream Now flow, only finish the stream in vMix when you mean to end it on YouTube as well. YouTube: Set up your stream · vMix: Streaming to YouTube Live Stream Now

Common problems and fixes
- The stream ends at the end of the clip: Check whether the playback source has another item queued or looping. If the vMix stream itself was finished, restart the broadcast and configure PlayList or List playback before going live again.
- The playlist reaches the last item and stops: Enable constant looping in PlayList, or looping in the List input. Confirm the sequence contains the intended videos.
- YouTube goes offline when you finish in vMix: This matches the documented Live Stream Now behavior. Keep vMix streaming when you only want to change or restart video playback; finish the stream only when ending the YouTube broadcast.
- YouTube does not accept the encoder feed: Verify that vMix is using the correct YouTube Live server URL and current stream key in Live Control Room. Do not expose the key publicly.
- A long sequence strains the computer: Consider using a List input rather than loading all videos as separate inputs. vMix notes that loading every video at once can consume system resources.
- You need shows to start at set clock times: PlayList and List provide continuous playback, not time-of-day programming. vMix says it does not support time-of-day scheduling for 24/7 television programming.
