Each needs a different fix. Identify the moving part before cleaning, tightening or replacing anything.
Identify what is slipping
Watch the mount while the car is parked. If the base moves with the phone, troubleshoot how it attaches to the dashboard, glass or vent. If the base stays put but the phone drops, focus on the phone, case, magnetic ring or plate, and mount compatibility.

- Adhesive base: the pad is peeling or sliding on the dashboard.
- Suction cup: the cup loses its seal against glass or another smooth surface.
- Vent clip: the clip shifts, loosens or moves with the vent blade.
- Magnetic head: the mount stays in place, but the phone slips away from it.
Stop an adhesive base from lifting
Prepare a suitable surface
Dust, oil, debris, a curved or unsuitable surface, and direct sun can undermine an adhesive mount. Choose a flat spot that is compatible with the mount and clean it according to the mount maker’s instructions. If both the mount maker and the vehicle’s surface-care guidance allow it, use an alcohol wipe, then let the area dry completely.

Remove the adhesive’s protective film, position the base, and press firmly as the instructions specify. For its dashboard holder, Cygnett advises pressing the adhesive firmly for one minute and recommends avoiding direct sunlight where possible. The Aerpro APMSMG1 manual says to wait 4–5 hours before using that model’s adhesive base. That wait is specific to the APMSMG1; follow the cure or waiting instructions for your own mount rather than treating one product’s timing as universal.

If an adhesive base keeps coming loose, check whether the dashboard material and shape suit that mount before trying again. The cited instructions do not establish superglue, sanding a dashboard or adding stronger tape as safe, universal fixes.
Keep a suction cup sealed
Check the surface, cup and locking lever
A suction cup needs a clean, smooth, flat surface and a clean pad. Dust, oil, moisture, residue, texture or a lever that is not fully locked can interfere with its hold. Remove the mount before cleaning; do not try to adjust it while driving.

Follow the mount maker’s cleaning directions
For its X16 mount, MAGIC JOHN recommends wiping the mounting area with an alcohol wipe and letting it dry, rinsing the silicone suction pad and air-drying it, then locking the vacuum switch on a clean, flat surface. It says smooth hard plastic or flat glass works best for that product and does not recommend textured leather. These are X16-specific instructions, not a guarantee that every suction cup will work on every surface.

Match the clip to the vent blade
Vent clips are not a universal fit. The Aerpro APMSMG1 hook-style clip is designed for flat air-vent blades. Its manual says to tighten the fixing plate against the hook, make sure the clip is firmly fixed, and periodically check its tightness. If the clip does not match the vent geometry or the blades flex under the mount, choose a mount style that suits the vehicle instead of forcing the clip into place.

Keep the phone attached to the magnetic head
If the mount’s base or clip stays fixed while the phone falls, re-sticking the base will not address the failure. Check that the phone, case and any magnetic ring or plate are compatible with the particular mount, and that the magnetic component is correctly positioned and secure.
The APMSMG1 manual says that mount is designed for MagSafe-compatible iPhones and cases, including iPhone 12 and later models as described in its manual. That is a product-specific compatibility statement, not a list of phones that work with all magnetic mounts. Check the manual for your mount and the case or accessory maker’s guidance before relying on a magnetic connection.

Choose a replacement only if the failed part cannot be corrected
After diagnosing the failure, replace only the part that is unsuitable or damaged. A replacement adhesive pad makes sense if the mount itself is sound and the dashboard surface is compatible. If the surface or vent does not suit the current mounting method, look for a mount designed for that surface or vent geometry. A magnetic case or ring is relevant only if it matches the mount’s system. Compare compatibility, mounting method, surface or vent fit, any required installation wait, phone-and-case compatibility, and whether the position leaves the driver’s view clear.

The Aerpro manual says, “Do not install the holder where it will obstruct the drivers view.” It also says, “Do not operate phone and holder while driving.” Pull over safely before adjusting the mount or phone. The same manual cautions users to keep the magnet away from medical devices and not to store a magnetic credit card in the phone case against the mount; these are cautions for that product. Mounting rules can vary by location.
