Talk Studio should not be expected to keep broadcasting after your computer goes to sleep. Because the service runs in a browser, keep the computer awake, powered, and connected for the entire broadcast. You can let the display turn off separately, but prevent system sleep for the power state you are using.
What happens when your computer sleeps?
Talk Studio is a browser-based streaming service. Its live session relies on the computer and browser remaining available; Streamlabs’ published guidance does not say that Talk Studio continues sending a broadcast after the computer enters system sleep. Treat sleep as a likely interruption, not a way to leave a Talk Studio stream running unattended.

Turning off the display is different from putting the computer to sleep. You can configure the screen to switch off while keeping the computer awake. Keep the device powered and connected, and test your settings before relying on them for an important broadcast.
Keep a Windows 11 computer awake
- Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.
- Find the sleep timeout and set the plugged-in value so the computer will not sleep during the planned broadcast. If you will stream on battery, check and adjust the battery value too.
- Choose a display timeout independently if you want the screen to turn off while the computer remains awake.
- If you use a laptop, check its lid-close behavior. Many laptops sleep when the lid is closed; keep it open or change the relevant power setting if your device offers that option.
Windows labels and available choices can vary by device. Verify that the setting applies to the power state you will actually use.

Keep a Mac awake
- Open System Settings > Lock Screen and review the “Turn display off” settings for the power state you will use.
- When the Mac is connected to power, check System Settings > Battery for Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off, and enable it if you want the display to turn off without the computer sleeping.
- Keep the Mac connected to power during a long broadcast and confirm it stays awake with the display off before going live.
Apple’s setting applies to use on a power adapter; do not assume the same behavior while running on battery.
Check upload speed and connection stability
Streamlabs recommends Ethernet where practical and publishes these upload figures for Talk Studio. They are Streamlabs’ stated requirements and recommendations, not independent measurements.

Streamlabs also states a minimum upload speed of 5 Mbps. If the connection is unreliable, use Ethernet where possible and avoid relying on a weak or fluctuating Wi-Fi connection.

End the broadcast deliberately
When you are ready to stop, use Talk Studio’s End Stream button. Streamlabs Support’s Talk Studio Getting Started guide says: “If you do not press the End Stream button, your stream will not go offline.” That instruction explains how to end a broadcast; it is not a promise that the stream will survive computer sleep.

Common problems and fixes
- The broadcast stops when the screen goes dark: Check whether the computer slept as well as whether the display turned off. Adjust the sleep timeout separately from the display timeout.
- The laptop sleeps when you close it: Check lid-close behavior or leave the lid open during the stream.
- The computer sleeps despite being plugged in: Confirm you changed the plugged-in sleep setting, not only the battery setting. On a Mac, review the power-adapter sleep option as well.
- The stream becomes unstable or drops: Check that the connection is stable and compare upload capacity with Streamlabs’ published guidance above; use Ethernet if practical.
- You want the broadcast to stop: End it with the Talk Studio End Stream control instead of assuming sleep will close it cleanly.
