How do I keep my LEGO display from getting dusty?

The cited LEGO listing gives dimensions of over 7.5 in. (19 cm) high, 15.5 in. (39 cm) wide, and 5.5 in. (14 cm) deep. Compare those figures with your diorama’s footprint and tallest feature; check internal dimensions rather than assuming the outside measurements describe usable space.
What to check before buying a case
- Fit: Measure height, width, depth, and protruding scenery.
- Closure: Choose a cover that encloses the model rather than leaving large gaps for dust.
- Access: Make sure the build can pass through the opening without catching or requiring risky disassembly.
- Stability: The base should support the model without forcing it against the cover.
- Placement: Keep the display away from direct sunlight and heat sources. LEGO warns that prolonged exposure can make bricks brittle or discolored over time; see its storage guidance.
A clear acrylic cabinet is one category to consider for a larger diorama. Choose by fit and enclosure rather than assuming a particular product is suitable.

How do you dust LEGO without knocking pieces off?
For ordinary loose dust, use a clean, very soft artist’s brush and work gently in a stable, well-lit place. Support the base, guide dust away from details, and brush only areas that feel secure. This is a cautious application of conservation guidance for plastics and delicate objects, not an official LEGO method for dusting an assembled diorama.
- Set the model on a stable surface with good lighting. Support its base so it cannot tip or flex.
- Check for loose, cracked, or unsupported pieces before brushing.
- Use a clean, very soft brush. Apply only light strokes and avoid pushing into small scenery, minifigures, or other delicate details.
- Stop if pieces move or you encounter a sensitive decal, sticker, or applied detail.
The Canadian Conservation Institute says that careful dry brushing or vacuuming is the best approach for cleaning plastics under dry conditions. Its advice concerns plastics generally, not testing on LEGO dioramas; read Caring for plastics and rubbers.

Why not start with a cloth or compressed air?
Rubbing a dusty surface with a cloth can drag particles across it, so a soft dry brush is the more cautious first move. Avoid forceful compressed air around small pieces or fine scenery: it can dislodge them. The National Park Service warns that forced air can blow off loose or fragile pieces in its guidance on dusting delicate objects.

When a low-suction vacuum may help
On a stable model with dust stubbornly lodged in crevices, a low-suction vacuum nearby may help draw dust away while a soft brush guides it toward the nozzle. Keep the nozzle off the build and do not vacuum near unsupported pieces. Museum guidance discusses protective screens and reduced suction for fragile objects; these are safeguards for delicate items, not a routine requirement for every LEGO display. The Library of Congress collection-emergency FAQ recommends a protective screen when vacuuming fragile objects.

Can you clean a LEGO set without taking it apart?
For loose surface dust, careful dry brushing can often be done without disassembling a stable model. That does not mean every assembled build is safe to wipe or wash. A diorama may include stickers, decorations, electronics, inaccessible joints, or fragile assemblies that make moisture or pressure risky. If parts shift, the model is cracked, or a surface has sensitive applied details, stop rather than trying a more aggressive cleaning method.

No specific LEGO recommendation for dusting an assembled diorama is established here. LEGO’s official cleaning advice is for bricks and pieces: it recommends hand-cleaning with water no hotter than 104°F / 40°C and a soft cloth or sponge, and warns that higher temperatures may affect brick quality. It also says not to use a washing machine or dishwasher, or to dry pieces in an oven, microwave, or hair dryer. LEGO separately says electronic or other sensitive pieces containing metal should be cleaned with a cloth moistened with water and a mild detergent without perfume or oil. Do not extend that instruction to spraying or submerging an assembled model. For a valuable or especially fragile diorama, rely on an enclosure for prevention and seek specialist advice before wet or chemical cleaning; the Canadian Conservation Institute advises consulting a conservator when simple methods do not work.
